Hello everyone!

I've been thinking of some ideas for the guild to perhaps make it a bit more fun and social. I've got a few ideas already that I'd like everyone's thoughts on, and I'd like to hear your ideas too. Please let me know what you think.

Idea #1: Prompt of the Week

I was thinking that having a prompt each week would be a fun way to see everyone's different artistic view of the same subject. The prompts may be a general theme, a sentence, a single word or even a picture. Everyone would then have a week to post anything they want relating to the subject. Guild members could also submit their own prompt or theme ideas by sending me a PM. If I think it's a good idea, I'll use it!

Idea #2: Writing Contests

This may be related to the prompt of the week or it may be it's own category, I haven't decided yet. If it were connected to the prompt of the week, I would take the best ones submitted and award a special prize to the best ones. If its in it's own category, there will be other guideline for it, but at the moment it's still undecided.

The "best" entries could either be determined by a vote among guild members via poll, or it could be something that just the crew members (when we have some) and I could discus and decide on together.

Idea # 3: General Discussion Sub-Forum

This is probably the simplest idea so far. This would be a place for everyone in the guild to just talk about life or whatever else they want and get to know each other a little better.

I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on the idea's I've just presented, as well as any other suggestions for improving the guild in any way.

Member Suggestions

~Prompt of the week and contests could be done once every two weeks to allow more time for writting without being too lengthy.
~Seasonal/Holiday events such as secret santa or trick-or-treat.

Oh, what great ideas!
First of all, this post is just great. I'll put on my thinking cap and give this some thought in case I can come up with some interesting ideas myself.

On the ones you just presented, I have to agree with all three!

The prompt of the week is definetely a really cool idea, like you said, so we can see everyone's reaction to a topic/theme/idea.

Writing contests also win! And everyone likes goldies...so it might get even more people to do the prompt. But maybe for that one there could be a monthly contest or something, to give people more time. The same aplies to the prompt of the week.

And, the general discussion sub-forum...I was just going to say a Guild Chatterbox! (but not in the sense of spam, in the sense of discussing topics). But 'General Discussion Sub Forum' makes it sound so much cooler and mature...another win!

There's my input thus far...I'll be thinking! ;D

EDIT:
Hey, I know!
Instead of weekly prompts, or monthly, why not in-the-middle thngs_
Like, two-week contests, etc?
Just an idea...

I'm glad you like the ideas so far.

I agree on the semimonthly idea. I think that is a good amount of time. It's enough time to think it over and write a well thought-out piece of work, without letting it drag on too far. Great idea!

If you think of anything else, don't hesitate to say so!

Perhaps a subforum for writing guides and tips?

Perhaps seasonal events (Secret Santa, trick or treat...)?

Awesome! I love that you're putting thought into this!

The writing guide subforum is a good idea, but that's basically what "The writer's panel" is already for. Guides and tips can go in that subforum.

I like the seasonal events though. I definitely think that's a good possibility. We'll just have to think of some good holiday related activities. Good thing we don't have any big holidays coming up soon xd

You're very very welcome!

Yes, you're right. Creating too many subforums might lead to dispersion, and the guides and tips is totally included in the 'Writer's Panel' :3.

I have some experience in that! I've been in a Secret Santa (it seemed like a freaking load of work to organise, though XP) and have organised Trick or Treat hunt thingoes in the past XD.

Cool! If you want to help organize stuff like that when it gets near holidays, I would love that!. Unlike you, I don't have any experience organizing that kind of event, so I'll probably leave a lot of it up to you. I think it's a great idea though.

I am overly ecstatic over the idea of a writers guides and tips topic becasue i think the idea of a place where writers get help is always needed because people can always improve. I also love the thoguht of a prompt. I agree with the semimonthly thing because of the time. So yeah if i think of something ill be sure to come back and put it here but i wanted to make sure that i got an input here.

For the "Writing Contest" or "Prompt of the Week" ideas, I think we should have contests/prompts in which we challenge members to write something in a particular style. For instance, if we have a short story contest, then perhaps a criterion for entry is that one has to write their story in the style of Faulkner.

It would be fun to see how people handle working with styles outside of their normal comfort zone.

Maybe we should have a script subforum? I know I really enjoy writing scripts- I don't know about everyone else, but if enough people write them, such a subforum could come in handy.

The Writer's Panel is getting tangly between so many unfinished novels and threads in which people ask/give help.

I suggest creating a 'Novels' subforum and moving all the novels into that subforum. That way, it'll be a lot more user friendly. People can search for exactly what they're looking for.

I agree with needing a subforum just for novels and keeping the Writer's Panel for people who need help/want to give it.

I think the general discussion sub-forum is a really good idea. I also think having holiday-related events is a good idea, though it would require alot of organization.

I think there should be a spot for guild members to host their own writting contests, they would be in charge of running the contest, and also in charge of providing the prizes if any.
