Rengo had slipped away from his leopardess companion for a little while. His heart was feeling heavy and he just needed to think. It was hard being with another for so much time, though it had it's perks as well. The green leopardess had seemed to do nothing to his heart ache though, his need to see and hear and love his family once again. But he was trying to get past it, this was supposed to be a grand adventure!

He wondered what his mother was doing right now. His sisters? Brother? And his father... oh his family was amazing to him... but he knew he could not continue living in the Kusini lands. He needed this time to explore the world.

He sat on a termite mound, dark body outlined by the sinking sun. His pink eyes were floating over the few, long clouds in the sky. They felt lonely to him.

Lefika had nearly forgotten her love for the great wide open. She let the sun warm her face and her back and took long, stretching strides through the dry grasses.

It had been a long time since she could travel like this. She had long been cooped up looking after the children. Now that they were juveniles, Lefika felt that they were well capable of taking care of themselves... though she worried a bit about the intense rivalry they had developed. She had no idea how her eldest son Ajabu had grown into such a terrible, wretched thing, and she didn't think it was her fault, but she knew in her heart that she couldn't possibly be blameless either.

Still, it was nice to have some time to herself again. She felt her heart soothed by the glow of orange sunlight on the grass and the sparse, gnarled old trees. Then she looked up and saw the boy perched upon the termite mound, just about the age of her own sons. She smiled a bit, and eyed him with curiosity, but she said nothing. Not yet. If he wished to speak to her, he'd speak. Otherwise, she'd simply move on and leave him be. It wasn't her place to bother those who didn't wish to be bothered, and she honestly didn't care either way.

Rengo yawned and tore his gaze from the skies just long enough to spot the adult lioness ahead of him. His tail flickered and he watched her carefully for a moment before smiling slowly. "Hello there." He called over, ears perking. He wondered slightly why she had not said hello first, but some lions were like that. He rose from his spot and shook off, stretching his limbs as he moved down the mound.

"Alright?" He called over, wondering if she was perhaps lost or hurt or something. The fact that he was much younger than her didn't come into his mind, most people were on an equal plane in his mind.

((Forgot to include a pic of Lefika earlier. Here's one now. Sorry. ^_^; ))

Lefika chuckled a little at Rengo's slow smile and his apparent mild anxiety. The lioness remembered a time when she had this effect on virtually everyone she met. Family had softened her, she'd lost a bit of herself. She thought now was as good a time as any to repair it.

Her expression was almost unreadable, perhaps very slightly amused. She returned his greeting with a slight incline of her head--a small bow. "Good afternoon," she said. As he moved, she made no movement herself. She held her ground, solid and still, and she let the young male come to her, if that was indeed what he so intended. Looking him over carefully with silver eyes, inspecting him, trying to figure him out, Lefika murmured, "I am just fine, thank you very much young sir." She made no active effort to introduce herself or inquire anything of her newfound company; she saw no need to.

(no problem, I found it on your web anyways xd )

Rengo winced the slightest bit at her 'cold' nature. Or perhaps not cold, she probably would have walked away or ignored him if that was the case... but something about her speech and stiffness was rather pompous to the young male. He continued forward none the less, Rengo was interested in all characters, be them ruthless killers or bubbly idiots. This female seemed to be leaning toward 'ruthless killer' but he highly doubted that was the case.

Young Sir. So she cared about age, in his mind. "Ah you stopped all of a sudden I thought you might have been confused or.. curious perhaps." A smirk fell onto his maw as his eyes remained on her. After he got close enough he sat again. He liked sitting and he was feeling rather lazy today, he wasn't going to keep himself standing just because she was standing.

His eyes slid off of hers and toward her paws, marveling at the spots. Not quite like the leopardess he was traveling with but they were spots none the less! "My name is Mirengo'Kauta, from the Kusini'Mwezi lands. And you are?" He didn't care if it was rude to ask for someone else's name (though in any other case he would wait until his guest offered it up).

He wasn't very fond of adults who thought like adults. Like they should hold themselves higher than children. Though he was also chiding himself for the fact that he was judging her very much right now. Maybe he should just continue to be as friendly as possible?

Lefika watched Rengo's approach with fixed silver eyes, and she smiled a little half-smile at him, perhaps to ease his mind, perhaps only because he amused her. No matter, he may prove to be good company. The lioness found increasingly with time that she rather preferred the company of youth to the company of her peers.

He spoke again, and she listened intently, and she turned her eyes skyward, appearing to truly ponder the true answer to the statement he had made. Once decided, she lowered her head once more and fixed her eyes upon the juve's own cherry-red orbs. "Curious is more like it, I suppose," she said. "I simply wondered what a young man such as yourself would be doing perched upon a termite hill, all by your lonesome, so late in the day." She lashed her tail briefly and smiled her faint smile once again. It seemed a silly thing to her--a surefire way to get spotted and attacked by larger, stronger creatures within the territory. Then again, Lefika believed rather strongly in keeping a low profile.

As the boy introduced himself, the adult bowed gracefully to him. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Mirengo'Kauta," she said as she rose. As for asking her own name, it didn't phase her one bit. Lefika was not quite so reserved as she seemed. "I am called Lefika."

The question didn't seem to bother him so much... but still he seemed just a bit hesitant and slightly embarrassed. "I was watching the sunset." He said truthfully, then chuckled a little. "It's a good point to see all around as well.. so.." He shrugged lightly.

