Compassion does not necessarily denote constant giving, you know. You can be compassionate towards people without giving them the shirt off your back. In fact, most things I've read ( like
this) describe compassion as a sublime state of mind, and don't mention the giving aspect at all.
Sure, giving can be considered compassionate, but that's not always the case. Sometimes the most compassionate thing you can do for a person is tell them no, and then hope they get the point that they need to do some things on their own in order to grow as a person.
Just tell them politely you won't do that, explain why if you have to (without raising your voice or being nasty), and continue to foster good will towards them while they attempt to get-er-done themselves.
