Keahi's blood-red gaze rested on the surface of the water with an intensity that would send any mere mortal into a dead run. As it was, the water only continued in it's course, flowing in swirling pools and moving gently in the midnight winds, completely oblivious to the fact that it was under scrutiny; if it knew, it did not care... if it was even capable of thought or emotion, Keahi wished to know. And so lay the reason for her careful observations.
Ever since she was a foal, she posessed of a fierce need for knowledge. She wanted to know everything about everything, though not for any petty want to further herself in this world rather a genuine interest in... everything. It didn't matter if the item in question was a caterpillar or a leaf or an elephant. She wanted to know. She needed to know.
Her form was lit in the moonlight, reflecting easily on the mirrored surface of the lake. And yet she stared not at herself, simply at the water. Clouds moved over the moon as though they were sheep herded by the wind, marring it's deliverance of light to the world below. Keahi was oblivious to her surroundings, so intent was she on solving the mystery of the water.
It moved as though with a life of it's own on even the calmest of days... but that could be due to the wind or some other element. It lulled some to sleep with it's noise... was that the waves breaking or the wind moving across the water? Was there a true center of the ocean? Was that center a gem, as some believed, or was it simply a pull of gravity?

Aaaaannnndddd.... crest the hill. Stop. Strike a pose and shake the dust off. Vasu'Raj was having his own inner dialouge as he moved, mapping out his movements well in advance of the actual action. And indeed, he did crest the hill like some grand Stallion and stood there like he was surveying what would be his entire kingdom. Which was only ruined by the puff of dust coming off his coat when he shook. He had indeed been out rolling in the dirt, simply on impulse. And a bad itch on his back. Which means I need to bathe. To the river! And so off he went, trotting down the hill side into the river basin. He was trotting in time to the random music he was making too. He was in an excellent mood right now. Nothing to do, nothing to worry about, and that dirt patch had been excellent. One just had to get dirty some times. Though it wasn't like he behaved like this all the time. He stopped bouncing along to his own tunes as he approached the river and stepped up to the water line and paused for a moment as he pressed his hooves into the soft sand and gravel at the edge. He took a good look around once a cloud had exposed the moon again, to see what he could on guess was a mare standing not two feet away from him. The dark coat had made it almost impossible to see her. He blinked, then looked away, and then turned his blues back to the mare to make sure she was still there and not some illusion generated by some spirit. He opened his mouth to say something and then closed it again and frowned. She hadn't even moved, she was just staring at the water. He moved closer to the mare and then looked down at the water, then back at her. He leaned in closer, so much that his nose was almost touching the water's surface and stayed there for a minute. He didn't get it. Finally, he looked up at her, "What are we looking at?"

Keahi's head jerked up with a jolt; she hand't heard him approach. Her eyes were widened with fright, the entire circle of her pupils showing clearly. A strangled noise came from her throat, expelled just as all remnants of her thoughts were swept away. The mare quickly got herself under control, returning her breathing to normal. She even tried to slow her heartrate, though that attempt was fruitless.
Her eyes fixed on the blue eyes peering up at her with a puzzled expression. Her gaze went in and out of focus as the clouds moved across the moon, though between those moments of light she could discern the following: something very quiet had snuck up on her. It has a dark coat... black. Swirling designs covered it's coat, of a light green or light blue color. It was muscled... ah, a stallion.
Had her coloring allowed, a blush would have rose in her cheeks; since it did not, the black just seemed a little darker.
"... Um..." She opened her mouth and tried to form words before she knew what it was she was going to say, and the result showed in her monosymbolic greeting. She tried again. "Good evening... I was looking at the surface of the water." Now that the action was put into words, it seemed quite silly. "I was trying to figure out if water had a life..."

Vasu jumped and bounced back into the river water when Keahi had jerked. He hadn't expected her to react with such a jolt. And he considered briefly running away, that perhaps this was some sort of trick out to get him. But such thoughts were qwelled rapidly when the mare didn't make any further motions and seemed to calm down. He regained his composure a second later and then tilted his head at the explination of her actions, his ears cocking in the same direction, "That's weird."
"Of course water does not live." He stomped around in the water, splashing it everywhere upon himself and the mare as if to prove his point. His response was matter of fact, even though he didn't back it up with any sort of reasoning. Water was water and there was no reason to think otherwise, "I would think, maybe, there is life IN the water. But water itself cannot live. That's just wierd." He made a face then, "And if it lived, it'd sure make drinking it a much more... " He stopped to ponder upon his words, and then openned his mouth to speak again, but could not think on how to end his sentence, "Oh well, you get my point." Again, he said it matter of fact, and there was no room for arguement.
"It's a nice night though, why you would spend it just looking at water is a little odd. You could... be... looking at other.... things?" He gave the suggestion like he wasn't sure if it would offend her or not, and his facial expression was rather comical. Or what could be seen of it in the moonlight.

