User ImageKimi looked out to the sea, staring off, looking at nothing in particular, just letting her mind wander. She wasn't aware of what was going on around her, she did not know how long she has been here for. She could presume for a long time, but that didn't seem to matter to her anymore. Nothing really seemed to matter, nothing new or eventful happened to her lately. Perhaps it was her own fault, she hadn't allowed anything to happen for she has been living in fear.

It has been many months since a certan incident occrued that had changed Kimi's persona so drastically. Months ago when a Kalona brutally murdered a two-legger right before Kimi's eyes, then tried to kill her. Kimi ran, but it was no use, she eventually found herself trapped under a pile of wood, cutting at her sides.

The wounds were healed, yes, physically. But the memory left quite a scar to Kimi's mind, not a day would go by that she wouldn't think about what had happened. She found herself to be come a recluse, not leaving her home in fear of the event repeating itself. As of late, she's been spending a lot of time thinking, thinking about what the purpose of life is or where life can take her. Is there a purpose to life?

Kimi sighed.

No, there is no purpose.

The sea...it was amazing how much more impressive the sight was than the description. Saiena had always tried to badger her father into taking them to see the sea when she was younger, but he'd always denied her. Why would you need to go see the sea when you live on a huge lake? That had been his logic, and he'd stuck with that.

Personally, Sai had always just assumed he didn't feel like traveling that far, or more to the point, didn't feel like traveling that far with her and her brother Kileyo. Just because he flew everywhere and they couldn't fly (Kileyo when he was younger, she herself at all) didn't mean that they couldn't WALK to the sea.

Ah well. Part of being a foal was getting used to disappointmen, and she'd done that. Now that she was an adult, though...

Her lips curving into a somewhat smug smile, Saiena suddenly leapt forward into a twirl, her purple hooves kicking up sand. She was an adult, free to go where she wanted, when she wanted, and today...that was the sea!

She was so caught up in the moment that she at first didn't even notive the other mare....but then the dark blue caught her eye, and she was looking curiously in that direction. Another Soquili?

Kimi remained silent and still, staring out into the sea as she has been. She detected a change, not quite sure what it was. Perhaps it was a change in the wind, the sounds of a soft noise, the change of the sea's tide or an infinite of other possibilities. Kimi shut her eyes, giving them a brief rest from the dry and stale feeling they had from staring for so long.

Opening them again, she gained full awareness of her entire body. Her muscles in her legs felt stiff and tired, she felt the need to relax. Mentally she felt perfectly serene and calm, but her body was tense. With a deep breath, Kimi turned away from the sea, spotting a light blue mare.

Giving a slight smile, Kimi started to walk past the girl. She looked rather young, about the age Kimi was in her finest times. Oh, the beauties and joys of youth. Kimi's youth, despite the rough times, was actually quite happy, or at least, happier than she is now.

"Hello there," said Kimi, giving a nod to the mare casually. Kimi's expression was very obviously fake, trying to look happy, but failing to hide her inner sadness. "Lovely day, isn't it?"

As the other mare approached, Sai had stopped her twirling, adopting a more "balanced" stance that made it easy to give the darker mare a slight bow of greeting in return of her nod. A sage and solemn greeting, actually...but not one she could maintain very long. After all, she was in a good mood, seeing something she'd always wanted to see for the first time ever, and meeting someone new! What wasn't to like about that?

Consequently, she was more than a little bit giddy, which could possibly excuse her complete overlooking of Kimi's somewhat strained demeanor.

"Hi to you as well, and it certainly is! Blue sky, nice breeze, warm sun; this is the sort of day that just makes me feel alive! And a great day to be at the beach, wouldn't you say?"

Exhuberance, thy name is Saiena. Now, if only she could MEDIATE that!

"I'm Saiena, by the way."

"Saiena?" asked Kimi. The name sounded familiar, but Kimi was not quite sure where she had heard it before. It was a unique name so it was odd it seemed so recognizable, but Kimi let the thought go, preferring not to think too much about it. "Pretty name. Mine is Kimi."

"Yes, the weather is fine," said Kimi, only a slight and not-so-assuring nod. "Peaceful. Relaxing. Happy."

Somewhat contrasted to Kimi's own attitude.

"You certainly do seem to be having a good day," said Kimi, as if it were just an observation as opposed to any care or emotional attachment to her comment.

Being a talkative mare to begin with and (today, at least) an enthusiastic one besides, it was easy for Sai to miss some of the nuances of Kimi's behavior. Specifically, the way that the words didn't seem to match their tone or expression.

"Nice to meet you, Kimi, and I totally agree about the weather. Rain has it's perks, but it's just not as fun to be out in the rain. And it's a great day for me, honestly; I've ALWAYS wanted to see the ocean when I was growing up, by my Papa was never willing to bring me. He said that he felt the trip would be too long for me, but I knew it was actually too long for him; he's a wind, you see, and while he's good at flying he is SO lazy when it comes to walking and he WON'T fly when going anywhere with me since I can't and it makes him feel bad..."

And now she was rambling. Whoops!

"So basically, yeah; I just finally got to make it to the ocean! Kinda silly, I guess, but it's sure neat to me!"

"Your father is a Wind Soquili?" asked Kimi. "He must be quite an eyesight to have such a beautiful daughter. Such fascinating eyes."

Kimi paused for a second as she examined Saiena in adoration. She was a very beautiful mare with excellent details throughout her body. A very cool blend of colors as well.

"My own father is a Wind too," said Kimi. "My mother a zebra. I was born as a very interesting mix of the two of them. Dark coat with light stripes, my father's fiery hooves. Oh, he's part ice-phoenix, I forgot to mention that. Its quite an interesting family, often chaotic, as are all families, but there is still love."

Kimi paused, realizing that it was she who was rambling now.

"Sorry, I tend to ramble off somtimes," she added.

Although not really a vain Soquili, Saiena couldn't help but preen a little at the praise; she'd never really noticed her eyes before, but hearing them complimented couldn't help but bring a blush to her cheeks.

"Aww, thanks. As a matter of fact my Papa DOES look really cool; he's mostly white, with sandy wings tipped in teal and icy blue markings and a two-tone mane a tail...but he's my adopted Papa, actually, so I don't look anything like him at all. Sounds like you got a relly neat mix of traits from your parents, though!"

Now that Kimi mentioned it, Sai could definitely see where her parents' genes came in. The other mare was sure a neat color, and those stripes...though Sai adored her spots, she'd always been partial to patterns of any sort. And the other mare's feet!

"Is that real fire at your feet?"

Without really registering the rambling comment, Sai moved forward slightly, peering at the blue fire that curled about Kimi's feet. She'd never seen anything like that before...it looked so cool! Was that what she meant by being part ice-phoenix? What even WAS an ice phoenix?