"And as to why I am alone..." He thought a bit and looked over his shoulder for a moment. His eyes met the adult's again. "Well my companion is resting, I think. Sometimes it is good to have time to yourself." His tail curled around his body, he didn't repeat the question for her. It wasn't 'strange' for adults to be alone.

"Pleasure to meet you Lefika." She did not give a homeland after her name so he could only assume she had no home. "You are a traveler too, then?"

The lioness marked the juvenile's response by turning her gaze to the blazing sunset. Her silver eyes sparkled with the low light, and it was the setting sun, melting into the horizon, which Lefika regarded with the first true smile. She grinned softly at it, the way one would regard an old friend, then, after a few minutes, simply nodded at it and turned back to her companion, expression going plain again. She said simply, "It is indeed a lovely sunset," and left it at that.

When Rengo spoke, Lefika listened intensely. She had always been a good listener for she didn't speak very much. It came from having a very boistrous and outgoing mother. It really could've gone two ways--either she could have become even more boistrous, always competing for attention, or she could fade into the background and be content observing. Lefika had never been much of a fighter unless threatened, so she went with the latter. Therefore, when Rengo spoke, she stared, and her ears were still and fixed on his direction. She missed neither a word nor a facial expression. When he was done, she gave him another little wry smirk and nodded. "I could not agree more. I myself left my sons behind to rest and play between themselves. Hopefully they will not destroy each other." Her eyes dropped then--but just for a second--then they were back on Rengo.

"Yes. I too follow the call of the winds, go wherever my feet take me." She chuckled a bit. "Time was, it was only wherever I then stood that I called home. Those times are gone now." When she said this, she looked... almost sad. But it was hard to tell with her minimal expressiveness, and the look was soon faded and gone.

Rengo smiled as he watched her look at the sunset, though he couldn't quite see the smile on her face he still felt the beautiful sight must have given her some joy. Any lion or creature to look at something so beautiful nature gave out every day and frowned upon it... well rengo thought that they would be a rather cynical creature indeed.

"Sons?" He asked curiously. He did not get to see many others his age since leaving his homelands, which was a pity. He yearned for some age-worthy companionship, even though he wasn't very 'immature' and rather liked intelligent conversation over play. "How old are they, if you don't mind?" Maybe he could meet her sons sometime!

His tail flicked back and forth at a medium pace as her last words past through his hearing. "That is too bad, I think." He wasn't sure. Right now he still called his home the place he was born to... but what if one day that changed? Or what if he traveled long enough to do what this lioness has done?

Lefika felt the last warmth of the setting sun starting to leave her now, and she sighed. Nightfall soon. She thought perhaps she should be heading back to check on her children... but she didn't want to go. Not yet. Being out here on her lonesome had a sort of nostalgic quality to it.

Rengo asked about her sons, and finally Lefika gave Rengo a real smile. Her precious boys... they troubled her, and they worried her sick, but she loved them dearly... even the wicked one. "They are juveniles now... about your age, I would say. Maybe a little younger." She grinned, baring her teeth, and chuckled a bit. "They are a handful though. I swear one of these days, they are going to tear each other apart." She hesitated briefly, then ammended. "Or at least... Ajabu will tear Sepoko apart. Sepoko is not much of a fighter." She shook her head and clucked her tongue then. Oh, Sepoko. She wished dearly that her youngest would stand up for himself more often.

But Rengo's empathy only earned a "Hm" from Lefika, and she turned away again, looking back at the sun with those cooly expressionless eyes. She did not wish to discuss her state any longer.

Rengo's ears flickered backwards slightly. He was aware of the temperature dropping quickly and the night seeping in around him but he still wanted to talk, if only for a little while.

Ah! She must have really loved her children then. His age! And it sounded like... two of them if he was thinking well this night. Ajabu and Sepoko.. shorter names than his own. "Ah... fighting is over rated anyhow.." He said in a moment of not thinking about what he was answering to. She had one son beating up another? "Er well... there is always time for Sepoko to learn to stand up for himself right?" He was feeling really awkward about the comment, he didn't want to get Lefika annoyed or angry or make things feel weird. What did he know? Maybe Sepoko did stand up for himself...

And as the darkness fell, a cool breeze picked up. Lefika herself seemed extra still amongst the sudden motion of the rolling grass and the sparse brush. Her fur rustled in the wind, and her hair now half obscured her silver eyes, but Lefika herself didn't budge an inch; she was like a stone, she would not be moved unless it behooved her to move.

She sat still and let Rengo think and talk and stumble all over himself with his words. She thought nothing of comments or his hasty backtracking--she just let them slide. Honestly, her company was currently the farthest thing from her mind, and she found herself lost within her own thoughts. Some might consider it rude to let their minds wander while their company spoke... but Lefika was not famous for caring what other people thought. Which wasn't to say she didn't care about her company, no... she actually thought Rengo to be a rather nice boy, quite mature for his age. But Lefika's greatest loyalty was to herself alone. But when Rengo suggested that Sepoko might learn to stand up for himself, this caught her ear. She glanced sideways at him and smirked a wry little smirk. "Hmph. If only," she said, then turned her eyes up to the sky and the stars which were just beginning to emerge amidst the afterglow.

This had not been what Rengo had wanted. He sighed and smiled slightly though. At least the lioness was not close minded, right? His tail flicked and his gaze rolled over the grass. He should probably go seek out Nafsi. "I must be going, actually. It was nice meeting you." He said softly, standing and stretching.

As he moved through the grasses of the southlands he glanced back at the female, taking a deep breath. Well he hoped the best for her.
