Alright, Lost is a show with a white men, white woman, a fat white man, some black men, some black woman, French, Australian, American, European, Iraqi, Korean people, even some other Asians, that are not main characters.
Now, why is it that they have so many races, shapes, looks and sizes, yet they have no homosexual people?
I want mature responses to this thread.
They have diversity, but they don't have one single gay or lesbian main character. I think it would be more realistic and more interesting to have at least one homosexual character.
DISCUSS Diversity on Lost Why there aren't any homosexuals Having someone gay on Lost Homophobia Homosexuality Gay/Lesbian Pairs of characters.
Please do not get out of hand or explicit with the last one. Thank you.

Well, I don't think a homosexual character would fit in the show. They tend to be of necessity a main character and stereotypically humorous. The show's nature would be affected if the straight characters spent entire episodes looking over their shoulders because the 'gay one' wanted to do something or other to them. Plus, if you've got on homosexual, you need two so I just don't think the plot calls for one. I may be biased because I'm absolutley opposed to homosexuality but it would change the direction of the show alot.
Also, Homophobic is an insanely stupid word. Homo meaning 'same' and phobia 'irrational fear of', Homophobia would be the irrational fear of things being the same.

That would not work at all. I think it'd be pretty stupid. Pointless, worthless, gross.

I just think that people aren't ready for a gay main character in a drama.
There are a hell of a lot of people out there who don't like others who are gay or lesbian or bisexual or transgender.
I think it would be fantastic, but what can you do, you know?

... I knowww we're supposed to be mature here, but comeon. Sawyer so has the hots for Jin. D:
**er-hem** Anyway. I'm just not sure what they'd do with a gay character.
It's kind of like... sexual orientation isn't something that is as obvious as ethnicity, especially since a lot of gays are closeted because they are fearful of being hated and, well, they're on an island with no real law enforcement, so if someone just happens to hate gay people enough to want to beat them up so nobody catches the gay or something, they're pretty much screwed.
So they would need to have a very specific need for the character to be gay, that would contribute to the plot or at least to be an important flashback detail that greatly affects the way they interact with the other lostaways and deal with island difficulties. Otherwise it's a bit of a pointless detail to bring up, it would be kind of awkward, and there are lots of viewers who would be put off by it.

Speaking of which, Homosexuality can't really be compared with race because, well, its not a race. You don't hear "oh, yeah, that guy's from Japan, he's Japaneese, she's a Russian from Russia... oh him? He's a gay, he's from Gayville, land of the gays!" So, really if you think about it like that, the show isn't cutting anyone or anything out.

Just they have a whole cast of diverse characters that it would be interesting to have a homosexual.
I think that it would be funny to see someone like Sawyer maybe want to beat up on the gay guy, saying that he keeps rubbing up against him. Though it is just Sawyer getting very self-conscious around the gay man. He'd probably be one to die in like season one and he could have definitely hooked up with Boone. rofl

When i first read the topic i could imagine sawyer, he would be the one most bothered by 'the gay guy.' and i also agree with how i think he would have been the character to die in season 1, but im not sure on the whole hooking up with boone thing..

Diversity on Lost:
Yup they have plenty of nationalities but only a few people speaking foreign languages... I think that lacks a lot more diversity than not having gay characters. How about more subtitles! And they ask WHY so many people can't read in this day and age?
P.S. Subtitles CAN'T give you a headache! Just don't sit so close to the TV xp
Why there aren't any homosexuals:
Three reasons:
1) Ratings. It would cause a lot of contraversy. 2) LOST would be an 15-18 rating (not kidding) if two guys got it on. 3) The strong Christian over-tones. Also Sayid's middle-eastern and you get executed for being a homosexual in the middle east (not a lie) plus it's possible Sayid is Muslim/Sikh.
Having someone gay on Lost:
Hmmm... Jin and Saywer you say...? Anyway, realistically, nobody from the main cast of characters is gay. You can't just make them gay. Like you can't just force to people to be a couple with no sexual tension or chemistry between them... *cough*Desmond&Penny*cough* (so okay you can but viewers will be disappointed!)
Homophobia:
Ya it sucks but it exists. I think not letting children under 15 see a show with a homosexual couple who are intimate (e.g. touching, kissing) like any other couple is stupid but there you go...
Homosexuality:
It exists. It always has and always will. Like gravity.
Gay/Lesbian Pairs of characters:
(See my "Crack Pairings!" thread in this subforum!)

i heard rumors that they were hinting that boone was gay. in the nikki/paulo flashback, shannon mentions boone's "boyfriend", but knowing shannon, it was probably sarcasm. still, you never know.

Thinking about it, I probably wouldn't watch the show if there were gay people in it and I know ALOT of people who would do the same. Lost would become so contraversial that it would take away from the plot line and in the end only gay people and those who radically support homosexuality would be able to enjoy the show.

The way I look at it is, although only Boone has been hinted at as being gay, the majority of humans are bi-curious (and I'd argue myself that all humans are inherently bisexual, even if they deny attraction to the opposite or same sex), so I'm sure many characters have had at least one rendezvous with someone of the same sex. ;D
