Sitting here, preparing for my presentation I started to think about how I even got involved in this site.

And I thought I'd share my story with ya.
It was back in 2005, the start of the new spring semester and I was taking some jogging classes where I met this young girl about 19yr old or so and one day she began to talk about "Gaia". I was intrigued, and she started to tell me about it, how she could lose hours on the sight, and that it was so much fun. I remeber thinking, it can't possibly be that addicting - to where you lose hours of a day. Well shortly after her mentioning it, we went to the libary together one day and she showed me the sight, sighned me up and gave me some starter clothes.
I remeber thinking, ok...now what.

I didn't really see anybig deal to the sight. I logged on daily to see what I could do on the sight but never stayed on for too long, then in March of 2005 the kiki kitty appeared on gaia, and I fell in love. I was determined to get it. So I asked around about how to get one and for whatever reason no one ever told me I could donate to the sight. So I had no idea where the rare items came from, so I started a quest.
Back then the kiki's where selling for 5k in the market and well being fairly new to the sight I only had about 1k and I thought I was never going to get 5k. Gold making was much slower back then.
I tried drawing for gold as I saw that people would do that, but I got flamed cuz my sample drawing's were on lined paper like this:
and no one wanted to pay 100g for it.
I think I drew one for this girl who was bumping my page...but that's about it.
Then I quickly gave up.
My freind started a guild and I spend most of my time in there.
Just buying commons for my avi, or the cheap things I could afford.
Solinde was the first person ever to donate gold to me, she donated 10k. I was like in heaven. That was the most gold I had ever had. XP
*luffs solinde*
Finally I learned about donatin, and my first donation to gaia was made in December of 2005.
Since then I've donated to get the donation items per month and eventually acquired almost all 2004 items with the help of my brother who seems to be really damn good at exchanging, but when I got it in my head that I wanted to get an OMG mid 2006 I went a bit over board and donated like a bit tooo much two months in a row. That's when I realized I was getting obsessive about pixals and decided to have a charity instead - I belive it was last summer that I started a 1k shop, then one of my accounts in which I had my spare items and letters was banned for recieving illegal items as a donation.
Still trying to get it back - ehh, don't want to go into detail...I was really pissed when this happened.
Anyhow, with the help of some wonderful freind, amazing really, I build up my funds again and started my Flowers for Donation Items shop in Nov. 2006.
Yay!
Anyhow, now I"m broke, and sorta considering selling my OMG to have more funds, anyhow...well maybe this summer I can get back into the exchanging grove. I got perty good at it. ~_^

I started gaia when my best friend showed me the site one day when we were IM-ing back and forth. I was already addicted to Neo so I knew that being addicted to a site was a possibility. I joined and dabbled here and there on the site. Then I found out a few of my other online friend were also on gaia. I usually spent most of my time commenting on their profiles or just surfing around the site. Then I found the ED boards. Heaven. I usually spend a couple hours here and there on gaia. Mostly in the early afternoon or later at night. I consider it my escape from my "job" as mom. My husband has no problem with me spending the time I do online because I don't have a "real job" where I can go out and interact with people. I also still go on neo, but not as much as I used to.

Ha ha, I'm the oldest Pixel character! xd And at kitten22481, Neo! I used to go on that yoooooooonks ago. Wow...
Well I started sometime in 2004. Memories not that good so please forgive me if this is a brief account... But anyways, I started back in the good ol' days, where it took a year or two to make 100 gold and you had to walk through Barton and Gambino to do anything. They've made it to easy to get to places now I think, I liked flicking through the maps to get to places... sad But lets try not to turn this to a "bring back the old gaia" threads shall we?
Anyways, I used to come on sometimes, mainly in the game forums. But I was never really "addicted." Then they invented the market place... That's when it started. I remember when it first came out, I slept round my mates house, and we spent hours playing the stock market (as we used to say, "buy low, sell high!" lol). We got pretty good at it, and eventually we got to a stage where we could buy a letter. We got real lucky and sold it off for like three times we bought it for. Then it just carried on from there. Every so often I had enough to kept one of the letters I bought for myself instead of selling it. That was back when I had gold though.
Unfortunately I got hacked... stare And no I'm not stupid, my friend did it and sold all my good stuff to one of his friends for a fiver. But I didn't find that out till like a year later. I had so much cool stuff too, demonic pendant, demonic pitchfork, that terminator armour thing... I had other good stuff too but that's all I remember. After that I left and didn't go on for like a year or so.
It wasn't till sometime last year that I got back into it. Now I just stick to the forums and RP PM's. And that's more or less my Gaia history! Thank you for listening. 4laugh

Then it died out for me, then I learned about the exchange.

Something similar happen to me. I wasn't hacked, but banned.

One of my friends told me about Gaia about two years ago and I just checked it out. I wasn't all that addicted back then, now I am. I don't think I'd quit for awhile.

I mean the market place, me and my friend used to just call it the stock market as a sort of personal joke thing. Very funny when we spoke about it at school the next day, "Dude, last night I did amazing in the stock market!" Everyone else would just look at us like, what the hell? eek confused

I've only been on Gaia for about 6 months, so I guess I'm still a baby...
My son came home one day, and said I needed to try this place on line. Said I would love it, and it was something we could do together even when I am travelling.
At first, when he was showing me, I thought it would be boring, that there weren't enough choices, so everyone would look the same... blah blah blah....WOW was I off!
He got upset, and said I just wasn't opening my eyes... emo
That night, I spent all night in Gaia.
By morning, I was an addict. mrgreen
I apologized to my son, told him he was right, I hadn't had my eyes open, and then I showed him things he hadn't seen there! cool
I cannot imagine leaving Gaia any time soon. It helps me deal with real life stress, allows me to be who I want to be, and I can hang with my son 1500 miles away! AND I meet GREAT people!!! blaugh
As long as nobody cares I'm chronologically old, I don't care if they are not! I have a myspace acct- I almost never go- I got flamed by local "friends" because my avi was from Starcraft, and I "wasn't acting my age". So to hell with them! I will live my life as I see fit. If I want to never grow old, I will never grow old! And on Gaia, I'm thin!! rofl rofl

This site is very interesting. I would be so creative, share my works and experiences that yes,fantasy style, aside from symbolism. I start to make my own character.

I started Feb. Of some year and fell in love. I learned about donations I think march this year and was addicted too. I then saw what it was doing to my bank account and felt stupid for paying so much for pixles. I still donate just not as much.
