Ho hum. There was something decidedly dull about lolling around during mid-day. Oh, sure, you had to watch out for hyenas and the occasional murderous pack of water buffalo, but really, dodging potentially eat-your-face animals (seriously, buffalo - more dangerous than they looked) had become a bit of a habit; there wasn't a whole lot of excitement in narrowly escaping a run in with a vicious monkey or a deadly swarm of termites! So. Right. A bit dull.
Which is how Nishan found himself lying in the grass at the peak of a slight hill, his back legs hooked up on a stone and his belly stretched up at the air as he snoozed, tail flicking absently here and there. For a rouge lion, the some butter colored male had managed to stay almost ludicrously chunky, given all the walking and general wandering he did. 'Bad metabolism' he told the few animals had asked about it. Really, he just liked to lay around a lot and that, coupled with the fact that he wasn't half bad at catching food when he really needed it, made for a slightly overweight lion.
Nishan wrinkled his nose and huffed, sending little bits of dried grass and dirt up where they caught the breeze and flew off down the hillside. Mmm. The sun was awfully good for sleeping in.

There were others calling her. There was always someone. True, sometimes the voice that cried out, without even realizing someone, somewhere was listening, were quiet, almost silent, but they were always there.
Mwokoti, through her multiple lives, had gotten to the point where she could generally block them out. She felt guilty about it, yes, and she only did so when there was something very important keeping her occupied. Most times, it was that she was already helping someone. Mwokoti could define 'selfless', because the times she had strayed from her 'work' for personal ventures could be counted on one paw.
Her illusionary skills, something all Gods possessed, got use rarely. She was applying them full force now, though, her wings and lantern melding to blend with the scenery, and her yellow, white and black fur now just appearing white and black.
So, the mortal, black and white lioness, slunk over to Nishan and peered down at him casually, lavender eyes sparking. "Hello, are you alright?"

It wasn't often that he had other lions approach him. Usually run ins where happenstance, coincidence - a fluke meeting on the bank of a waterhole or old carcass, more often than not. As such, Nishan wore a somewhat noted look of surprise on his face when he opened his eyes and blinked up at the figure blotting out the sun. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust and for him to get a good look at the lioness' features at which point his brain kicked in and he floundered with surprise, rolling over away from her and onto his belly. He shook himself out, bits of grass flying off his back and out of his mane.
"Yup, 'm just fine," he responded pleasantly enough, curling around himself so he could itch his ear with his back foot. He yawned, blinked a couple of twice and took a look at his surroundings as if he'd forgotten exactly where he was and needed to remind himself. Finally, he looked back at the similarly colored lioness. "Need something?"
By the look and sound of it, the rouge had already made himself out to like like a slightly blunt instrument - definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed by any stretch of the imagination.

Mwokoti was so busy examining him, she hardly caught his question. Was he eating enough? Losing any fur? Were either of his eyes infected? Any scratches? ...No, no. He looked fine. He looked abnormally fat for one of his lifestyle, something she chuckled over. That a boy.
"Hm?" Lavender eyes met his briefly, breaking away as she shook her head. "Oh, no, I was just in passing." It wasn't a lie, she really was just passing by. Small little memories flashed across her mind.
Her giving him to those lionesses. 'His name is Nishan,' she'd told them. 'Please care for him, and please don't speak of me.' Her sons personality, at that time, had been a mystery to her, and if he was the kind to track his long-lost mother down, she didn't want him to have any reason to.
Having always been on the move, finding her at a pace a mortal traveled would've been painfully impossible. "Are you traveling alone?"

Nishan wasn't typically very observant, but it was hard not to notice when some strange lioness was giving you The Eye. Seriously, she was starting to give him the willies, examining him that close. What was she looking for? He squirmed a little uncomfortably, tail flicking back and forth. The male's ears wobbled around a little awkwardly to boot, flicking backward like he was a little uncomfortable in his own skin at the moment. Maybe he had a giant grass stain on his back? A huge streak of dirt in his mane? It wouldn't be the first time.
"Yeah, alone," he said, finally rolling up to his feet with a little grunt of effort. "Was trying to find...-- but I dunno where they're at anymore. I'll find them eventually." He smiled brightly, expression a little blank and not exceptionally intelligent but kind and well intentioned despite that. "Uh, did you need something?" He turned in a slow circle, reacquainting his paws with the ground. "There's some water back there if that's what your looking for; saw it when I came up here."

"I don't need anything," Mwokoti said again, not very concerned over if she scared him shitless or not. She could just put on another appearence the next time she ran into him if he didn't come to like this mortal she was playing as. "Looking for who?"
There was a small pain in her head and stomach, like a warning. Telling her not to forget what she was suppose to be doing in favor of what she wanted to do. But if Nishan was looking for someone, if he felt like he belonged with them... He counted as a lost lion if that was the case.
"I can help you," she offered. "Who are you looking for?"

"Old friends," Nishan mumbled absently, squinting out across the plains, patches of yellow and green that moved in the breeze, shifted under the weight of a few packs of animals - zebra, a throng of gazelle milling under a stand of trees. "Hasana. I used to know her better, when she was just real small." He half laughed. "Thought she was a zebra. She has babies now." He hesitated and looked back at at the strange lioness. "Or she did; it's been a long time. They're not where I left them anymore though, so they must have wandered off while I was away."
He was a little worried about that, just a little. They were probably safe and sound, but it was so hard to tell. He'd wandered off, left his friend and her cubs rolling around in one place and then he'd come back to visit (well, wandered back and surprised himself when he'd realized he was in the area) and they weren't there anymore. It was the uncertainty that bothered him, kind of got under his skin and itched like fleas - and he'd know all about that. Last summer was spent itching and rolling in the dirt.
Nishan looked suddenly back at the lioness, blinking at her. "Who are you anyway?"

Without thinking, she replied in a rush, "Mwokoti.", but that wasn't important. Any other time, she'd have been calm, perhaps really calm. Speaking in monotone, dull eyes, that sort of thing.
At this moment, she was almost giddy. Finally! Finally, something was going right for her. --No! Better than right. Positively great, and the Goddess was estastic. "I know her," she told him, voice level. Her heart was thumping faster than it should be.
"I helped one of her daughters. She's in a pride known as the Unity Walkers with some of her daughters and her mate."

Nishan perked up, ears flicking forward and a stupidly hopeful look washing over his face. "A pride? Unity Walkers, Unity Walkers," he parroted meaningfully, clearly trying to hammer the name into his brain. Remember it, seems important, he told himself stubbornly. Sometimes it seemed like the more he told himself to remember something, the less likely it was to stick. Kind of annoying, that.
"D'you know which way it is?" he asked, turning in a circle as if somewhere in the distance there'd be a big sign 'UNITY WALKERS THIS WAY!' that he might catch sight of if he looked hard enough.
