The first day away from the parents and siblings were always the hardest thing for little foals.
But not for Epesi. At least, in her opinion, they got on her nerves. (Rather she got on theirs but she didn't want to admit that)
Mahiri had finally let the little filly run around far from her home, the farthest she's ever been. Her Dad and Momma trusted all three of their youngest children, because if they had the brains of their oldest three...no one would want to mess with them.
So Epesi, who happened to look almost identical to her mother, bounded off into the field near by. A quick turn around one last time, and she took off running. When life gives you lemons, wouldn't you take ahold of that rare fruit and run wild?
A loud, obnxious giggle filled the air as she ran, and the filly filly opened her big mouth for the thousandth time.
"I'm all alooooone! There's no one heeeeere beside meeeeeee! My problems are my oooooooown...." And swayed her body around as she sang.
"Wait, that's not a very good song, because what if Dad was right and I actually meet someone today? What if someone comes and sees me singing? They'd probably think I was good at singing or something because I'm a little filly and you're supposed to be nice to those who are not as special as you..." Epesi blinked. Life was good for those who were like her, of course...that's what Momma said.

((Woah!! Giant!!! xd )) As Shikoba grazed in the quiet open field, he thought about his new life. His two-legger seemed decent enough, and he hadn't really run into anything completely intolerable. And now here he was, in a beautiful grassy field, all to himself.
But right in the middle of that thought, his ears twitched as he heart a faint squealing sound in the distance. He lifted his head, and looked around, but couldn't see anything except tall grass for a long while. He sighed and returned to his grazing.
But there it was again! Lifting his head once more, he scanned the field all around him, trying to find the source of this annoying sound.
And then he spotted it. Over to his right, nearly at the edge of the field, there was a small creature that looked a little like him, but smaller, and without the wings. Not to mention a lot less good-looking.

Totally pre-occupied in herself, the little filly didn't notice the big winged stallion as quickly as he did her. She continued to sway her little body back and forth for a few moments and then stopped.
Light brown eyes caught the sight of his mane before anything else. It was so long, much longer than Dad's or anything else she'd ever seen. Such a funny color, too. And he was huge, much bigger then Dad. Wow, he must be very special to be so...amazing.
Happily, little Epesi bounded over to the large winged stallion with a goofy grin planted on her young face. She looked up at him, and then began to talk.
"Hello mister! Wow, I like your hair, it's long. It's so cool I wish I had hair like that, why don't I have hair like that? My hair is mainly black, but Momma said that's because her hair has black in it and the 'genes' or whatever they're called got passed on to me." And then her attention switched almost automatically to his wings.
"And what are those? They look funny, they look like something I saw on a bird once, but that was only one time and that bird was smaller and it's things that you have were much smaller. Momma told me once that soquili have those things too but I didn't believe her. What are those?"

Shikoba stood in a state of almost shock. This little Soquili definently made a lot of noise. She asked so many questions, that he couldn't even remember most of them.
"Why do you talk so much"
It was the only question he had. He hadn't really intended to answer any of her questions.

His question was short and to the point. Very strange, this guy didn't talk much at ALL! What a wierdo, she thought and laughed out loud. Such silly soquili in this world, no one wanted to have fun anymore...according to Momma, nope...the world was turning more serious then it should be. So it was up to ones like Epesi and her brotheres Toquah'kan and Riley to stand up for themselves and be crazy.
"Why? Well, my Momma said that it was the way she was when she was little, but not as talkative and she also said that talking is good because it helps with your...self esteem or something like that. Don't really know what that means either, but I like the sound of that word. But Dad said that talking isn't bad so why are you asking me why I talk so much? I should be asking you why you don't talk at all? So...why don't you talk very much? Hmm? And what about my questions? You didn't answer my questions mister!"
Epesi giggled, and bounced up and down. He wasn't very much fun, perhaps she could help him!

Shikoba took another step back from the little filly, and continued to stare at her, amazed at how much she spoke.
"I don't talk as much as you, because I don't feel that it is necessary to say everything that comes into my mind."
He felt like pulling his hair out, with all the questions constantly spewing from Epesi's mouth. He slowly began to walk away at a very casual pace, slow enough that Epesi could keep up if she wanted to.
"Well, where are your parents? If they think there's nothing wrong with talking, then why won't you go talk to them? You definently are a strange little thing..."

Epesi blinked. He was truly a strange one indeed! First he was one to not talk much, to which, in her opinion was the stupidest thing in the world...but now he was walking away from her! How rude! Did his Momma or Dad never teach him any manners?
The little filly shook her head in disbelief, but continued to talk her little heart out.
"Well, I don't say everything that comes to mind because I'm thinking something that has nothing to do what I'm saying to you right now, but you have no idea what it is because I'm thinking it and not saying it!" She giggled, what a way to describe that. Very well done!
And now the big stallion was leaving! Seriously, he must not know how to treat a foal, let alone a lady foal! She'd teach him! So the little filly bounded after him at a quicker pace.
"My parents are somewhere else, back there someplace. I wanted to leave for a little bit and my Momma gave me permission! And I talk to them all day long I get bored sometimes! Why can't I talk to someone new? Like you? You're new! And I'm not strange! Not strange at all! You're strange!"
Epesi nodded. Indeed HE was. "Oh, I'm Epesi by the way! Who are you?"

