i wanted to create this to help any one that needs help deciding on a career or looking for advice in how to become what they want to be. i think that it is important to know where you wanna go in life and i know that some ppl need encouragement, help, and generally just to talk about it.
maybe we can help eachother. by tips and advice...

i want to be a music video editor and director....
hoping to attend san fran college if art for 4 years
then finish my last year at art center.

i'm not really sure what i want to be, i was thinking seamstress (i make and design my own clothes at the moment, well, i've been doing it for a year now), or maybe just the bassist for my band (I've currently been playing it for a year, and i have to say, i'm getting pretty good.). I'm in 9th grade, and I'm fading between those two things. Could you help me out?

you could always opt to do both fashion and music. like, become a big star and then start your own clothing line.

writings always been my passion and if i could do anything i would be a freelance writer but i am sorta discouraged by the lack of stability that occupation entails. people tell me i should pursue journalism but i am pretty sure i DONT wanna be a journalist. it would be nice to have a column in a music magazine or something but im still not sure what i should do. and it sucks because in september im going to be a senior...i dont wanna have a midlife crisis and be dissapointed about whatever career i choose...i want to make the right decision for myself but i have a lot of conflicting emotions/thoughts and @ this point im pretty uncertain about a lot of things.

i feel the same way. i feel a little lost right now and i'm worried i'm not making the right decisions. i'm a rising senior as well and it's driving me nuts.

maybe you could embrace the instability of being a writer, like maybe in stead of thinking of it as unstable, think of it as flexable. you could be a journalist, and have a column if you wish, and even write a novel too. you don't have to do journalism for your whole career or anything. it's just something you can do to pay the bills.

well for starters... no matter what try your damnest to get in to a college. whetther a communtiy college or state, either way they both help. now lets say you dont know what you want to do. that is quite alright. if you make it into a college your primary goal for the first year or so is to get your pre reqs done. that means your have your assoc. degree. also meaning that finding a better paying job will be way easier, than if you didnt have that degree. next, if you like to write. do it. my parents had a tough time accepting my passion for art and discouraged me from doing it saying that i will be a starving artist. authors are sometimes faced with the same catagory placement. but here is some food for thought. most colleges offer placement programs, from there you can develope a portfolio, from there you start to search for something that suits you. not all journalism jobs are sketchy and unstable. like they are portrayed in movies and tv shows.

i am going to be a senior too. i am nervous as hell. and have pretty much my entire family hoping i will turn my back on my passion and make a more profitable life doing something like.... i dont know accounting, or real estate. but would i be happy? not likely. it's taken me three years to come to the realization that not all artists or poor and starving there are different artists just as there are different writters.
this is a cool sight maybe it will help. if you want further help pm me.

desiging clothes is fun. there are plenty of colleges that arent too hard to get into that are totally into designing clothes. but along with following the college route into clothing design comes the deeper side of art. like learning about human figuring and proportioning, color composition, and more. i suggest trying, no matter what to make it to any college at least just for your 2 year assoc. so that you can support your dream of rockstardom with a well paying job. that way with or without the band you still have money. to support your other dream of making clothes.

I'm already making my career come true. I'm studying to be a psychologist for those of you who are questioning a career don't worry. Your allowed to change nobody said you ever had to stick with one thing for the rest of your life. I'm a junior right now, i'm getting ready to apply to grad school pretty soon still not sure where I want to go. Gotta take some exams first. I think the most important thing, is just go for it. Do what you love, but with that said always have some sort of back up plan as well. IF you expect to be some sort of major famous artist, it may not happen that doesn't mean you shouldn't try but go through college and maybe get a degree in art history or something. I went to community college it's really worth while if you don't have a lot of money or finicial aid avaible or the grades to go where you want to go. I found it's pretty much the exact same education your going to get in your first two years at almost any major universities. Just less classes avalible and not the same atmospehere. AA degree however doesn't help all that much. I been trying to find a part time job with one and put it on my resume no such luck.. really. They just say I don't have enough experience. It's still better than a high school diploma but, If you can get some sort of credential or certification in a specific field at a community college it's better. I got my cretification in cisco networking that's helped me out a hell of alot more than my AA has. It took less time to get too.

I'm going to be a vagabond. I like being naive enough to think that I'd live happily forever roaming from town to town without a job or a house.

...but I'll probably just be a history teacher.

i'm a rising freshman. maybe i look too far into the future, but i'm of the opinion that what i do now affects the rest of my life. i'm taking a challenging courseload (three ninth grade classes and three tenth grade classes, five of the six advanced).

my basic plan for my future: i want to go to either duke or stanford undergrad and double major in chemistry and biology. then i want to go to graduate school at m.i.t. and get my doctorate. then i want to go to harvard law. m.i.t. is debatable, but i would love to have the flexibility that this would give me: i can go into law or science, which are my two favorite areas.

has anyone taken the new sat? i took the old one in seventh grade and got a 1370, but i'm not sure how i'll do on the writing part.

I read a study that saw that the longest essays on the SAT received in general higher scores. Granted, the kids who will write more are probably the kids who write better ayways.

You don't have to be a journalist to use that composition degree. Many people don't relize that there are great opportunities for english majors. One of the most importnat is the editors of publishing companies. Think about that.
