Ok, I need to rant, it was 2am and I have an exam at 9am and I am flipping out!!! Wanna know what exam questions are like for those kids who specialize in mythology? well I have a few of my exam questions.

1. In your opinion, how accurate a portrayal of war do we get in the myths about the Trojan War? Given the importance of this mythic cycle in Greek mythology, what does this tell you about the Greeks' own attitudes to war?

2. The Greeks considered Heracles their greatest hero. In your opinion, is this perception justified? Why or why not? Given what we know of Heracles, what does this tell you about the greeks' own vision of heroism?

3. How heroic is Odysseus in your opinion? Some Greek writers (Euripides especially) saw him as a villain. Is this a fair interpretation of him? Why or why not?

Outline the account of the twelve labours of Heracles. Include the reason why he has to do the labours and include any two of the parerga (sidedeeds) which he accomplishes while completing the labours. Finally give one system which can be used to organize these labours.

And I'm walking in and failing.

non bonam fortunam!

Yes, Hercules is the Roman Herakles, however, Iolus is the same...
except, in Greek mythology Iolus is Herakles' lover but the Roman's shy away from that (especially after Nero upset the state and married his lover as the woman of the relationship) xd

Ooh scanadal!

How did the exams go, by the way? Do you think you really failed anything?

Yeah, I'm the same. At my school we have this stupid New Zealand system called NCEA were there are only four grades you could possibly get: Not Achieved (fail), Achieved (pass), Merit (very good), and Excellence (go to the top of the class!). It' stupid because the Excellence students are the brilliant and the really good all grouped together, and you don't know exactly where you stand or how good you are in comparison with others. All you know is Excellence, which basically just means you answered all the questions to a good enough level. In big assignments, it just means you finished. To get a worse mark you have to miss things out.

NCEA is gay. And I'm supposed to be at the *in snooty accent* "best school in the country", but they still managed to screw it up. I was so angry when I found out the year below me might get to take IB instead. scream

So, what I meant to say is that anything less than an Excellence for me is like a fail.
