Nyunya had not slept a whole night through for many days, and even when her eyes did close, her slumber was fitful and not resting. She was tired, and not just physically, but although the moon was round and high in the sky, she was not snuggled up in her den with her extended family. Rather, she was sitting atop a small boulder, a pale silhouette against the darkness of the land and sky. Her mate, her cubs, her sisters-turned-daughters and her mother were all asleep, not disturbed by the thoughts that plagued the petite lioness. Thoughts that nothing so far has been able to rid her of.
She sighed quietly, looking up at the stars as if they might hold the answer. What was she to do? What was she supposed to do without her mother? Her cubs had already expressed wishes to see both of her mothers... what was she supposed to tell them about Denge? Why did this have to happen to her? And why now, when things had been settling down at last, and Nyunya had been happer than she ever had been before Taabu? Her father had to show up again and hurt more of those that Nyunya loved. Because it wasn't just her mother on her mind; it was both parents, and they each brought their own headaches and heartaches.

Duhushi didn't really know why he wandered so far from home. He needed someone to talk to who wouldn't just listen because he was talking and anything he said could be taken as the nest headline around the pack. "Disturbed King bears all." Yeah. That would be just the boost he needed. His father had given everything to him.
Everything.
Then he went to go find that friend of his. It certainly wasn't what the new father needed to hear. The only one who raised him going off to be with someone else. In his confusion, he'd wanted to talk to Amleth but she didn't need to be bothered by his troubles. She had new born cubs to worry about and her own buisness.
The purple King's shoulders quivered in the night air making his mane shake. A sigh came from Duhu's muzzle as he walked. Nyunya had said that he could come to her at anytime. One of his oldest friends. He could always talk to her..right?
It was certainly one of those times she spoke of.

Nyunya sucked in a shaky breath and dropped her eyes from watching the grey-purple clouds drift across the sky. There was quiet and peace throughout the land, but turmoil raged inside her mind and heart. Over and over again she silently asked her mother what she should do now... and always another silence answered her, deep and empty, coming from the void where her mother used to be. No, not used to be; she was still there, Nyunya knew that, but there was also the knowing that she'd never see her mother's smile or hear her laugh, save for memories. That was the real void within her. With Ithi's weakness, she just hoped another void would not spring up beside the other.
She glanced around to her left, then her right, and then over her shoulder, and spotted a very familiar purple figure moving through the night. Her eyes widened in surprise, and she got to her paws, turning on the surface of the small boulder to face him properly. "Duhu? What are you doing here?" She sounded happy - as happy as one could be in her position, which was a far cry from ecstatic - and even managed a smile for him.

The familiar smell in the air brought his mind from the continuous circle of questions it had put itself in. She was cloose. Very close. His head rose a bit as he sniffed the air again. A small smile pulled at the corner of his maw as he followed it until her voice broke him from his galloping pace.
"Nyunya..."
He hoped she was alright. So much had changed for the both of them that she came to his mind more and more. It gave him comfort to think about all the times he had strayed into her lands just to see her for a short while. Of course, those days were behind both of them. As he got closer, the smile on his maw faultered at her expression and the lack of joy in her voice.
"I wanted to find you Nyunya. Is that a problem, my dear?" He could sense that she was going through something too but small talk, if he said the right thing, always made her smile.

Duhu was right; the small talk, with his little endearments, did strengthen her smile and give it more life, made it show a bit more of the Nyunya Duhu had last seen. He always, without fail, managed to put Nyunya in a better mood, a mood where she was playful and almost cub-like, especially when it was just the two of them. She could already feel it, the anticipation of it, and it was a welcome relief. Taabu was her love, her heart, her very soul, but there was something about Duhu that part of her would always love. It would never be acted upon now, not that way, but it held him very dear to her and made him probably her very best friend.
She hopped off her rock, walking slowly closer to him, and the closer she came the bigger he got, until her nose barely levelled with the top of his shoulder. "It's never a problem, Duhu, you know that. But you've picked rather unsociable hours. What would you have done if I was sleeping?"

The purple king smiled widely, giving the much smaller lioness an affectionate nuzzle between her ears. It had been awhile since he had taken in her scent. It had been oh so alluring to the male when they were younger yet, even with Amleth as his bride, it still held a certain power over him. Something that compelled him to be close to her whenever she was near. Of course, that was wishful thinking. She was a mother now. Off in a far away land with her mate and he was pleasantly nestled in the graveyard. Far from prying eyes of everyone else. A perfect place for him and his own true love.
"You, I'm sorry to say, aren't the reason why I wander. If you had been asleep I would have continued on like always. This is just to clear my head." He took a deep intake of breath before sighing into her fur. "It's soothing to smell new air. Don't you agree Ny?"
With his cubs a bit older now, it was quite nice to take a break and leave his small court in charge. Amleth could take care of things for a little bit. "And what about you my little flower? It's far too late to entertain let alone be awake. Something must be troubling you. What dares plague the mind of my dearest friend?"

Nyunya purred quietly, briefly, as Duhu nuzzled against her, rubbing her face into his colourful mane. It was a relief to have someone do this without there being some measure of sympathy behind it, without them wanting to comfort her. She appreciated the comfort from her mate and mother more than she could ever express to them in words or actions, but right now she didn't need that. She just needed this simple and easy affection between close friends to ease her troubled mind.
She pulled back with a smile, bracing a paw against his chest and shoving lightly. "Oh, how you break my heart, Duhu."
At his last question, however, her paw dropped to the ground again as her smile faltered, expression going sombre, sitting slowly where she stood. "Many things, old friend; many things." She wanted to tell him, suddenly... but did she really? Did she want to talk it through again? Her mind wavered in indecision on the fact as her gaze dropped to the ground between their paws.
