I found this in a book somewhere and made myself memorize it, because it resonated with me for some reason. It's meant for dancing about a MayPole with a large group, but since I will be celebrating Beltane alone I thought I would put it up here:

Round and round the Wheel doth turn!
Higher and higher the Balefires burn
Dancer hath a promise, Weaver hath a gift
Pass and pass and claim a kiss!

Maiden, Maiden, Flowered Bride
Offer up your Lady's pride
With your lover in the Greenwood bide
Merry 'til the morningtide

Round and round the Wheel doth turn!
Higher and higher the Balefires burn
Dancer hath a promise, Weaver hath a gift
Pass and pass and claim a kiss!

John's in the barley, John's in the rye
Stag's in the Hawthorne, raise him up high
Raise him up high and the fires burn bright
Merry in the Green 'til the dawn's first light

Round and round the Wheel doth turn!
Higher and higher the Balefires burn
Dancer hath a promise, Weaver hath a gift
Pass and pass and claim a kiss!

'Tis the night to ring about in the May
Dance the old dance in the merry old way
Flesh to flesh and heart to heart
Merry you meet and merry you part!

Round and round the Wheel doth turn!
Higher and higher the Balefires burn
Pass and pass and catch Her eye
Help the Lady raise the Greenman high!

It is still fun to chant and run in circles even when you are alone. I will be having fun tonight.

I did a rather short Beltane ritual this morning, but I think I'll do more tonight, myself; being a oslitary poses a few challenges, but I wouldn't change it either way. ^^

That chant looks so very familiar... eek

What book did you get it from, Twilight?
The part,
"Stag's in the Hawthorne, raise him up high
Raise him up high and the fires burn bright
Merry in the Green 'til the dawn's first light " looks so very familiar to me.

I want to do it outside...my apartment is so small, thus the reason for such a crummy ritual on my part. I left olives and milk out, however.

I have a tendency to forget libations... sweatdrop

The only part of doing it at night that obthers me is because it's more of a day ritual, since it's mostly in celebration of the God returning to power, and consummating his love with the Goddess...

I'll do it, either way; less people to stare at me...

I don't remember the book I got it from, but I'll search through my library and tell you in a while. 3nodding I'm heading off to the park to do my ritual in a while, I don't mind celebrating alone, but it's so much fun to dance and sing with others. ^^

To Rebel_Dynasty, the book I found it in is called 'Sherwood Forest' by Lisa Croll DiDio. It's actually a story about Robin Hood, one that hits home very deeply, for Maid Marian and her followers are actually Pagan in the book. I know little about the author, save that she is also Pagan. ^^

Gah and I didn't know there was a topic on chants, I'll repost this one there. ^^;

Interesting; I think I'll have to look that book up. It would be nice to have some fantasy on Pagans as well. ^^

I'm not sure why it looked familiar to me, though; in that fact, I'm lost... sweatdrop

Maybe a Wiccan author had a similar chant...

I should check one of my books...

Thanks.

Absolutely no problem and I definitely recommend the book, the only thing I will warn you about is that this book brought me to tears during the middle of a class. sweatdrop I shouldn't have been reading anyway, but I looked sorta silly besides... ^^; Other than that, it's a very good book, as well as it's sequel 'Standing Stones'.

Dually (sp?) noted. I'll refrain from reading it in a public place, lol.

Standing Stones, huh? It sounds like they're talking about Stonehenge. ^^
