Ah, the joys of adulthood. One could wander the countryside on their own time, do things as they saw fit, when they saw fit, without having to get permission or check in anywhere.
Well, assuming that they weren't mated. Then a bunch of that freedom went back out the window, obviously, but THAT was a whole other ballgame. And as far as Antony was concerned, hardly something to worry about, particularly at his age.
He was a firm believer of taking advantage of opportunity; now that he was grown, he'd taken advantage of the opportunity to put some distance between himself and his parents' fueds, see the world a bit, meet new Soqs...
Not that that didn't have it's drawbacks. As he walked along, the stallion grimmaced slightly, remembering the mare who'd said she was interested in "his kind"...meaning kalonas. Fun stuff, alright.
Or not.

He had thought being older would solve most of his problems. It hadn't and it had created a few new ones. One being the damn curly mane and tail he'd ended up with. There was no way to keep it out of his face and no way to keep everything and anything from getting tangled in his tail. So far the only advantage to being bigger was he didn't have to go everywhere with his brother anymore.
Freedom.
Or at least close to it. You were never free when you had your mind reminding you of things but for the moment he could ignore that. Turning his head into the breeze he grinned as the wind managed to get his hair out of his face for more than a few moments. It wasn't perfect but it did a damn good job for now.
That direction it was then. Into the wind and hopefully away from family for now.

One advantage of having shorter hair: It didn't really get in your face much. Then again, Antony was not one of those fortunately shorthaired individuals; his long forelock never ceased to be problematic in the way it constantly flopped about in his face. Granted, his father had one almost indentical to it and HE never had problems, so it had to be a matter of getting the hang of it.
And in the mean time, there was a LOT of head tossing. However, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
As the wind whirled through, Tony's hair once again broke free of the loose tuck behind his ear, causing the stallion to stop in his roaming and vigorously toss his head. As he did so, a glint of color caught his eye; dark blue against the green of the grass...and then his grin widened.
It couldn't be...could it? Well, so much for boredom!
"Dodger, when the hell did you grow all those curls??"

He shook his head slightly hoping to toss the curls where they'd get even further of his face but failed in the task. He'd curse whichever of his parents had this in their line forever at this rate.
He almost missed the sound, ears swiveling before his head, and he looked at the other stallion. "To ... Tony?" Well that made sense. If he was bigger then his friend would be too right? Obviously it was right since here he was and he was just as big.
"I'd like ta know that so i can hurt whoever thought'd be a good idea"

Even across the distance that seperated them, Dodger's surliness was unmistakable; oddly enough, it was that surlieness that caused Antony to start chuckling. Ah, but it was nice to be able to just TALK again!
"In the flesh! Although I'm hopeing there was really no question, for I've always prided myself on being unique!" Grinning, he trotted over to his friend, pale eyes bright with enthusiasm. As he approached, he made a show of examining the curly hair of the shorter stallion, appropriately somber; but then he was stepping back with an even wider grin. "I dunno, the floofy look kinda suits you. No one ought to be able to accuse your head of being too small, or too unbalanced!"
As though that were something to worry about!

"I think outta my whole family i'm the least likely to have ta worry about bein unbalanced in the head." The rest of his family was nuts, cept for Mama but she didn't count cause she was Mama.
"Figures ya'd get to be bigger than me." Tony had said something about his mama being from a weird breed so maybe that gave him extra height. He was about as big as his Dah so Tony had to be over the average.
"Wouldn't wish floofy on anyone. It's trouble no matter where i go." Maybe he'd wish it on his brother but that would be too much. Even Wylie didn't deserve this. Plus he'd probably get fed up and hurt himself getting it tangled on something.

"Perhaps. Then again, you've never met MY mother, Dodger, or you'd know what true unbalance was." And that was putting it mildly. Idly, Antony wondered if his father had finally managed to elude Izusa; last he'd heard, Guilian had finally made a break for it and the possessive kalona was NOT amused. Well, Tony had confidence in his father, at any rate; he was sure that things would work out.
Shakng off the famililian thoughts, he gave his friend a grin, drawing himself up to further emphasize the height difference. "Well, I guess I got a few nice genes from the Kalona side, although I have to admit that being taller than everyone else makes it hard to hide. But for a non-kalona-blood, you're not THAT short...and at least you've got your hair. All things considered, it's not that bad; at least you don't have this."
With that, he tossed his head again, the forelock in question once again flipping to the side. "Trust me, your curls can't be NEARLY as bothersome."

