This year there's a Japanese Language and Culture AP exam, being held next week. Anyone else here taking it? (Obviously this is for high school students.) Nervous?
I have a lot of kanji still to learn . . .

Wow, they have one? Cool. How much is covered on it, do you know? (Curious since I'm a high schooler but taking city college Japanese classes and I lived in Japan for a year.)

I would love to take it, but Japanese is not offered at my high school so I have never had the opportunity to take a real class to qualify for the AP Exam. Good luck to all those taking the exam though, I know how difficult it's going to be since I'll be taking an AP World History exam in two weeks (^^);;
I'm sure you'll do well if you study those kanji hard. Try to use them as often as you can so that you can remember them!

Muku_Muku Wow, they have one? Cool. How much is covered on it, do you know? (Curious since I'm a high schooler but taking city college Japanese classes and I lived in Japan for a year.) I'm not sure how to quantify it . . . we worked all through the "Genki II" textbook this year, which is what they use at Stanford . . . I think it's supposed to be through the first year of college Japanese. There are about 400 kanji required.

Nope, I haven't taken Japanese yet. No high-school classes. =P
The closest I'll take in HS is Sapnish AP next year.
And once in college...watch out. (Woah, Kanji's required for first year college Japanese?)

My school doesn't have that class, even though we have a lot of AP classes. My school is obsessed with Latin so they have 2 Latin AP's. Japanese is used more than Latin xp Besides Latin we have Spanish, French, German and Italian.

AP Japanese is a new course, which was first administered this year. I will be taking it next year as a conclusion to my Nihongo Gakkou I take outside of school, because the teacher doesn't want me to take the JLPT that the others will eventually take (they're a lot younger than I am).
I've heard it's pretty easy from a friend (but he's Japanese like I am), but others said it was really difficult. The AP Language tests are notorious for being very very difficult for people, and 5 years are recommended of study. If anyone is familiar with the IB program, Japanese B HL's exam has about the same amount language skill tested I've heard. You do not need to take an AP class to take the test, though.
But if anyone has taken AP exams before, expect similar difficulty. It will not be as difficult as AP English Literature and Composition, but you will be tested at the level of college Japanese.
