At the moment, we have a magickal world war three going on in our apartment.
There are four of us, who have been living together almost a year. All of us are practitioners, in some way, shape or form.
In January, after we started the new semester, one of our roommates started acting strangely. She was holed up in her room, and when she left it, she was shooting death glares at anyone who crossed her path. She wasn't into magick until this year, so while she owned a deck of tarot cards, they mostly sat around on her desk collecting dust. She only cast as part of our group work, like protections for the apartment. When we started having trouble with some negative spirits a while back, she started keeping her athame under her pillow, and her BOS; secured both magickally and mundanely against anyone reading it. Her spirit guides instructed her that she was the only person to touch it, EVER. For the sake of ease, let's just call her Maz for the moment.
Anyway, Maz shares shares a room with Alice. Around the time Maz started acting strangely, Alice stopped wanting to be in her room. She sensed the changes in our friend, and didn't like them. She said there was a negative aura in the room, and she had trouble sleeping if Maz was home. Luckly (or rather, unluckly), around that time, Maz started staying out all night.
Maz was hanging out with our other roommate, Meg. Meg is my roommate, and we don't particularly get along anymore. We can have pleasant conversations, but for the whole of the first semester, her aura would wake me up in the middle of the night when she came home--either before she put her key in the lock, or when she was walking between the front door and our room.
Around the time Maz started acting strangely, she and Meg suddenly got really close, especially since Spring Break. See, Maz is a medium and very sensitive to the spirits around her. Her house back home has a rather nasty spirit living there, enough that there are certain parts of the house no one will go into alone unless absolutely necessary.
I came up with the hypothosis that maybe a spirit was affecting Maz, and making her act so strangely. Alice agreed, so we tried to do a long-distance cleansing ritual on her, and placed seven quartz crystals around her bed, which she was supposed to sleep on for seven nights straight, but ended up being gone for two of those nights.
I thought it a bit excessive to be casting a spell on someone, even a non-malicious one, without talking to them first, so I tried to just have a conversation with her one evening. If you talk to Maz, she seems fine. If you look at her from across the room, it's another story.
Alice and I have tried renewing the protections on the apartment, casting cleansing spells, everything, but nothing has helped.
A few days ago, we had a thunderstorm. We have a second story apartment that faces a creek. The four of us went out on the balcony to enjoy it, the first time all of us had been in the same "room" for a long time, but still, you could tell we were divided--Meg and Maz on one side, Alice and I on the other.
Normally, I love thunder storms. I'm an Air/fire/water personality, so storms are particularly awesome for me. But I wasn't feeling this one. There was an energy in the air I didn't like.
Later, I talked to Alice, who was really shaken up. She's grounded solidly in Earth, and doesn't like thunderstorms at all, except on the few occasions she uses them for magickal purposes. She said there was some kind of water spirit hiding in the trees around the creek, telling her "Come dance with me...come dance with me...come drown with me..." She was frozen to a spot on the balcony, afraid that if she moved she'd go down to the creek and drown herself.
Two nights ago, we had rainstorm. I was working on homework, and heard Maz and Meg in the living room watching anime. Not willing to give up on the talking point just yet, I went out to join them.
You'd have thought I didn't exist. They wouldn't look at me or talk to me. All conversation stopped when I went into the room.
It freaked me out. I've never felt so uncomfortable around them before. After one episode, I went back into my room. I needed to feel safe, so I climbed in bed with my cards and a few other things.
This is turning into a giant wall of text, so let me just put in the short version of what happened next: that storm was far from the worst I've ever experianced, but I've never felt more threatened by one. I worked with my pendulum, and discovered that they had done something to keep my spirit guardians out of the apartment, and Alice's too. They did something to our barrier and to our tarot cards.
Meg has been dabbling in dragon magick (not using them to power up a spell, but summoning), and summoning other magickal beings that are not necessarily good. We have reason to believe that she and/or Maz summoned the water spirit, knowing what it would do, and have been teaching themselves dark arts. Maz's athame, cards, and BOS are now hidden.
Alice is pissed. All of her spirits were locked out of the house. We tried to find the source of the spell, and ended up purifying one of Meg's belongings and throwing the other in the creek.
It's getting out of hand. I can't calm Alice down, and Meg and Maz won't talk to me or anyone else. The worst part is, I don't have a choice but to leave my familiar in the car of Meg this summer while I'm doing an internship. I don't know what to do. Our spells keep clashing with one another, and we can't get everyone in the same room long enough to even begin to sort all of this out verbally.
Please help!

Yikes. o_o
I'm no expert on magickal combat or whatever, but the fact that M&M somehow evicted your spirit guardians sounds like they did a cleansing/banishing ritual of their own... after yours. So, perhaps instead of this being a war of good (you and Alice) versus evil (Maz and Meg), consider it one of opposing interests. Obviously, that calls to question what the bloody hell Maz and Meg actually want.
Exhaust the mundane - talk to both of them (seperate, then when they're together), and find out what they know about the situation so far (the water spirit, spirit guides being chucked out, divination not working). If they come across as haughty and arrogant, that's a pretty sure sign its their magickal doing; If otherwise, consider the possibility that not everything is as it seems; it could be a wealth of things, from demons to devils to spirits (oh my!) acting on their own accord and trying to make it look like M&M. If it's their own doing, ask them what the frig they want. That'll at least give you a pointer towards what to do next.

