MARSH ADVENTURES

This is a private RP between Storei (Eiry) and Aphismet (Rivener)

LOCATION: The Marshes
TIME OF DAY: Dusk
WEATHER: comfortably cool springtime, clear skies.

Rivener made sure all the pictures had been deleted from his camera. He'd already downloaded them all onto Aphismet's computer, and he wanted to make sure that he had enough room to capture whatever would happen in the marshes. Having Eiry along would no doubt be good; ghosts seemed to appear so much more tangibly around him.

"Are you just about ready?" Riv called after his little brother. "I won't take your picture, I promise!" he lied, grinning.

Eiry wasn't so sure on following his brother. Ever after the night time incident he had when he woke up half the household, his brother had been following him around and making statistics on the paranormal activity that happened in and around the house with his presence. Eiry didn't mind the ghosts all that much. He had talked with some, but not for long. But he did mind his brother stalking him like the paparazzi. He even stuck Eiry in one room and left another room empty for a control element, then made notes on the paranormal activity. Now, Riv wanted to take him outside into the marshes where the faint flares of will o wisps would dot the fog over the weeds.

"Brother, I'm not so sure about this..." Eiry admitted again stubbornly as he floated into the opening hallway where Rivener waited.

Rivener frowned over at his brother, taking his eyes off the LCD screen of his camera for that one moment before bringing them back. His lips drew themselves into a tight line of dissaproval. Why did Eiry always have to make such a fuss about things?

"Stop being such a sissy! I'm not asking for the world here, we're just going for an innocent little walk. What's there to be unsure about?" Riv always had to talk Eiry into things, which was both annoying and expected. After all, little brothers on TV did what their big brothers said only after they were threatened, coddled, or tricked into it. Eiry was no different.

And just as a TV big brother, Riv thought of Eiry as just another toy to play with, although it was a toy he cared for and doesn't want to hurt. But still, he expected Eiry to follow him around and do what he said, no matter if it was an unreasonable thing to think.

"Now come on, we have to go before it gets too dark. I read somewhere that dusk is the best time to catch Them in the act." Smiling, making sure he had enough batteries to last a few hours at least, Riv headed for the door.

"I'm not done with my tinkertoys..." Eirdirsceol muttered as an afterthought. He floated near to his brother and looked up at him admiringly as he checked the little monster in his hands. Like all little brothers, Eiry respected his brother as being the eldest and he was always amazed with the things he did.

They passed through the door and they began making their way off the porch and down the steps where one of the ghosts usually hung out. Eiry, who, unlike his brother, could see the ghost as plain as day, waved to the young man as he sat and read a book on the steps. The young man glanced up and waved back. Satisfied, Eiry felt a little more comfortable with going on this pleasure stroll through the marshes.

"How far awre we going to go, brother?"

"As far as we need to," Rivener replied with a mysterious smile. "Ok, now listen," he said, turning to his brother to explain the plan. "We've looked around the house lots and the ghosts there are fun and all, but we've never been out here in the marsh. I see lights and weird things at night from the windows; I thought I saw a person-ghost once, even! So, we're going to try to find them."

He straightened himself up higher to keep an eye on where they were going, bending down to pick up Eiry's wobbly ribbons from getting caught in the root by the Big Tree that he always managed to get caught on when they played outside. It had become habit now, to pick up the ribbons as they passed. "This is all in the interest of science," he reminded the minty Frei. "Just so we can know who's living near our house."

He grinned devilishly. And if I can get some pictures in the process...

Eury didn't flinch as his brother hoisted up his ribbons with a brotherly hand as they passed by the Old Weeping Willow in the backyard and began wandering out in the direction of the marsh. Alright so this is alright, Eiry thought. The ghosts weren't that bad and they were nice to talk to. They told him a lot of things. Perhaps, if they made it somewhere where the trees parted, they could see the sun set. That was Eiry's favorite time of day, dusk. He liked to watch the sunsets and he liked the crisp smell in the air. Glancing at his brother as they floated into the sea-like weeds of the marsh, Eiry piped up, "Brother! One of the ghosts told me that there was a cemetary in the middle of the marshes. It used to be dry land, they said, they did, but then it got soggy wet. Maybe we can go there?"

As soon as they entered the region of the marshes and walked within it, little wisps of light began darting around Eiry's form.