Shikoba rolled his eyes as the filly continued to follow him, and continued to talk. He just kept going, hoping that she might give up.
"Well, that explation was much longer than was necessary. And your parents should have kept you at home, if they knew what a nuisance you would be to others."
Really, children bothered Shikoba quite a bit. They always seemed to be happy about anything, and if they weren't, they were screaming at you to make it better. Not to mention they never stopped talking.

There was no way a filly like Epesi was going to give up a chance to talk to someone. Especially someone like Shikoba. So huge and fancy looking. A great opportunity to...talk.
So she continued to follow.
"I'm not a nui...whatever you said. I'm just a little filly wanting to talk to someone other than her family! I'm not doing you any harm so don't be mean!" Epesi huffed, but still kept a cheery tone to her voice.
"So Mister. You never gave me your name in return. You know, I said my name was Epesi and you never said anything back. It's not polite to not respond. Unless you don't have a name. Which is silly because what kind of parent wouldn't name their child?"

Well, it seemed that his moving on without her wouldn't stop the filly from talking. He sighed, and continued walking.
"My name is Shikoba. And it doesn't matter what kind of parent I had, because I don't know either one of them, and never have. And if you're looking for a willing ear other than your family, then go find one, because obviously I'm not willing to listen. Didn't your parents teach you about social cues? I'm walking away, and that should give you a clue."
He was being downright blunt. He wasn't trying to tell the filly subtley that he didn't want to listen, because when he did that, it didn't work. So now he was being straight to the point. But also, somewhere inside, deep inside, he hoped that the young filly would stay with him, at least for a little while. She was annoying, but she was also a little bit interesting.

His walking caused her continuation of walking as well. Nothing was going to stop her. Save perhaps her Momma or Daddy's calling.
"Shikoba. Funny name!" Epesi giggled loudly, trying it out on her tongue. The filly wasn't very good with names to begin with, but this one was very strange. Well, who was to say her own name was perfect. "You didn't know your parents? What kind of foal doesn't know their parents? I mean, wow! So you grew up by yourself? What about sisters or brothers? Did you have any of those?" The filly frowned, and stared at him with sad little eyes. Poor guy, how could this happen to him?
"You really don't want to listen to me?" She asked, her voice now a lot quieter and softer. "Well, I don't want you to leave me just yet because I was having fun. So I'm not letting you go. I'll follow until I'm done talking!"
Epesi nodded. She had given a good enough reason. She wasn't leaving Shikoba no matter what he did. "What if I just don't talk but just follow you?" Psha, like that would actually happen.

Shikoba was slightly offended at the filly calling his name strange.
"And what's so strange about it? Its definently no better than 'Epesi'. And no, I had no siblings."
Why did this young filly care so much about his life? She didn't know him, and there was no reason for her to ask all this. And as she said that she was having fun, he almost laughed. How in the world could she be enjoying his company? He was being downright rude to her, and trying to get rid of her. But she was saying that she wouldn't leave, even if she stopped talking. In a way, that bothered Shikoba even more. This little creature was annoying him so much, and he didn't understand why she wouldn't listen to him.
"Why do you want to follow me? I'm not going anywhere special. Go home."

"No siblings either?" She blinked. How could that be? Everyone had to have siblings, there was no way someone could be an only child...could there be?!? "Epesi is a funny name, but it's mine so it doesn't bother me!" The little filly said in a matter-of-fact voice. Yes sir! Epesi was just...her name. That was all.
But the girl still followed him, eyes fixed on the movements he made. Truly, Shikoba was destrubed by her presence....but then again, who wasn't? She giggled to herself before contiueing.
"Because I want to talk to you, Mister!" Epesi paused, "Do you really want me to go home? Because if you do..."

Shikoba's ears perked up. It sounded like she was finally considering going home. He stopped and turned around, looking down at the little filly.
"Look, I don't know why you followed me in the first place. And I really don't understand why you continue to follow me when I'm so rude to you."
Looking at the filly, he realized that he didn't say yes or no if he really wanted her to leave. He was about to, but something stopped him from saying it. Instead, he snorted, half at himself and half at Epesi, and turned around, continuing to walk.

The filly blinked. Was he dense or was she dense? Or were they both? Shikoba didn't seem to understand her and Epesi was having just a hard time doing the same back to him.
"I followed you because you were interesting to me!" She giggled, staring him back in the face as he stopped. Epesi had a harder time stopping then he did, so she kinda ran into him. But that didn't matter. He didn't want her here anyways. "I don't care if you were rude to me. Everyone is. I just ignore that part. It's my life and I want to make friends with who I choose! You're a cool mister, funny name Shikoba."
Epesi laughed at herself. That didn't exactly make any sense...but at least she was done explaining herself. Why was the concept of her presence so confusing?
