For the third time Emily Lucinda found herself treading slowly into the greenhouse. This time, tucked safely under her arm sat a notebook. She had yet to meet this “Edwin” fellow (Whom during her first few days was called Deadwind by the young girl) and as a result, she still hadn’t a clue where she was to do the planting that she was told she would be doing upon being hired. However, this didn’t damper her mood any.

She hummed a chipper tune as she skipped into the familiar room and made her way to one of the plants that had intrigued her during Dala’s tour. She had made up the idea to take notes on the currently existing specimens in the room for later reference, rather then sit there and do nothing hoping something would happen.

Pushing a lock of hair behind her ear, she took a seat on the ground and opened the spiral notepad. Soon she began scribbling observations on the sapling.

"What are you doing?" piped up a curious voice belonging to one tulipa puchella specimen. A sweet smile was upon the teen's face and it made her eyes light up like pools of dark rose water. Her green dress was smoothed but it wrinkled on its own despite the girls insisting hands. "Are you new here? What's your name? Clearly this girl was full of questions and it was only the manners her mother impressed upon her that kept them from spewing forth.

Kitten, oblivious to the fact that someone had entered, was busy scribbling away at her new assignments. There were plans to be made and things to be researched. A blueprint of the Darwin Wing was spread before her with numerous scribbles and words scratched out; clearly the woman just couldn't decide what she wanted to do. She was really going to need some help soon.

Emily squeaked at the voice that shattered her concentration. When she saw the owner of the voice she was delighted to see it was yet another one of those unique children she had met before. Her eyes sparkled with joy almost instantly. “I’m taking notes.” She chirped her response before standing up, leaving the notebook abandoned on the floor. “Why yes, I am new here. My names Emily!” The girl stuck out her tongue in a childish and playful manner before offering out her hand.

“What’s your name?” She piped out her question. “Why that’s a very pretty dress.” She added with a smile.

Seveda's eyes slipped to the abandoned journal and she lifted her brows before looking back to this so called 'Emily' with a wide grin. "I'm not used to not being 'the new one'," Seveda confessed with a shrug that brushed her shoulders against the looping twists of her soft pink/purple hair.

At the sight of Emily's tongue being shown to her the teen's expression became perplexed. Kitten didn't allow her to watch TV and Kitten had never done such an action, so she knew not how to react. "Why did you do that? Is there something on your tongue that you wish to be removed?"

The girl was oblivious to the questions, and you couldn't really blame her, especially given the confused look in her eyes.

Kitten lifted her head at the murmurred sound of voices and she furrowed her brow. Was that child talking to her plants again? The whole ordeal had started of cute, but it was growing tiresome. Hopefully when Seveda began helping Kitten with the animals in the Darwin Wing she'd stop talking to inanimate objects and start talking to living things. Not that plants were technically alive, Kitten just hoped that more than a leaf would benefit from her girl's sweet voice.

“Huh- oh?” Emily instantly flushed at the girls question. Her hand went to the back of her head as she scratched it in a nervous manner. “I- well- no I—“ Not finding any way to explain the action, and the girls response, she moved onto the statement made before the question.

“Not used to being the new one?” Ah, did that explain why the girl didn’t understand when someone stuck their tongue out? Was she the newest…child?

"Kitten, my mama, is the newest observer. Actually, she's a researcher now. She should be around here somewhere..." the girl said absently, her voice trailing off and a wistful look blanking her face.

As if knowing she was being spoken about, Kitten turned the corner and came face-to-face with the girl named Emily and her darling Vale. "Oh, uhm, hello," Kitten managed, not having been expecting to see a person conversing with Seveda. "You're not a plant." Genius. Pure. Genius.

“Oh! Newest researcher?” As the question escaped her lips, the woman in question appeared in eye sight. Emily smiled warmly. “No, I don’t think I am.” She giggled looking at her arms, and then her legs.

“Last I checked, I didn’t have roots.” She winked at the other girl before another giggle left her lips. Mentally she wanted to smack herself for seeming so childish, but ahh- what was done was done. What could she do? “I’m Emily."

Kitten had noticed that the girl was acting rather...immature, but she didn't think it a negative aspect unless it was a negative impact. As far as Kitten could tell the woman was just trying to be cute with Seveda and Seveda no doubt thought it was quite a great deal of fun. Seveda enjoyed anything out of the ordinary, idle conversation. Kitten was a wondeful mother but she wasn't the best for gossip and fun.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Emily. May I introduce Seveda, if she hasn't already introduced herself, and myself, Kitten. If you need any help with anything by all means please don't hesitate to ask, I'd be more than pleased to help you out. Might I ask what it is you're doing back here though?" Seveda paled slightly at Kitten's speech. Yes, she had forgotten to introduce herself. "Yea, I'm Seveda..." she'd chime in with a bashful smile.

Seveda? Seveda… OH! Dala! “Seveda? You know Nhadala, right? I met her just the other day and se told me about you!” With that Emily dragged her eyes to Kitten. “And you as well.” She smiled warmly, her hands clasping together in front of her.

