My bf works in a grocery store.
In the dream, one of the employees sees me, knows that my bf works there and cons me into running the till. I've never worked these tills before and felt I had made a couple of mistakes with codes and such, but the customers didn't seem to care. The couple of times that the boss walked by he didn't seem to notice that I wasn't an employee. Anyway, I was constantly trying to find the "till closed" sign through all this, and when I did I placed it on the belt and walked away.
What does it mean?
I have no real clue.
There may be something I am lacking in my life, possibly fullfillment or a need to be valued, and I have to consider re-evaluating my life, regain control or something along that line.
My bf though thought it was weird and funny. Then commented that his boss is pretty easy going and if it had been a real event would have pretty much reacted the same way.

That's honestly what I got from it. I was leaning more towards the need to be valued bit, but not wanting too much for fear that you'll make a mistake and let someone down. Don't worry! You'll be fine! 3nodding

I've been thinking about it a bit more. I wasn't looking for recognition, nor was I asking for help during this dream, and no one seemed to care that I wasn't an employee.
It was more about getting stuck doing something that I really didn't want to do, but did it anyway until I could find a way out.

I can see that as well. heart You are right...that makes a bit more sense because no one seemed to notice that you weren't an employee...I think I overlooked that myself!!
That sucks getting stuck doing something that you don't want to do. Are you able to get any help with it?

Right now there are only a couple of things that I get suckered into. Acting as my bf's chauffer. He doesn't have a licence, and quite often wants to go places I don't want to, but he needs a vehicle to get there. I usually get something in return though.
or
Due to varrious training sessions that have been taking place, causing some serious staffing shortages, I've had to go to work sick this week. Luckilly, it is probably the same cold that others (staff and residents) in the group home have, but man do I want my bed when I get home.

mm..that stinks. I would help ya if I could. I'll keep you in my thoughts at least. I hope you start feeling better. Unfortunately, the only 'cure' I know of for being sick is rest, and it doesn't sound like you'll be getting any real rest anytime soon. Maybe on your vacation?

Hmm, well I could be wrong, but what I got from the dream was maybe a sense of unfamiliarity. Maybe it represents something in your life that is new and maybe not entirely welcome, such as new guidelines, or a change in the normal way that things are done. Work, like the grocery store, is a familiar place to you, but you are doing something that is not entirely familiar to you. However you have the trust and support of those around you that you will pick up on it just fine. They know you're making mistakes but they only notice your effort, your willingness to try something completely new.

That's funny - I worked in a grocery store for 4 years during high school and college. This was before scanners (or really only the newest, high tech stores had them). For a couple of years, about 2 years ago, i would dream I was back at Ingles, with the same co-workers I had then, but they have these giant new scanner machines, and I'm trying to figure out how to work them during a very busy day. IRL, I was a cashier then a bookkeeper, so I helped train the new people. In the dream, everyone is expectin gme to know what to do. I never explored the dream to figure out what it was trying to tell me, but when I read the title for this thread, I thought of it! So now, I'll probably revisit that grocery store tonight!

heheh I have some cashier experience from small convenience stores, but have never had any interest in working in a department or grocery store bigger than the average size house. Feel they are too inpersonal, repetative and don't give enough time to chat or get to know regular customers.
But if this were a RL event, I would be in the same vote. The till wouldn't be a problem, just a matter of knowing which buttons to press. But learning the codes and running the conveyor belt would be a bit more challenging, until I got use to them.

Is it a sign of working too much when the only thing you dream aout is your job? lol. I dream constantly about running back and forth from the fitting rooms to where the clothes are supposed to be, putting them away. Thats what I do in RL, so it makes sense that I dream about that! It was worse when I started the job because I dreamed of the new job *and* the old job...the old job kept wanting me back and I was working hard at the new job.
The dreams really didn't tell me anything I didn't already know...just made me keep thinking about work! So annoying! lol...thankfully the dreams have kind of subsided with that topic. ^_^

lol
It definatly plays a huge part in our lives, so it will come up in many, many dreams. Our subconscious tends to use those things it is familiar with when trying to get its point across

I think maybe its telling me that either I will be stuck in clothing for the rest of my life, or to STOP APPLYING at stores with clothing! lol ah well...I think they are funny none-the-less.