I have another topic in this guild about Koori magick, and I think I've discovered what it is. It could have been unintentional Koori magick. If you're all psychic or practice magick, or whatever, and especially if any of you use tarot cards, I think it might be that. Koori magick is when you summon or wake up a nature spirit, in this case, a water spirit. Spirits that are woken up by magick like this like that usually do not want to be woken up, an d will try to do emalicious thinga. Check around the apartment building and see if you can find any rocks or anything with a strage marking or aura, other than your roomates. Try to purify it, and any other object in your house that you can that you use for magick. Hope that helps at all.

I'd have to suggest not trying to banish or purify the source of the spirit if it happens to be an earth spirit. I'd suggest attempting to lull it back to sleep because forcibly trying to get rid of it could make things a lot worse assuming that it is a nature spirit of some kind. If that's what it is, you might look into Shinto and Koori, which has already been mentioned. Or you could just move out. That would seem like the easiest, albeit most separating way to get out of the situation.

Whoops! That's what I meant. I'm just so used to saying banishing instead of lulling back to sleep, just because I don't much deal with nature magick or spirits. Yeah, Obscurus is right. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT try to banish it except as a last resort. But, I disagree with moving out. If it keeps going like this and you move out, they obviously won't help themselves, and may possiblydo what the spirit says and kill themselves. My advice: Find the source of the spirit, lull it back to sleep, and purify everything in your apartment that has to do with magick that you possibly can.

Thanks for the suggestions.
While I know you're not supposed to touch another person's alter, I did get the urge to throw salt on Meg's a while back.
We will be moving out when the lease is up in July, but like I said, I have to leave my familiar with them for a while since I'm doing that internship. *squirm*

*rubs hands together*
Ok, sounds like there is a bit of a mess here. I liked the previous suggestion about exhausting the mundane. That's a great idea first and foremost.
Now, if it turns out that M&M are responsible for this mess, well than they are both spineless. Using magic against your roommates because you have may issues with them? Jeez....
Even though you mentioned one of your roommates was doing dragon magic, I find it unlikely that a dragon would be involved in this for several reasons. If M is practicing summoning, than its likely that demons are involved since most things won't show up if you try to summon them...but demons just might if they are bored enough.
Since this gals are playing hardball, you may have to do the same. Your shields aren't working, so I suggest creating new less friendly ones. Create some shields that can inflict harm and alert you if they are tampered with. That way you can know whats going on and where the attack is coming from.
Try to ask for some aid from fire spirits and/or earth spirits. Both of these can help protect you and Alice, especially against the water spirit (which may or may not be a water spirit).
Since M&M's shielding is blocking your spirit guardians from coming through, you may to have puncture or break it. Ask the fire spirit for help with this. By breaking that shield and watching the reaction of M&M, you can see how involved they are in this.
This are all things I would do in that situation so they may not work for you. I'm gonna look through my information I have on that water spirit because it sounds a little too malicious.
Just hang in there and if need be, leave the apartment for a bit by taking a walk or just hanging with friends.

We managed to take down their shield and get our spirits back. Alice said hers had gone to...ah...tell Meg that they didn't appreciate being locked out. She has been staying at her boyfriend's ever since, and seems content to stay there for the rest of the week. No complaints on that from me, since she's a horrible roommate even without getting magick involved (you know it's bad when someone's aura wakes you up even before they enter the apartment).
Maz is still acting fine if you talk to her, but is completely standoffish when left on her own.
Haven't been able to get everyone home long enough to have a decent conversation, and still not sure how to go about it. I feel weird asking what kind of casting they've been doing, and I know Alice would jump straight into accusations. I'm trying to discourage her from searching their things when they aren't home. It's bad enough that we threw a rather large amethyst point into the creek (though that was my fault and we're planning on retrieving it if we can).
I don't know if Meg was actually summoning dragons, but she's been very interested in creatures that were labeled--"dangerous. Do not attempt," in one of her books. She's also been studying a lot of Aztec and Mayan magick, which I know can be quite messy.
Other than that, things have been pretty normal, though Perry (my familiar, a cat) has been clawing at the back door trying to get out all night. Normally she just looks on with a vague disinterest; she's never tried to get out before, and she keeps looking at the area where Alice saw/heard the spirit thing.
The back door is now closed and locked with the blinds drawn.

Things have calmed down (no more activity) though there is still tension between us. Remove Meg from the equation, the the tension goes down dramatically.

Meg is a bad influence. Try purifying her! [/psychologist] All kidding aside, I think that you should purify her alter and if you want to Maz herself. But of course she might not like that.

I'm so glad I gave up practicing anything but my basic Buddhist rituals here at my University dorm. As I can't burn insence or burn candles, I can't purify or sweep any areas. My presence has been incognito. ninja
But seriously, my idea was going to be have one of them move out. Seemed like the simple option.
