Noraboo has decided to follow the "ruin something for everyone because a few people are stupid' school of thought, the school of thought that so brilliantly got my favorite slide taken down as a kid ( I'm still bitter ). She has decided to take away our sweet sweet candy of satire because some kids got it stuck up their nose. Oh well, we still have metaphor. Here is the post, which is an announcement in ED Noraboo A reminder for all: Number One: Satire Threads - Probably not a good idea. When you make a thread, remember that the main goal should be to generate interesting, novel discussion. It is good if your thread entertains, but this is still a discussion forum. Therefore, all satire threads will be subject to very strict scrutiny. Any threads not meeting ED standards will be removed. If you do not think you can pull your thread off or write it well, please don't bother. In addition, tread carefully. If your thread is not well constructed (and sadly sometimes even if it is) people will not always understand and may react poorly to your thread. If your satire thread has the effect of inciting a flame fest, you could find yourself on the receiving end of a warning for trolling. Number Two: White Text - Might as well not be there. Now this is tricky, so pay attention. Do not make your thread partly or all in white text. This does not count as part of the thread, so if the remainder does not make for an ED appropriate thread, it will be removed. If your intent is to make a serious discussion thread, then do so. This is not kindergarden. Feel free to perhaps include some elaboration on a point or additional commentary that you feel is useful but might detract from people addressing the main point, or perhaps something that is a witty comment on the thread if you're feeling clever. White text does have uses, although these take some skill to pull off, and so it is advisible that you don't bother. However! While white text for the purposes of your discussion does not matter, do not think that if you put any sort of TOS violating material in white text you can then get away with it. Nuh-uh. So don't do it.

*grins* It's not exactly a threat.. just a warning to keep the satires to a high standard, and make sure they don't break the ToS. The trolling warning can probably be avoided by putting in a disclaimer for all to see, at least that way, if theres a flamefest, and a mod gets on to you, you can point out to them that theres a disclaimer there, which marks the thread as a satire, and suggest that the 'flamers' didn't read the thread properly (best to not call the flamers illiterate b***ards though.. i don't think it would go over too well blaugh ) (feel free to shoot me down, i can take it 3nodding ) Montparnasse Noraboo has decided to follow the "ruin something for everyone because a few people are stupid' school of thought, the school of thought that so brilliantly got my favorite slide taken down as a kid ( I'm still bitter ). ;_; I weep for humanity if people are too dumb to read well and intelligence must be punished.

It's so funny how that was released after they deleted my racism satire. Which was deleted for abuse of white text. I do believe Flip of Darkstar had a similar one too. And Veilside had a thread going all in white text but with serious debate. It's sad really. They were all good threads.

Sad. I never got the chance either. Perhaps if Don has a copy of it saved to his computer, he can paste the first post to the guild forum?

Yea. And I started ranting how even the Italians and whites who are into rock were also evil. I used pictures of myself for those examples and admitted they were me. People still didn't realize it was satire. domokun

The question is, is satire a privilege or an earned right? Noraboo treats it like the former, while I know that it is an earned right that I had to think for. It is apparently our fault that people on Gaia don't have the humor or intellect to comprehend something as oh-so-complicated as the concept of satire.
There's always oxymoron and metaphor. And even though I cannot have satire in my threads, it shall flourish in my posts. Bite that, Noraboo!