Rivener smiled at his brother widely. "That's a great idea, Eiry! I didn't know there used to be a cemetary here... Do you know how long ago that was?"

Gasping in pleased shock as the lights began dancing around the minty Frei, Riv whipped out his camera and snapped a picture without a flash; he didn't want the flash's burst of light to drown out the little light bulbs that floated around. "What are those? Are they ghosts?" he asked, already prepared to ignore Eiry's pleading to Not Take His Soul.

Eiry gave a shrill wail as his brother took a picture of him and he leaned forad and pushed his brother away from him gently in his typical retaliation, "Brother! You promised you wouldn't take pictures of me! You could steal my soul away! Stop!" Floating away from Rivener, Eiry hunched himself over and crossed his arms over his chest, reluctant
to talk.

Rivener sighed and rolled his eyes as always. "It doesn't steal your soul, Eiry. I didn't take a picture of YOU, I took a picture of the little lights, and you just happened to be there. Since I wasn't aiming at YOU, then you would be safe," Rivener lied, straight-faced, his acting skills at their best.

"Besides, the little lights are still ok, the ones I took the picture of... if I'd stolen their soul, they would have dissapeared, right? Now come on, stop being a pansy and answer my question." He placed his hands on his nonexistant hips, and tilted his head at Eiry, waiting for an answer. Had he had a foot, he would be tapping it.

The minty green raevan frowned, still nervous and frightened from the monster. There was a little part inside of him that wished that his brother would heed his wishes. Then there was another part that didn't quite trust Rivener. Glancing about at the little lights that floated around him, Eiry evaluated their health. They seemed alright. They had been startled a bit by the click and Eiry's panic, but otherwise they were alright.

"...I suppose...But...." The minty raevan concluded that the monster didn't work properly unless the light was used. Eiry paused for a moment and tried to remember the questions imposed upon him, "The cemetary was here from the very beginning...The lights? They're spirit orbs. Not remnants, not actual full people, they are not."

They floated deeper and deeper into the marshes. By now they couldn't see the house anymore because of the foilage and trees. Up ahead, they could start to see what looked like a large clearing.

Rivener nodded happily at getting the answer. "From the very beginning of what, though? Not the beginning of time... perhaps from the start of people living here, though. Wow, that's a long time..." He'd been muttering to himself. "And don't worry, no more pics of you. I'll only picture the ghosts. Tell me when you see one, okay?"

When they emerged into the clearing, Rivener floated ahead and looked around carefully. He grinned. "Is this it? It is, isn't it. Is it?"

Floating over to a stone, Eiry nodded and indicated a sea of leaning pillars and tombstones that were disguised by dry foilage and weeds. They were scattered everywhere, diffused with the land and standing like solitary reminders to what laid beneath the waters. Floating off in a different direction, Eiry began looking at the stones and trying to read the names. At the same time, the same little wisps seemed to get brighter and they moved in and about, orbiting the minty frei's body.

"Yup, this is the graveyard." Then, distracted, the frei waved at the wisps around him and muttered, "What are you talking about, there's nothing bad here. Just dead people."

Rivener had taken out his camera, but even though he wanted badly to take a picture of Eiry with all those little bulbs around him, he would keep his promise. He turned on the flash, and turned it to the surroundings instead, taking pictures of the ancient tombstones, which he would never have noticed if Eiry hadn't shown them to him.

These would be nice pictures... old moss-covered headstones with faded writing, greeneries growing all over them. In such a gloomy surrounding, the stones looked even more somber than they normally would. A few flashes disturbed the evening darkness as Riv turned and took a few pictures... Vaguely he could hear Eiry, and he frowned lightly at the last thing he heard. Rivener was used to hearing his brother answering questions that only he could hear, but this latest one was a little worrisome. The Scorpion Frei turned to face Eiry.

"Erm, what are you talking about? Something bad?"

Eiry had drifted over to another tombstone by then and he was foating down low, kneeling if you would, before a stone so he could try and read the faded inscriptions. "This one is Fletcher's stone, it is. Huh?" Lifting himself up again, the minty raevan began heading towards Rivener.

"The spirit orbs are telling me that there's someone bad around here..." Eiry said, shrugging his shoulders and floating to Riv. Then, as he came near, he glanced up, took a double take, and pointed suddenly at something behind Rivener, "LOOK THERE!"