Keahi blinked. She had heard of her theories, if they could be called that, to be silly (her sister,) stupid (Tiffany... but then, Tiffany thought everything was stupid,) and slightly odd but hey at least she's thinking (her father.) Weird? No.
She had to admit though, he did have a point.
After all, water was only given a gender and life in old wive's tails about sailors. Or her mind. Yes, it would be quite 'weird' for fish to swim about and deposit their waste in another living thing, and it would be quite 'weird' for them to drink something that had a life and soul.
"What other..." she trailed off, casting her gaze about them. The stars, the moon, the clouds, shadowed trees and underbrush, an owl. There was plenty to look at, plenty to ponder. She had so many options, and talking with this stallion was only one of them.
However, he was the only thing that would talk back to her... unless the trees had learned English. Were trees capable of thought...? She shook her head to dispell the thought, certain that if she asked questions about something that didn't have any face to speak of, the answer to anything she could come up with would most likely be 'No.' She had best redirect her efforts at solving the mysteries of the world to things that could provide solid evidence from which to make assumptions on, and cease the philosophical nonsence that demanded so much of her attention that she could be easily snuck up on.
Her eyes widened slightly again, though this time it was only momentary. She did not even know this stallion's name. "Ah... My name is Keahi, may I inquire as to yours?"

"Oh... well... I'm Vasu'Raj." He flashed Keahi a dashing smile and lifted his head higher. He was showing off. "Keahi is a pretty name, I like it." He liked Keahi over all. She was weird, just from first impressions, but that was just fine, "And you're pretty." He was simply stating what he saw, and Keahi was indeed very nice to look at. The red markings were far more visible in the moonlight, and in his opinion, the white light seemed to make them glow in an intriguing way.
He had to stop and think for a moment. Why did he just tell this mare she was pretty? He hadn't reacted in such a way before. He gave his head a little shake and pondered why he had said such a thing, kicking at the water. He still needed to clean of the rest of the dust, but that wasn't so much a pressing matter right now.

"Thank you." Vasu'Raj's smile was so warm that it induced a smile of her own to appear. It was as though she couldn't resist. She would have liked to think that his words had nothing to do with her happiness. A slight tinge of humor was swirled in with the joy; Tiffany, a mare whom she had only met the day before, had said she was ugly and would never find a stallion willing to 'settle' for her... and yet Vasu'Raj had said he thought she was pretty.
"Vasu'Raj is a dashing name." She felt that a compliment should be returned with it's kind, but she did truly like his name. It was truly unique, as it consisted of two parts instead of only one... and yet the two were linked.
She cast a brief glance at the water the stallion had kicked up, wondering if it was simply a nervous gesture. Her eyes traveled back to his face, or what she could see of it in the flickering light.

Whatever shyness or embarrassment had overtaken Vasu quickly vanished with the compliment to his name. "Why thank you. I think I'm very dashing myself." That comment came with a small laugh and that smile which had faded previously was right back where it should be. Smiling suited Vasu really well. "So how long were you standing there anyway? I doubt you could have gotten much from staring at water in the dark." He walked out of the water and back onto the river banks, shaking off the water.
Quite honestly, he couldn't stop looking at her. She was very attractive to him. And those red eyes were the most interesting part. He had never seen red eyes before. But he didn't voice those thoughts and decided that it'd be better to at least know her more. He was still young, and as such, this was pretty much the first time he had noticed more about a mare than just the space she took up in the universe so to speak. Would it be like this for every mare he came across now? Perhaps. Though he wouldn't mind too much if every mare he meet were beautiful...
He kind of wanted to hit his head against a rock now to stop that train of thought. But no such luck. No large rocks around, so he just kept on smiling.

The glow in her eyes became ever brighter at that, her voice bearing hints of laughter. "Ah, well... I suppose I allowed my mind to wander too far; I looked up once, and it was day... I looked up again, and night had fallen." She cast a glance at the offending sky. "It is really quite amazing, to think I had stood still for that long..." She arched her neck and stretched her legs, as though the stiffness that lack of movement caused was finally catching up with her.
She gazed at him in the flickering light. Were his eyes sky blue? Aqua-marine? No, too light. Baby's Breath Blue? Or simply light blue? She shook her head briefly. What point was there in pondering the color of a stallion's eyes?
"I did, however, get something from staring at water in the dark: an answer. True, you spoke it, though an answer is an answer whether it comes from one's own thoughts or from another's wisdom." She smiled. "Plus, I was able to meet someone new..."

"So would you care to walk with me? Staying still like that so long must have left you sore." He turned his back to the river and looked back at the mare with a questioning look, as if to say, "are you coming?" He could walk away with or without her with him. Though he could use the company. He followed up quickly with more conversation though to keep her interest, "So, are you always staring at rivers or do your interests cover other things?"
"I myself tend to enjoy a good evening romp." That would explain why he was out so late to begin with. If one looked close enough, you could still see that his coat was dusty as well. It wasn't too hard to guess what he was doing.

"I would love to." Keahi smiled softly, wondering if he was simply attune to other's feeling or if her comments had been taken for hints. Either way, it did not matter; she would walk with him whatever the case.
"No, my interests are not limited to staring at rivers. I like almost everything... I enjoy learning about new things, whether they be plant or animal or something that doesn't really have a life." She cast a quick glance at the water before returning her full attention to him.
"Just taking off in any direction and galloping who-knows-where is fun at times, though at night i've found that the occasional stump or rock can appear out of nowehere and ruin the fun." Her red eyes glinted with merriment.
