Sophie had never gotten word about the April Fools incident, but after a certain amount of time she began to accept it along with every other strange thing on this Island: if she could be turned into some chihuahua thing, then she could certainly lose months of time. She only hoped that the tag they put into her ear, which she'd been too worried about to remove, didn't mean they'd done testing on her. It was a bother, really, but she didn't want to risk the wrath of the labs by taking it out if they'd intended it to be there. She wasn't going to be the one to start trouble.

So, seeing as how it was a rather beautiful day, Sophie decided to spend it outside, as she had no better way to spend her time. Donned in tattered shorts and a t-shirt tied to show her midrift, she quietly walked down beside the river, following it to where it would eventually meet either the sea or the mountains. By the way the current seemed to be flowing, she appeared to be heading upstream, and deeper into the woods, but at the moment she didn't seem to notice, lost in thought as she stared at the passing waters.

A soft noise woke her from her daydreams, and her ears perked up as her gaze jerked towards the trees, from where she'd heard the noise. In all actuality, it was probably some tropical woodland creature, enjoying the day as she was, but something set off the alarms of her instincts, reminding her of the stories she'd heard of the vicious she-wolf.

Suddenly, the idea of a stroll alone didn't sound all that appealing.

"...Hello? Anyone there?" Sophie stepped backwards, closer to the edges of the river. If anything else, she hoped that the she-wolf couldn't swim, and she could use the river to escape. "...Hello-oooo..."

Newt had hidden away in the swamp for a long while in an attempt to nurse his wounds. He eventually found the first aid kit Richard had been so kind to leave him, but he didn't know what he could do for the wounds in question. Adhesive bandages wouldn't stick to his slimy skin, and were not quite as large as they needed to be regardless. His chin and maw throbbed and burned. The bleeding had nearly stopped, but the scabbing was unreliable. With the kit in tow, he had therefore made a timid hop back down the river towards the village in hopes of finding someone to help him. Someone who wasn't Richard. He debated going to Dee, but guilt still made him hesitate. What if Richard was right? What if he hadn't HAD an excuse to run? He could claim instincts all he wanted, no one else knew the sort of things going through his mind.

When he heard something approaching through the jungle, he landed heavily, scooting to hide under a fern. He wasn't drunk now- he was horrifically sober and slightly hung over, and the false sense of bravery that came with the drunk was gone. He quivered, peering through the underbrush before a terrified "krrIIIT" suddenly escaped his throat.

The froglike sound made Sophie jump, nearly falling into the water, but she became somewhat more at ease that she had heard a ribbit as opposed to some sort of snarl. Feeling somewhat emboldened by adrenaline and a nagging sense of familiarity, the fox girl stepped forward, though still close enough so that she could jump into the river if needed.

Maybe it was just a frog...that would make sense, seeing as how she was next to a river. Frogs lived near rivers, after all. However, she also seemed to remember a certain frog from a few months ago, crying in the cafeteria...what was his name...

"...Newton, is that you?" Sophie had never learned the frog-man's shortened name in their last encounter, but had never thought him to have a nickname of sorts: she simply assumed that he went by his given name. "It's Sophie...Uh...we met a few months ago, I think. Is that Newt, or am I just talking to some random frog?" She laughed a little at her last statement: oh joy, now she was going insane.

At the sound of the voice that was definitely no snarl, the timid amphibian poked his bleeding snout from behind his fern, round knobbly eyes folding in on themselves in a froggy blink. "KrrrIIIT!" He started, findings his voice only after he caught sight of her, "I th-thought you were a .. ahh...!" From under his chin wrapped up across the side of his muzzle were three smooth slashes, still raw and painful looking. They were undoubtedly caused by claws by the look of them.

Sophie heard Newt's voice before she saw his face, and was rather surprised to see a completely frog looking stare in her direction. It seemed Newt had finished his changes...but what seemed to catch her eye the most at the moment were the three long scratches on his snout, at first causing her to think of the she-wolf, but then came thoughts to help him, and because the latter over-ruled, she came closer, a worried look on her fur-covered face.

"Hey there...what happened to you?" Her ears were perked, alert to the possibility that a predator could be nearby, but for now, her human half was focused on the frog. "Are you okay?" She bent down to get a better look, but stayed a good five feet away so the man wouldn't be startled. "Maybe you should go get that cleaned up, y'know?"

He slipped out, trembling as he twisted his head this way and that to make sure the coast was clear. With a hop, he landed beside the fox-girl, a plastic box gripped between his stubby webbed hands. "I... ah... KrrIIT" A squeak escaped his throat and he kept his head down in a guilty fashion. The box was the first aid kit Richard had left him. "B-bandages... d-don't... ah... s-stick..." He managed in a quiet, pained voice.

