It's weird, okay, in my opinion, Anime is generally better than American cartoons when it comes to having a serious story and such. Now I know G1 TF is also kinda goofy, but does anyone else find it kinda weird (if they share my opinion) that the Anime versions of TF aren't as good at the original G1 series?....
Note: Remember, that's if your opinion is the same about G1 compaired to the Anime series...

A lot of the animes that you or I would watch is normally intended for older veiwers. The transformers anime like RiD/Armada/Energon is intended for younger viewers, so theres no real need for a strong story line, as long as theres action or pretty stuff...

That is true, but the same goes for the G1 series. It was intended more for children as well though it can still be appreciated by people like us as well. I just mean you'd think they'd do a better job at making they're Anime versions of TF as geed as the G1 series, right? That's what I think anyway.

Unfortunately that is the case.
Transformer's is an interesting series. The charaters started as vehicles in others Japanes series, and then Hasbro imported the toys. After importing the toys they made a half an hour comercial, that eventually was popular enough to make it back to Japan.
Really get's my goat that allot of people think G1 was an Anime. It was American, then it got imported to Japan.

Hino Recca ...Really get's my goat that allot of people think G1 was an Anime. It was American, then it got imported to Japan. Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess 'cause it's drawn kinda cheaply, just like GI Joe, Thundercats, and other various old American cartoons. Also, TF is about giant robots who turn in to cars, and that along with the cheap animation, I can sorta see why some people would mistake it for Anime, although people should realize it's not by now...
So yeah, America does TF the best in my opinion. Oh, and Canada did an awesome job as well (since they did Beast wars).

The age difference of the target audience makes all the difference. Regardless of it's origon, if a show is aimed at a younger audience, more attention is paid to the colors and artwork to be kid friendly. G1 may have been animated, but since it was not aimed solely at kids hyped up on sugar under the age of 10, it actually is a good show.
Despite semi-poor animation, and the 'Big Robot' genre feel of it, the show had a good plotline that has been revamped several times. In each TF show it is the same- try and adapt the origonal story to a new set of toys and age group. Each time they forget what a copying machine can tell you. Pay too little attention to what the origonal is, and the copy will be bad.
Just like in video games- no matter how good the control, or stupendous the graphics, if the story stinks, the game is inevitably doomed. That, IMHO, is why I care so much for Beast Wars/Machines. It did not take the old story through a blender, so much as it merely tried to evolve it. What would have happened after several millenia? That is more believeable than starting 'fresh' with the G1 plot sent through a blender.

With that point in mind, it's no wonder to me why G1 and Beast Wars are my two favorite.

Hi guys,
Wow, I never noticed this thread before eek ! I thought I was the only one who felt this way about the 'newer' Transformers animes, all with different universes gonk ! I'm so glad I'm not alone! Yeah, I don't like the 'blender' treatment either. I really liked Mainframe's approach to their series, taking bits of history from the old G1 series and expanding on it instead of re-inventing everything from scratch.
I must admit though that there are some series which I actually don't mind the new adaptations like all the animated X-Men series (i.e. X-Men and X-Men: Evolution), Spider-Man in all his incarnations, Batman, Superman, Superfriends/Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. For each of those, every interpretation was different, but the main roots were solid and weren't 'blenderized' like the anime Transformers.
I hope thise new Transformers series is like the latter bunch of new adaptations I mentioned.

Headmasters: Different take on the whole concept, Sixshot... Good. Masterforce: Feels more like a mecha anime, Overlord, Devil Z... Fair. Victory: Star Saber, original concepts... Great. Beast Wars II: Do I really need to say anything? Beast Wars Neos: Same as above. Car Robots: Prowl, Ultra Magnus... Awesome. Micron Legends: Superior to the english dub in terms of quility, Unicron... Great. Superlink: Had a certain episode... Great. Galaxy Force: Soundwave... Good.

I haven't actually watched a lot of the anime ones (yet. I plan on watching them just to have an honest opinion about them).
Although, I do remember watching some of RiD, and not particularly caring enough for it to force myself to wake up for it.
And I just started to lose interest in Armada. I found the first episode didn't take itself seriously.
But those are thoughts from damn near 10 years ago.
