This really makes me upset...

In February, officials in the Bush/Cheney Administration proposed removing gray wolves in the Northern Rockies from the Endangered Species List… and turning over management of wolves to Idaho and Wyoming -- two states more concerned with eliminating wolves than managing them.

Wolves were eliminated from this area in the last century -- trapped, poisoned, hunted and harassed. Their re-introduction to Yellowstone National Park and Central Idaho in the mid-1990s was a major conservation accomplishment.

Now that achievement is at risk as officials in Idaho and Wyoming gear up to kill hundreds of wolves.

Lawmakers and anti-wolf extremists in Idaho and Wyoming have already announced plans to kill hundreds of wolves, putting the gray wolf’s future in the American West at risk.

More than 111,000 Defenders supporters have already taken action. Please help us reach our 200,000 signature goal by May 9th.

Please take a couple of minutes out of your day to view this video and respond by sending your comment to our federal officials. America's wolves need your help, badly. We have until May 9th to help make a difference and protect them from endangerment. 115,094 actions have been taken, but not nearly enough to reach our goal of 200,000 signatures. Please don't give up. If we make an effort we can prove to the administration that we are serious about protecting our wildlife. We do have a voice and we can change things.

Why are wolves important?

We have made such a tremendous conservation effort to bring wolves back and now the government is willing to reverse all of our efforts. Not only wasting our time and effort, but also wasting our money as well. These wolves will end up right back on the list if we allow this to happen. Is it really worth it? I don't think so. What about you?

Please send this on to everyone you know. We have such a short time to make a difference!

Sorry guys, unfortunately I don't have time to introduce myself right now. All I can say is that I'm new to the forum and pleased that I was invited to join. =) My name is Tee La and I look forward to coming back as soon as I can. Thank you for your time.

Are you sure this is true?
Since I know Whyoming loves their wolves.
They are trying to help!
I don't know about Idaho though,
I'm sure they love wolves also.

Sadly,
I don't think there are enough wolves out there in Northern America to be taken off of the indangered species list.

I don't know about Whyoming, I mean I'm sure everywhere there are bigots out there who want to exterminate some certain kind of animals. I did see some interviews with governor of Idaho, who supported exterminating wolfs due to their overpopulation or something.
I find that hard to believe.
Wolfs were on the brink of extinction.
Their numbers might be more that of what the "public" had intended or wanted, but I really doubt they are overpopulated.

We need to be more concerened about the overpopulated elk and deer of this nation due to the extermination of top predators like wolfs.
In my neighborhood there is a huge deer problem. Too many deer, road kill at least two per day... There was talk of "taking them out" by shooting them...so killing them...just cuz there is too many. People get upset they are always in their yards eating their plants..eating on anything. So People rallyed together to get the city to bring someone in to exterminate the deer. crying
The reason their population is out of wak here in Sa, Tx is because we exterminated the coyotes because they were "dangerous" and the bobcats... so now the deer are over populated.
And what do we do...we just kill em cus their is too many - which really doesn't solve anything ...

Taking out top predator like wolfs can cause lot's of damage to an ecosystem. The prey they feed on and keep their population numbers in check will grow exponentially and cause endangerment to certain plants and grasses...and great just what we need. Less grass and less plants that help clear up our air..

Anyhow I'm rambeling now..but..
I came accross this site which mentiones Alaska's controversial program of shooting wolfs from planes....
gonk Check it out

My aunts neighborhood is having the same issue with dear Catz. They actually have allowed bow hunters into the neigborhood (not extremely populated) to thin the deer out. I am better with this because at least hunters eat what they kill and the deer is not wasted.

I couldn't find verification for some of the details you posted about (specificially in Wyoming, where they never even originally met guidlines) So if you could post some more info on the actions taking place I would appreciate it (please don't use information directly from the Defenders of Wildlife page unless they have sources posted).

I did find
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17687161/

Which is a problem for a lot of endangered animals and not just wolves.
I have signed the petition and forwarded to some other people I know, even if I am not clear on all the details something is clearly wrong and wolves need all the chance they can get to recover in this country.

Alot of deer is still wasted. There are too many deer that "need" to be killed...it's not all going ot be put to good use - unless we start to eat deer like everyday from now on....

Being wastefull sill outwieghs what we actually put to good use.
