Hello all! Well, I had to do something for English (# Has been removed) Class, so I figured I'd share it with everyone... Considering this is anonymous Internet, I feel safe putting my opinions out into the web. This is gonna come and bite me in the rear end when one of my friend's IRL find it...(Maybe)
Persuasive Essay: Blood And Chocolate
Blood & Chocolate is a present-time set story, focusing on the life of a teenage were-girl trying to deal with being a teenager, and a werewolf. (Please note that there are HUNDREDS of books similar to this one, 90% of which are HORRIBLE do not read these!) Blood and Chocolate is a magnifying glass into one of the many opinions, beliefs, and myths of Werewolf’s, with a teenage spin so that it is appealing to younger readers.
For the sake of my obsession (Wolves, and magic) I will argue with the type of werewolf’s in the book. Werewolves should be cunning, half-human, half-wolf creatures. In this book, they are creatures not entirely wolven, but can change into they’re human ‘form. (As you can see, the Idea of having to change from Human-to-Wolf and vice-versa disgusts me.) However, there is an intermediary stage that is touched upon, (For example: A Human form with fur, and claws, with wild dagger-like teeth.) But the book is oblivious to ‘fan service’ so to speak. (Appealing to the Fan’s while proceeding with the story)
Vivian, a girl of 15, daughter to the widowed ‘Esme’ Past ‘Queen b***h’ of the werewolf pack, is the protagonist of this sometimes sad, sometimes funny, all around wild book. The book focuses on creating the setting of wildness, the feeling of, having an animal inside, that stirs when you read the book. Vivian would be a ‘tomboy’ she has no problem getting into fights; she scares off girls (Not purposely) and messes without fear, the mind of boys. Vivian is a special case of werewolf, she was the daughter to the ‘pack leader’ (Thus, her mother was ‘queen b***h’ Get it? No use of cursing here…) it seems the most prominent problem of Vivian, is her love life, and her restrictions.
In a werewolf pack, it is taboo to date meat-people. (People that are as good as fresh meat. An A.K.A. Normal person) partly because mating between the two is impossible, partly because Werewolves and humans don’t have good history. (A.K.A. Werewolf hunts) Trouble is, Vivian-being the tomboy she is- is against any arranged marriage (Mating) with any one she doesn’t choose. But with 5 werewolf suitors, each of which is possibly insane, Vivian doesn’t feel like picking one of them. So instead, she takes solace being by herself, painting murals on her wall, painting pictures of her real life in art class, and scaring all of her teachers. One day the painting is allowed to enter a contest. It wins, and she see’s her picture on the front paper, she’s thrilled at first, and finds a poem alongside it. A poem apparently written for her, written about werewolves, and the night, and changing skin, perhaps someone was like her... Perhaps someone knew, exactly what her picture illustrated.
Curious as to what meat-person wrote this, Vivian sniffed out the boy (pun intended) and was immediately captured by his charm. Now, Vivian enjoyed making meat-boys go red, so she thought it a fun game to play with this meat-boy, the one that seemed so different from all the rest.
Only to find herself infatuated with the meat-boy, and his meat-world, that seemed to accept her. Feeling alone in her Wolf world and comforted in this meat-world, Vivian couldn’t help but try to keep both. That’s when it all went bad…
Of course I’m not going to ruin the story, that would just be cruel. It’s a very good story with thought put into the werewolves, and experienced poured into the drama.
Werewolves as I said before are a touchy subject to nerds such as myself, and the werewolves in this interesting novel, are ones to be accepted. Firstly, the myths of werewolves, and how they were created are vast and numerous. The reason given unto this story is that the ‘Moon’ and the ‘Great Hunter God’ were lovers. So, they’re blessing upon they’re followers, was to turn them from they’re weak, hairless bodies, into animals of the hunt, and whether they wanted to or not, to transform every full moon.
The visual aids in this book are so very interesting, interesting enough to make your adrenaline rush, and your mouth salivate. Eating, in this book seems almost enough to make you want to go out and find yourself a partner of which you’d love to ‘eat’. I am so serious it’s not funny. The mixed Feeling’s from Vivian’s point of view makes you wonder if she wants to have sex with him, or want to eat him. She describes thinking about biting his fingers off, about wanting to be so close she could bite him, and he’d bite back. Werewolves are Sadists. And yet, I still liked this book, it was a very… Exciting read…
Thought I was done praising the sensory objects? Think again. They describe to you, exactly how it feels to transform into a werewolf. It’s like making you into a sadist!! ‘There was a crunching sound, and a small pain was felt in her back, only to be erased by the sweet release of ecstasy, and her weak form was replaced by that of a strong, lithe animal; a killer!’ God, the sensory and ecstasy they make the reader experience, just by having her run! (It’s not perverted; don’t look at me like that! >.>) in the book, they make to mention an ‘animal’ inside of all ‘homosapiens’ that they can never release, and that it is that animal that the Werewolf in Vivian was attracted to. After reading this book, standing up, stretching- stretching luxuriously to get all the feelings out of my body- I suddenly felt like running, like getting my adrenaline pumping, and I assure you I made a right fool of myself getting my adrenaline pumping. But, the fact that that book made me do such stupid things is a testament to its sense of wildness. The sense of Primal energy, power, and feeling is enough to make you into a fool like me.
I think I’ve got the praise out of my system, so now: I will speak of the ‘religion’ werewolves follow, they follow the religion of the moon, they praise it, they love it, they feel so good they might be on meth when they’re under the moon!(Adding to the primal feeling I might add.) The moon makes a big part of this book. The sections of the book (There are five of them) are categorized by moon celebrations. Ghost Moon, Midsummer Moon, Thunder Moon, Satyr Moon, and Harvest Moon. It seem’s like the moon does indeed have it’s own religion, for the werewolves often have ‘tales’ of the moon, and how things came to be.
Like how the Moon knew that if any Werewolves disobeyed the law set, (that Human’s could not be harmed,) she would shine her silver rays down to earth, in the form of silver for Homosapiens to forge into weapons; in order to kill them. (Because Silver is poison to Werewolves, watch the movies!)
Not only does the Werewolf have a religion, they also have history! They are even said to have ruled over central Europe in old times as revered gods! (Perhaps the author did her history home work…?) They give themselves they’re own terms; ‘loup-garou’ ‘Homolupis’ they even have they’re own laws! Laws dictated like a real wolf pack! As demonstrated by the ‘ordeal’ it is made so that ‘all males of age must fight until only one stands, and he will lead the pack’ Again, it leads to a ‘religion’ because there’s a rite they go through: ‘drink from the moon before the battle!’ of which they drink from a clear bowl of water, which reflects the moon above them.
Werewolves of this world are so different from others. In Harry potter, Werewolves are nothing to be afraid of… ‘Till The full moon, that is. And then horror movies show them to be giant brutes that seem more gorilla-wolf, than human-wolf. I appreciate these werewolves, they have vast power. They can semi-change. They can grow they’re nails into claws. Grow they’re teeth into vicious canines. Twist the bones, and they can chase down a horse. However, they are a lonely type of werewolf, they can’t make more of they’re kind by biting others. They can’t blend in with humans as well as other werewolves. No, it seems like they are isolated. Isolated with only werewolves that are they’re own family, or otherwise werewolves insane by they’re love of carnage, and the hunt.
These werewolves, by they’re own words, are ‘cursed’ to be hated by homosapiens, forever.

Informative, but just as a note, the intermediate stage of transformation you pointed out earlier is called an anthromorphic manifestation.
