Lore:

Genie is the English term for the Arabic (jinn). In pre-Islamic Arabian mythology and in Islam, a jinni (also “djinni” or “djini”) is a member of the jinn (or “djinn”), a race of supernatural creatures. The word “jinn” literally means anything which has the connotation of concealment, invisibility, seclusion, and remoteness.

Jinn in pre-Islamic era

Types of jinn include the ghul (“night shade”, which can change shape), the sila (which cannot change shape), the afrit, and “marid”. From information in The Arabian Nights, marid seem to be the strongest form of jinn, followed by afrit, and then the rest of the jinn.

Arabs believed that the jinn were spirits of fire, although sometimes they associated them with succubi (demons in the forms of beautiful women). The feminine form of jinn is “jinniyah” or “jinneyeh”. Jinns can possess people, by entering their body.

Jinn in Islam

The jinn are said to be creatures with free will, made from 'smokeless fire' by God (the literal translation being “subtle fire”, i.e., a fire which does not give itself away through smoke), much in the same way humans were made of clay.

Jinn can transform themselves into humans and can be summoned by humans. In Islam, humans trying to perform black magic call bad Jinn to perform black magic on humans which can only be undertaken by dark Jinn “Ifrit” or “Marid”. In many Islamic countries there are people who perform or supposedly perform black magic (usually for cursing other people, or using jinns to influence a marriage to end in divorce, etc) in exchange for money.

Jinn have the power to transform into other animals and humans, and they are known to prefer the form of a snake. Because they are made of fire, they can appear in any color.

Evil beings from among the jinn are roughly equivalent to the demons of Christian lore. In mythology, jinn have the ability to possess human beings, both in the sense that they persuade humans to perform actions, and in that of the Christian perception of demonic possession.

Interesting Facts:

-The date in the alternate reality is December 5th, 2006, as the news reports indicates it is one year since Flight 424 crashed, and the newspaper Dean looks up indicates the crash happened on December 5th, 2005.

-When Dean wakes up in the alternate reality and calls Sam, there is part of a saved text message visible on his phone which reads which may be to or from Christopher Cooper: Hey Dude…How are you doing man?I’m pretty darn good myself. I've been meaning to sit down and write but I’ve been so damn busy. I’ve been meaning to call too but hey what’s a fella to

Quotes:

Professor: Son? You been drinking?
Dean: Everybody keeps asking me that. But, uh, no.

Dean: (at John's grave): Why? Why is it my job to save these people? Why do I have to be some kind of hero? What about us? Mom's not supposed to live? Sammy's not supposed to get married? Why do we have to sacrifice everything, Dad?

Dean: We don't? Well, we should. You're my brother.
Sam: "You're my brother."
Dean: Yeah!
Sam: You know, that's what you said when you snaked my ATM card, or when you bailed on my graduation, or when you hooked up with Rachel Name.
Dean: Who?
Sam: Uh, my prom date. On prom night.
Dean: Yeah, that does kinda sound like me.

Dean: b***h.
Sam: What are you calling me a b***h for?
Dean: You're supposed to say jerk.
Sam: What?
Dean: {disappointed} Never mind.

Sam: I thought it was supposed to be a fantasy.
Dean: It wasn't. If Mom never died, you and me would've never gone hunting and you and me, you know.
Sam: Yeah. Well, I'm glad we did.

Yah.. we're getting closer to the finale.. and I'm guessing this one will be a lead-in to the last 2.. kinda like last year's when their dad showed up....

I don't think so. I am thinking this episode is mainly satisifying everybody's 'what if's'. But the season finale has been split into two parts so I'm guessing it won't BUT you never know. The show has lots of twists like that.

This is the first episode that truely had me crushed... Because of course, you knew that it wasn't going to last... So I had tears in my eyes... And a few that trickled out...

And I love how it was so Dean-centric.... He was so alone... Not only because Sam there didn't know about the Supernatural, but because he and Dean weren't close like they are with them hunting together...

So of course we knew... how could Dean choose a world like that... Knowing all the things in it - that he and Sam and John hadn't saved all those people... And with he and Sam not so close...

But like Dean said, he could have fixed that - fixed things with him and Sammy (omg! he didn't call him Sammy! *sad*). But all those people who died... And then he going to talk to John... To his grave (HE HAD A GRAVE!!! not like with Sam and Dean cremating him themselves...). And knowing, already, what he had to do... But just feeling how cruel it was... To show him this... To make him take it away from himself... So cruel...

*sigh*

This was actually my fave episode for AGES though...

*hehe* Though... Is it just me, or did it feel like a (really awesome) fanfic? lol. With the AU feel to it...

Yah.. and I read someone's opinion about how it was good for John not to be there... cause his character may have pushed Dean into making a decision not to accept this reality. (John, being the symbol of always doing what is right over what is want)

Dean did call Sam, Sammy, but was questioned by Sam as to why... cause in that reality Dean stopped calling him that when he was younger... I still loved when he was saying goodbye to Sam he still called him Sammy... it was so heartbreaking to see him finally get ready to leave everything he wants... and then for Sam to join him anyway.. I was wondering if that was just part of the Fake!Sam personae or if it is really what Sam would have done in that position.

I feel fake!Sam is how he would have reacted. There is that intrinsic bond in blood... Like when you meet distant relatives... And you automatically bond or side with them because they are blood. And despite the things that went on in their childhoods to pull them apart (ie. Dean stealing Sam's prom date), they're still brothers, and Sam knew who Dean was.

lol it kinda rocked, imo, that Dean was still this sex-loving dude... *haha* Funny wording, I know... But, yeah... Like, he still chased the ladies... Cos I'd wondered to the extent of that... Given Dean actually has all the one-night stands, imo, because he can't settle down in reality.

That thought of John not being there... I assumed it was the whole 'giving his soul to the YED' and hence it wasn't there to place back into Dean's fantasy!reality. But that thought that John would have guided Dean to this choice... I think that's true... Clearly, fantasy!Dean still followed his father's footsteps (John ran a mechanics before Mary's death, right???), hence would have followed him.

But Dean... Hugging his mother... Boy, did it KILL me! cry