Sophie nearly toppled over from her crouched position, but somehow she managed to keep her balance as the frog man jumped closer, giving her a better look at his wounds. It was something she would definitley get cleaned up, if not bandaged really well.

"Bandages don't work?" Well, that struck out one of her options, and her brows furrowed as she tried to think of another idea to properly treat his wounds. She was no doctor, but there had to be something she could do. "Uh...did you think about getting some of the cloth bandages, and tying them down? I don't think those are supposed to stick: maybe that'd work." She shrugged, looking down at the box he held. "Hey, first aid box: maybe there's some cloth bandages in there." Her voice sounded hopeful, but her eyes were still worried: what could've done that to him?

He pushed the box towards her thankfully, his enormous eyes twitching over her changed features, dim memories of what felt like ages ago coming back to him. Take away the fur of the face... her hair and the way she dressed... pointed ears, right? The voice... "I... ahh..." He frowned and gave a pained squeak when the movement pulled at his wounds, "D-d-don-don-don't... er... re-recall your n-name?"

Sophie opened the box, fumbling through it until she found what she was looking for: a roll of pale peach cloth, bundled up and held together by a little metal clasp meant for tying it down. She was about to jokingly make some comment about her victory when Newt asked her name, and she looked at him, her large eyes blinking before she smiled in an understanding fashion.

"My name's Sophie. Don't worry, it's been such a long time...your name's Newton, right?" She hadn't thought of the possibility that she'd remembered it wrong, but if there was a time to ask, it would have been then.

"I... I... I'm sup-sup-sup-surprised you... you rec-rec-recognize me..." He managed, wincing after an attempt to smile. His eyes twitched down to the cloth and he sat back, "Isn't... th-that for sp-sp-sprains?"

"It's easy to remember people when everyone's so...different," Sophie responded, looking from Newt to the bandage. "Uh...is it? I've used it for cuts before...not on my face, granted, but I think closing up the wound would be better than nothing." She looked back to his cuts, trying to figure out how she could best tie it down without closing his mouth. "I'm thinking the labs would have a better time fixing you up, but I don't know how much you'd want to do that." She gestured to her tagged ear to make a point.

The motion brought the wounded frog's attention up to what he had previously thought to be an earing. His throat jumped curiously as he lifted his head in an attempt to see better, blood dribbling down his belly in the process. "Ah... th-they... aaah... w-well... I ... I sup-suppose... w-we aren't... y-you know... human to them... I m-mean... krrIIT... we aren't really... human anyway b-but ah..."

Sophie frowned: she didn't like the idea that she wasn't human. She was still who she was on the inside, right? That's all that mattered, didn't it? However, her eye caught the blood dribbling down his chest, and she decided that now wasn't the best time to argue philosophies with an injured frog: there were better things she could be doing with her time.

"Well, either way, we need to get this bleeding stopped, so I'm going to try something," she said, her voice somewhat strained as her mind wandered back to the previous topic. Was she still the same person on the inside, if her personality was simply a mixture of chemicals and electricity? Had they really changed her? How could she compare? Her brows furrowed as she searched through the box again, pulling out little square pieces of gauze and sticking them to his cut, wiping the blood first. "I think I could use the bandage to tie down the gauze, and that could hold you over for a little while. Seriously, though, you might want to get in touch with a doctor. Are there any non-lab doctors on the Island? Someone who could help you?" Her ears twitched as she looked at the frog, keeping a slight pressure on the gauze. If nothing else, it would stop the bleeding.

"Wh-what... what about... an... an an-an-an-animal expert? " He glanced up in all seriousness, his mind going back to Dee once again. He had to finish his apology present first. But still, maybe she could help him? She'd been so kind to him otherwise... He had done very little in the way of taking care of her, though, hadn't he? The thought made him depressed. "W-well... m-maybe not..." He needed to get this sorted out before he saw her next. He winced a little at the pressure, but it seemed that what the fox-girl was managing had worked a lot better than what the frog had tried on himself.

"An animal expert would work, I guess, or they'd at least know how to care for this a little better than I would," Sophie responded, shrugging. Now came the tricky part. Holding the gauze with one hand, she picked up the bandage and slipped that on top, working with a small amount of difficulty to hold the gauze and maneuver herself around to his back, where she could tie it back. She smiled to herself: the gauze was barely long enough to work.

"Could you press down on that? I need both my hands free," Sophie asked, looking down at the small white square. She seemed oblivious to the fact that she was practically holding him: in her mind, as long as she didn't think it to be affectionate, then it wasn't.
