It was only a few weeks later that Nalikai's greatest fea-er, wish...came true.
"Nalikai! Hey! I need your help!" Kieran called from the kitchen, where he was with Marani, their only daughter, making dinner for the rest of the family that had grown so quickly. "Okay, just put that into the bowl over there, Mara, and oh no-! The potatoes!!" Kieran ran back to the vegetables that were now boiling in a pot on the stove. "I forgot!" He quickly drained the water and pulled them out, moving to grab another bowl nearby the one his red haired daughter had. "Nalikaiii!" He called out of the room again, sighing and grabbing some sauce out of the fridge.
Shinya had been excited to get home and enjoy the lovely dinner that his Dad, Kieran, had cooked for him, but now...the poor boy just wanted to go home and sleep, and not have to look at anyone again that night. Slipping inside carefully, trying not to sob too loudly, he peeked into the kitchen, where he saw his dad and Marani making their dinner. It smelled wonderful, even though he was sniffling from crying so much.

Nalikai trotted into the room and raised an eyebrow at Kieran, the faintest of smiles on his face, "Yes, Kier-Kier?" He asked brightly, grinning at the nickname he simply refused to give up. It was too cute and it made Kieran mad...which only made it better.
"You know, you don't have to make a big dinner," He pointed out, reaching around to help out, "Small meals are better sometimes..." He gave a cheerful wink to his mate before looking over to where Marani wa--had been.
"Where'd she go?"
------------------------------------------
Marani was only a few feet away, but successfully hidden out of sight--and right behind her younger brother. "Shinnnyaaa~" She murmured softly, only a few inches away from her pink brother, "Is everything alright? Did smeone hurt you? Are you tired?" She tilted her head to the side, curious.
She hoped nothing was especially wrong with her brother, but odds were she was only making things worse. Popping up without warning right behind the shy boy was definitely not one of the smartest things to do. She had needed to get there quickly though, so this had been the best solution.

"Don't call me that. And I thought we should have a big dinner tonight, that's all! I mean, we always have small dinners, and i feel bad sometimes, since everyone else gets big lovely dinners for their families. I dont want my family to be the only one who doesn't do that, you know?" Kieran explained, pouting a little. "Sorry if I'm only causing trouble and usuing up our food supplies." He mumbled, setting the table accordingly, and hoping that sooner or later their sons would come home, so Marani and them didn't have to eat alone. That had happened before.
"Yeah, good question. She disappeared." Kieran's eyes darted around, the blue numa 'hmm'ing in confusion.
"Oh!" he squeaked, jumping back and hitting the wall a little harded than he had thought. "H-hi sis." He looked at the ground, embarassed for coming home covered in dirt and tears. "I'm...tired, yes." He answered her hesitantly, making it obvious that that wasn't the whole truth. "Nothing...really big happened...." The pink numa picked at some brown dirt that matted his pelt, lower lip quivering.

Nalikai stuck out his tongue playfully. His mate's first words went in one ear and out the other--no attention was paid toward it. He blinked in surprise and shrugged, "There are always "big dinners" at our home," He pointed out casually, a smile flickering over his face, "But that's because our house is just too full. Eight of us, as of last count; and that doesn't icluding Wyan and the two others." He sighed and ran a paw though his hair.
Sometimes that place was just too filled up with people.
"No, no," He assured the other male, waving a paw, "It's not like our resources will vanish, everything is quite fine." Yellow-green eyes watched the blue male set the table, his thoughts though...were elsewhere.
-----------------------
Marani shook her head, bending down to wrap her arms around her body and look at Shinya more closely. "Aww, Shin, you don't need to lie to me." She assured him, smiling gently, "I'm your sister, after all, and your only one at that!" She blinked and reached out to gently, rub at a bit of dirt.
A mischieviously look took her face. Even when Shinya was so upset, Marani couldn't help but tease a bit, "Aw, looks like someone had a little fun, eh?" She chuckled soflty, winking at her pink brother.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you didn't do anything wrong. Are you willing to talk about it?" Marani wasn't going to force anything from him. He was too kind and shy of a creature for that.

Kieran knew how many were at Nalikai's other home. And he agreed. Too many. The blue numa finished setting the table, his blue eyes looking over at his mate. "Are you sure? I feel bad. Do I even cook things the kids like? Marani's always present, but she never eats much. And when Shinya and Dawei are here, neither of them eat much either." The male sighed, putting a paw to his head. "Sorry, Nalikai, this is a stupid complaint."
"Um...w-well...." Shinya stuttered, rubbing his grey eyes free of tears. Marani was such a kind older sister. She always listened to him, even if all he had to talk about was petty problems. Dawei would just get bored with stupid stuff like that. Shinya decided it was nice to have an older sister to turn to. "Don't tell Dad or Daddy, okay...? It's embarassing..." the pink numa blushed and waited for her to swear to secrecy.