“I’m here because I’m the newest greenhouse helper. Matter of fact, Dala told me I should seek you out for help. You see, I don’t know where I will be working with the seeds. She suggested you might know.”
PostPosted: Tue May 01, 2007 7:10 pm

"Nhadala spoke of me?" the Vale asked with an excited tone, seeming to visibly wriggle with happiness at the thought of her good friend mentioning her. People didn't go around mentioning people unless they liked them; that or the person wanted to cause others harm and Nhadala definitally wasn't the type of person to do that. Kitten didn't much seem to react to the news that people mentioned her, she had been recently promoted so she was used to people whispering about her as she passed.

"A greenhouse keeper? I believe Edwin's in charge of them," she started before wrinkling her nose and looking about the greenhouse curiously. Seeds? Kitten hadn't ever heard of that, but it made sense. Someone had to plant all these greenhouse babies and Edwin surely didn't have enough arms. "I'm afraid I don't know Miss Emily, I never did that so I'm afraid I'm a bit uneducated on the matter. I could find out if you'd like?" she offered with a warm smile.

“Yes she did.” Emily giggled, cocking her head to the side as she watched the teen before her bubble with energy.

It wasn’t a second later that she had turned her attention back to Kitten though. “Ah, yes. Edwin. I’ve been looking for him, but he seems to be elusive.” She confessed with a shrug. She knew she had a job to do, and she knew she needed to get it done. But when there wasn’t the boss to be found, what was a girl to do?

“Are you sure you aren’t too busy?” Emily asked in reference to the others offers. She thought back to the bitchy woman- Shouko?- she had run into earlier with Dala and shivered. She seemed amazingly busy, and she wasn’t sure all the other researchers were that busy or not. She mentally winced at the thought that the woman before her could even possibly be more busy then the living-horror-movie girl.

Busy?

Kitten looked over her shoulder in the direction of the table she'd left, thinking about all the things that had probably piled up in the short amount of time she'd been away. Yes, Kitten was very busy, but she didn't want the woman to know that. It was the researcher's job to help others and help others she would. "Of course I'm not too busy. Please, allow me to find him. Enjoy Seveda's company during my absence. If you enjoy romance novels she's the perfect person to talk to," Kitten said with a smile and a lifted hand to wave as she moved off to locate this elusive Edwin.

Seveda blinked and turned her head to look at Emily as she'd momentarily let her mind slip and begun to imagine about the things she'd be doing that night, such as starting that new book of hers. "Hmm? What did I do?" she inquired, smiling at Emily obliviously.

”Oh that’s such a relief!” Emily breathed out as she watched the other woman leave, calling out a “Thank you!”

Left once more with the tulip girl, Emily smiled. "Romance huh? Who’s your favorite writer? What’s your favorite book?” Personally, she was more into action romances, simple mush wasn’t enough for her. But even a little Nora Roberts was nice at times.

Maybe she could kidnap a book or too from the girl for home reading if she had anything that sounded interesting enough.

At the question the girl paused, putting a finger to her lips as she pondered to herself before shrugging and shaking her head, "I lke anything worth reading I suppose." A finger was pulled into her mouth and she began to chew lightly upon the nail of her index finger. Seveda wasn't really happy with the answer personally, but she thought it was the best at the moment.

As she thought and chewed she suddenly felt like she could hear Kitten scolding her about chewing on her nails. Quickly her hands both flew to the front of her gown and she bundled the green cloth into clenching fists. "I suppose maybe Mercedes Lackey. I really love anything written by her. Oh! I really, really love Tamora Pierce as well. They both write so wonderfully and their stories are exciting. I don't think I have a favorite book though, there's just too many to pick from."

Anything that was worth reading seemed like a fair enough response for Emily, but the girl had gone on to explain further. She hadn’t heard of the authors the girl mentioned, but then again she wasn’t one big on romance novels so this came as no surprise to the girl. Instead she nodded thoughtfully, making a note to at least look them up.

Personally she was more into Orson Scott Card, finding Ender’s Game to be the best read she had had in years. And his parallel novel Ender’s Shadow had caused her to form the deep drive to take part in the science field. Though it wasn’t biology she was working in, she found there was still a unique trait from the section of science she had chosen.

By the place she was now employed at, she’d venture to say a much more interesting trait then she would have ever guessed. She smiled at the girl in front of her before taking a seat on the ground where she had originally been, before patting the ground next to her; asking the girl to join her on the ground.

Idly she wondered if this girl would get the romance story she had read a, seemingly, great amount of. Or if she would be as amazing at scooping facts as some of the characters from her own favorite books. It wasn’t something she was entirely sure either would know about, even when it happened, but for now she contented herself with pulling out her notebook and brushing the pencil gently across the paper. It wasn’t long before the line turned into another, and then eventually another, as Emily found herself sketching out the flower girl.
