I entered my avatar in the avi arena for this coming week. It was my idea of the sea witch from "The Little Mermaid" (it's always been one of my favorite stories). Pretty weird for me, but I've been getting more self-confident and willing to be noticed. I'm entering a couple of pieces in a local art show as well...gosh, next thing you know I'll stop being afraid of outshining my sisters. Maybe then I'll be able to write beyond the first chapter of the five books I've started writing, then abandoned as either scary or crappy.
Yes, I'd appreciate votes in the arena, but more to the point, is anybody else working on letting themselves shine a bit brighter? It would be nice to hear about someone other than me spreading their wings a bit. I know it's a bit harder when you've got kids, but I think it's one of those things that can be incredibly hard no matter where you are in life.

sweatdrop ...Well, I've got a deviantART account under the name daneiki. A lot of my more recent stuff just doesn't scan well, though. And the works I'll be submitting to the show are a bit too big to fit on a scanner. I'm submitting one piece from my sumi ink painting class, and another from my Five Element project (a part of my acupuncture training) - I made and framed pictures of different fairytale critters for my nursery, one for each element (everybody liked the pixies best, so...).
Maybe I'll try cropping one of the things I *have* scanned and using it as a sig. Even the scanned ones are pretty huge...
I also caught wind of a t-shirt design contest for JJill (the clothes company), which I'm considering entering even though the prizes pretty clearly exclude wives and mothers of young children - the winner gets to take an adult female friend with her to a spa for spoiling and art lessons (a male winner just gets cash). Worst case, they just give me the free clothes, which is good since my butt has outgrown most of my pants.