"I think after what ya told me i'd rather not meet her." He didn't think she'd like him much and he'd rather stay in once piece. If Tony said she was off balance then he'd take his word for it and keep clear.
"Course i ain't sort. Dah's tall so i got it from him." Remy was bigger than Nuka and both he and Wylie so he had to be pretty big for a Stallion. "Damn good thing ta get from him i'd say too."
He eyed Tony's hair and had to admit that the forelock did seem more troublesome than his own. At least he could see around the curls pretty well. With that hanging in his face he'd go nuts. "Ya got me there. That's gotta be hell ta deal with"

"Probably smart. Hell, I don't even like dealing with her when she's in a mood, and these days that's more often than not." Such was life as a child on an unbalanced demon, though; it was just one of those things that you had to get used to.
At Dodger's comment about being short, Antony could only grin. "You're a little taller than my dad, maybe...but shorter than me and my brother and MUCH shorter than Ariston. Granted, I've never met any other stallions, so my perspective is likely skewed. How tall are stallions on average, anyway?" He doubted that kalonas counted in that figure.
The agreement about his hair brought a rueful grin to the stallion's face, along with a temporary shift back from height to hair. "I wound up with the longest hair of the three of us, as it wound up; my dad uses a rose to keep HIS forelock held back, but that didn't work for me, for some reason. As it is, I have to either deal with it or cut it somehow...and for now, dealing with it has worked out passably fine."
As soon as he'd finished speaking, though, Antony paused, the topics of conversation finally sinking in. "Damn, we sound like a pair of mares, don't we?"

"Glad my Mama's not crazy." One of his older sisters was and his own could probably qualify if you looked at it the right way but Mama was perfect.
"I think my Dah's just a bit over average, Nuka's average so a little smaller than me i'd think." That sounded about right. If his Dah was over average and Nuka was average then he was in between. "I have a feeling if this Ariston is another like your mother then he's not a very good judge of height for most of us." He grinned at the other Stallion.
"Mama'd have a cow if i messed with my hair. She says it's perfect and lovely and i think she wishes hers was like this." He wouldn't wish curls on anyone even his brothers.
He paused for a moment to think about what Tony said. "Oh lord ... we do." his face scrunched slightly as he thought about that.

The very idea of Izusa and Ariston being alike was so ludicrous that upon hearing it, all that Antony could do at first was stare at his friend. Although Ariston and Izusa were techincally the same breed, that was about as far as any similarities went...
"Well, Ariston's a full blooded kalona, so I suppose that's probably why he's so big. He's pretty cool, though, and not at all elitist like I've heard many kalonas to be. Actually, he's one of my father's best friends, and Dad is a wind!" Which undoubtably made for a somewhat strange friendship in the eyes of many. But yeah...
Having ascertained the feminine slant of their conversation, though, it seemed as though the moment had come to remedy that. "Is this the part where we're supposed to get all testosteronal and try to kill each other, or can we bypass that and just change the subject?"

"A Wind?" the Kalona's had to be what Tony looked like so what in the world was a Wind? He hadn't herd that before and couldn't think of anything that could be, unless ... "Wait ... does that mean bird wings or something? Tony had said something about siblings that didn't' have the same wings as him.
"I think i'd loose a fight against you so how about we skip that part and just change the subject." Tony was bigger than him and he knew better than to risk that in a fight. Besides if he came home battered and bruised his Mama would go on a head hunt.

Well, there was a new one; not only was Dodger unfamiliar with kalonas, he was also unfamiliar with winds! Then again, it hadn't really come up before...
"Yeah, they're basically Soquili with bird wings. My brother and sister both wound up with the bord wings, while I got kalona wings." Glancing back over his shoulder, Antony rustled his leathery wings for emphasis, then grinned at Dodger. "According to my dad, at least, winds are the most common type of Soquili in existance...which makes me wonder why I've never met more!" And it was true; outside of his family, he only knew regulars!
"And honestly, I'm good with skipping the fight. No sense in promoting stereotypes, right? On to bigger and better things."
Now...what WERE bigger and better things?

"Hm .... never seen one of those before." No one talked about them either so many his parent's hadn't either. He'd doubt it if is Dah hadn't met at least one or two but Mama he could imagine having not met many people.
"Kinda weird to think they're the most common though. You'd think something like me would." Unless his breed was a mutation of the winds. Maybe somewhere along the lines they'd lost the wings for some reason so his breed was born? That seemed a little backwards though.
He laughed slightly at Tony's words. Fighting was borring anyway. "... why do i get the feeling neither of us know what bigger and better things are?" He grinned at his friend and absently tried to toss his curls out of his face.

Antony could only answer Dodger's thought with a shrug. "Dunno. Your type, the wingless kind, are what I've seen the most of; then again, I'm not as well-traveled as my father, so I dunno. Weird to think about, at any rate!"
And yet here they were, talking about it. Strange thing, conversation...
As Dodger so neatly pointed out. Grinning, he gave his friend a scoff. "What, not know? Are we, or are we not, talking about something different? This topic has deep...metaphysical...psychoanalytical...ramifications for society as we now know it, and if that's not bigger and better than hair, I don't know what is!"
Ah, the joys of bullshit. When in doubt, make something up!
