discuss. i'll post my opinion later.

I think that as long as the women who are posing don't feel degraded, then pornography is fine. If they are comfortable with it, then I don't see the problem.

I haven't seen very much porn but generally it seems very tacky. The lighting is awful, and everything looks false. It can be degrading to be portrayed in that fake, tacky way, with the large breasts and dyed hair. But this unrealistic portrayal of women isn't just limited to pornography.

well if real sex was actually in porn maybe it wouldnt be so bad... but it is all fake. the boobs. the orgasms. the plot lines. kinda dumb. i think that it makes women tacky in a sort of way but then again there is a demanded respect for the women that do it. after all they are the ones making plenty of money, living the life and making a name for themselves. in the tacky sense, they have settled for less than great, and forever shredded their name. money or a proper name in society? are they a step up from a hooker, or a step down from a real actress?

Depends on the porn. Pretty much everything you'll find if you walk into the average "adult video store" is garbage. Fake women with fake body parts faking enjoying fake orgasms. It's funny at best and repulsive at worst, and I can't believe anyone enjoys it. I'm not interested in just looking at body parts, if I want that, I'll look in my biology textbook. I don't, however, lump all porn into that category; I'm sure it's possible to make a video of women (and/or men) who actually look like they're doing this stuff for fun and not obviously for money.

i think it's pretty bad for both men and women, it shows in-larged body parts that are obviously fake.

well its:
1.) one of the seven deadly sins

2.) makes us women (in the eyes of males) look like we are slaves, and like posing sexually with no clothes is fun for us to do, and that we like it very much. It makes us look like we have no power to what we have to say, and that only are bodies can only say enough. Its just plain stupid!

Yes, it very much depends on the porn. Porn can rnage from individual expression to fake, mass-produced exploitative garbage to get money for greedy people. Some people like showing off, aome find posing to be a good source of income, some are just desperate. There are many different types of porn. Most porn is produced for men, mostly heterosexual men, most "lesbian" porn is produced for men, much porn is violent/degrading to women, and promotes degrading/raping/dominating women, much does not focus on women's pleasure. Then again, some is just the opposite of vile: pornography can be art, can portray loving intimacy, can show people actually having fun, etc. etc.

I almost bought Defending Pornography at a discount bookstore the other day, and I really wish I had. On the one hand, pornography may reinfornce negative stereotypes of women, and is probably perpetuating ideas in a more mainstream way via the internet that were supposedly overcome in the nineties (ie, inferiority). On the other, women are being accepted as sexual creatures. Women can talk about orgasms and masturbation to a lot of men without them being disturbed. Through familiarity with sex, women can gain equality with men on a level that, thanks to lack of sex ed in schools, is being seriously threatened, and if pornography will achieve that, so be it.

Plus, women can get off to porn as easily as men if they wanted, even if the porn is 'produced for men'. Sex is sex, lust is lust. And god, have I seen some beautiful porn.

wow. agreed. i didn't really think of the "women being viewed as sexual beings" aspect. but now that i think of it it's totally true. i don't know how many conversations i've had with guys about sex and porn and all that jazz. it's weird though cuz i hardly ever have those conversations with girls. and if i do they're my close friends. girls are more quiet about this kind of stuff.

I think porn is degrading because people who do it cant have any self respect. I mean child porn is illegal but when some poor child is forced into it they have to get serious therapy after their found. i believe no woman would do it willingly and only if it was a last resort.

I disagree. I am sure that there are women out there that volunteered to pose in pornography.

yeah there's a lot of women who don't think it's degrading at all. they think it's empowering to be sexy and to turn men on. i would actually consider posing nude myself when i'm 18.

It's not like the women in porn aren't doing it unwillingly. They need money so most of them really down't care. Most porn I have watched just shows slutty people (both MEN and women) just having sex. I think pornography is just sex. Get over it.

I personally have no desire to watch porn. I generally end up irritated. But as far as degrading women is conserned I think it has to be judge on a film by film level because some (ie. domanatirx films) are completely the opposite of sterotypical porn and depict the female in the power possition. And some of these girls genuinely love their craft, even though it's fake sex. So this is a tough call to make.
