Brayden and Caliga entered the darkness of the cave, using the faint light that eminated from Caliga's rings upon her body for light, as the two gathered their bearings and wits about them.

"Hm... so this is the final step before the Elite Four..." Brayden murmured. For one, he was very on edge at the moment. It was hard not to be, considering the circumstances. He hoped that the Elite Four had no way of knowing who had entered the caverns, but, considering the guards stationed at the entrance, he didn't want to push his luck.

"We'll only be here temporarily to train a bit, but that doesn't make it any less daunting," Brayden murmured quietly.

A few days later found Brayden still wandering the tunnels of Victory Road. He had managed to mark his path thus far, to avoid getting lost, but that didn't alleviate his fears at all of getting turned around in the twisting tunnels of the caves.

Caliga provided companionship and a willing ear when Brayden talked, as the two made their way onward. Thankfully they hadn't run into any trouble, but Brayde kept his guard up. He figured it was pretty much a given, considering his proximity to the Elite Four. He made sure not to stray too far into the caves. He definitely didn't want to challenge them just yet.

Brayden shuddered at the thought, there was no way he'd stand a chance. Hence his decision to train here for a bit.

Brayden agreed, so it seemed their plans were set. But that still left one question.

"Why do you call me boss, anyway?" Brayden asked the Gardevoir in her Pokeball, knowing she could hear him.

'Well,' came the response. 'Those people you're always fighting. They mention their boss a lot. They seem to respect him more than anything. So I thought you were my boss,' Ariadne replied.

"Uh... I think you might have that a little mixed up," Brayden admitted, trying to find a way to explain things to the Gardevoir.

The chance didn't come, however, as Brayden heard a noise from behind him. This time, it sounded like something was dashing towards him, signaling an attack. Caliga bristled, eyes scanning the darkness about them, searching for the source of the sound.

Brayden sighed in relief. Golbat were fairly easy to handle.

"Alright, Zephyr, this one's yours," Brayden called, releasing the Lucario from his Pokeball. Zephyr took up a defensive stance, ready for orders, as Brayden gave the call.

"Alright, to start off, use a Dark Pulse," Brayden nodded.

Zephyr nodded, concentrating before releasing a blast of Dark energy. The violet orb slammed into the Golbat before it could dive in close, knocking it off balance.

The Golbat shrieked its protest, flapping his wings as he released a blast of wind. The Air cutter shot through the air, crashing into Zephyr.

((-30 Zephyr, 200hp remaining))

"Okay, Zeph, hang in there, a few more hits and we're done," Brayden advised, as the Lucario regained his footing, nodding in agreement. He wasn't close to being done yet, and the Lucario was not going to concede the match.

"Another Dark Pulse," Brayden nodded. Zephyr concentrated once more, releasing another blast of dark energy a short second later, slamming it into the hovering bat before them.

((-75 Golbat, 140hp remaining))

The Golbat was tiring a bit more, but it still hung on stubbornly, diving in to bite at the Lucario, hoping to put its fangs to good use.


((Not very effective x4, -9 Zephyr, 191hp remaining))

Zephyr shook off the jaws easily, using his proximity to his opponent to leap into the air, firing off another Dark Pulse upon Brayden's request, nearly knocking the Golbat from the air.

((-75 Golbat, 65hp remaining))

By this time the Golbat was nearly through. However, it used a Wing Attack, hoping to knock a bit more of the Lucario's health away.

((-35 Zephyr, 156hp remaining))

"Alright, now time to finish it off, use another Dark Pulse," Brayden instructed. The Lucario was only too happy to reply, as he fired off one last blast of energy that was enough to put down the Golbat for good.

"I think I'm actually done here," Brayden murmured a short while later, when he found that he was retracing his steps from earlier. He hadn't found much of interest in the caves, and decided to hightail it out of there before things got dangerous.

"Well, we know we can hold our own against wild Pokemon, gym leaders, and the Teams," Brayden murmured. "Hopefully one day we can hold our own against the Elite Four themelves.

That day wasn't today, however, as Brayden finally exited the caverns, making his way back through the hallways of the guardhouse that led back to Viridian City.