Nalikai reached over and ruffled the blue male's hair, "Shush, shush, there's nothing wrong with what you do. You can't expect children to act in any other way then how they act now. Marani doesn't eat much because she's like me. While I don't know about Shinya and Dawei--" He glanced about as if to search for them, "I'd say they just don't like family dinners enough that they'd rather steal snacks in-between meals than eat normally with the rest of us." Humph. He'd have to fix that soon or else it'd develop into something troublesome.
------------------------------------
Marani blinked, crimson eyes filled with curiosity. "Uh-huh," She replied, holding out a paw, "I promise, as always, Shin." She answered softly, with a faint smile. Shinya could be so cute sometimes, even when he cried.
"Besides," Her voice had an air of conspiracy about it, "When do I tell them anything?" A wink and a lopsided grin graced her features as she settled back to hear what had Shin in such a twist.

"Ah, okay." Kieran smiled weakly, putting more food on the table. Maybe Nalikai would eat a lot more than he usually did, to make his mate feel a little better about himself. Sighing, the blue numa shook his head absently. That was wishful thinking. "As long as I don't eat this alone, I'll be fine, I think." He laughed despite himself. Kieran thought he was so dumb, since he felt like crying.
Shinya took her paw almost instantly, knowing she wasn't lying. Sniffling, he nodded, stepping closer to her and snuggling against her. Hopefully she wouldn't mind he was covered in dirt. "See...I was...I was chased by a creature of some kind...and I fell in the mud...I was so scared they were going to hurt me." He whimpered, hiding his face in her soft fur.

Nalikai sighed and wrapped his arms around his mate's shoulders, pulling him close, "You always worry too much, you know that, right?" He murmured, looking down at the blue male, "They're fine. They are males after all. Didn't you want your independence enough that you didn't join your family for dinner?"
He nibbled on one his mate's ear-fins and let him go, sitting down at his place at the table, looking down at the meal Kieran had prepared, "Now," He purred, putting his head on his closed paws, "You know that if the children don't show up, we can spend the evening doing other things." His black and red tail curled slightly at the tip and he watched the blue male carefully, hoping this was the way to cheer the other male up.
-----------------------------------
Marani wrapped her arms around her younger brother, knowing he needed some form of comfort. She listened with her eyes half-lidded, mulling over it. "Oh? Do you have any idea who that creature could be?" I'll have to make sure he pays for that... She halted the vicious smile that threatened to spill onto her lips. Oh, she would take care of that. No one hurt her brother.
"It's okay Shin, you got away, right? There's nothing to worry about now." She purred softly, holding him close. She was hungry, but that could wait until Shin felt better.

Once the duty of setting the table with all the food was done, Kieran sat down at his designated seat, his face hot from the nips he received from his mate. Unfortunately, as Kieran went to serve himself, the blue numa's face was stained an even brighter red at Nalikai's innuendo with 'other things'.
"W-well, I guess we could..." Kieran looked at his paws. It had been awhile since the mates had done anything of the sort, due to the children running rampant and staying up late. "I think that would be nice, actually." Blue eyes met yellow-green eyes with a silent consent. Sure, it didn't sound bad at all if they could.
---
"I-I'm not entirely sure what it was, actually..." Shinya hung his head when he pulled back a little from his sister's comforting hold. "It was very big, and moved really fast...I just don't know what it could of been. Sorry." He gulped and shook his head to rid the tears welling up in his dull grey eyes.
"But you're right...I did get away.." He went back into cuddling with her, smiling softly at how cordial and kind the crimson haired girl was to him. He didn't know what he would do without her. "Thank you, sister." Shinya giggled and let her go, smiling brighter. "Do you want to go join daddy and father at the dinner table with me?" The grey-haired numa's tail swayed softly, watching his sister for an answer.

Nalikai grinned slowly and watched his mate with half-lidded eyes. "That's good to hear...Kier-kier." How could he resist calling the blue male his hated nick-name? It was just so much fun to see his reaction to it!
He glanced about, wondering if any of the children were going to show up at all. He wouldn't really mind if they didn't, the time he spent alone with Kieran was just as good as when he was with the whole family--but it'd be nice to talk with them consistenetly.
.....Especially when he knew that two of them were were in fact in the house.
--------------------------------
Marani smiled and patted her brother on the head, "It's okay, Shinya. No harm done." She assured him, giving him a cheerful smile, "No problem, Shinya." She grinned innocently, "I'm sure everything'll be fine." She glanced back at the table and shrugged her shoulders, "Sure, if you want to. I probably won't eat much though and father won't be very happy about it." She sighed, "I can't help it if I'm like daddy enough that food isn't something I'm particularly interested in."

Kieran coughed at Nalikai, frowning darkly. "I thought we talked about how I feel when you call me that...nickname." A wry snort and the blue male rested his head on the table, staring distantly at the food he worked so hard to make. Sigh....he didn't care anymore if the children appeared or not. He really just wanted to go sleep somewhere. Maybe with Nalikai. ..That sounded nice.
"I'm sure if you just even sat there, you'd make father happy. He gets depressed really easily, so...maybe by eating just a tiiiiny bit, we can make him happy again, okay?" Shinya smiled brightly, wagging his tail as he led his elder sister into the kitchen, where both of his parents sat. "Hi father, hi daddy!" The pink male tried to look as happy as possible for the sake of his parents. He didn't want to look like he fell in the mud and was upset because of it. That would make them unhappy!
Kieran looked up, blinking as his daughter and youngest son entered the room. "O-oh, hello, you two." His melancholy face turned into a desparate smile. He really was very happy to see them. "I'm glad...you could join us."
