((Note: This is technically currently a private RP between Hadrian and Irisa. However other Feien are welcome to RP actually joining in if they should so wish ^_^ ))

After Irisa had agreed that his suggestion about her learning to user her 'cold' side was a good idea - Hadrian went home feeling quite cheerful.
They would meet again, and bring candles and matches and things, and maybe they'd figure out how HE could learn magic. Besides he was more then happy to help Irisa learn her own magic...

And so it began...the very small "Association of Magical Experimentation and Discovery" .

At home, Irisa was reading from an encyclopedia about Rome that day. She still had no idea when her bond would return home, but time shouldn't be wasted. So she may as well prepare for her trip in the meanwhile with as much research and planning as she could.

At that point, the doorbell rang. Neither Fiona nor Vulpecula were in the house to receive it. It was cases like these that made Irisa glad that Oxygen had been in this house long before her. Thanks to that, much of the house was already custom-tailored to someone Irisa's size by her bond for Oxygen's sake. So it was a simple matter of hitting the door open button to let the person in.

...after checking through the periscope to see who was on the other end of the door, of course (wow, her bond certainly was very... paranoid).

"Hello, Hadrian." Irisa cheerfully smiled as the door opened to reveal the feien she was expecting any moment now. "It's nice to see you again. Please come in."

Hadrian blinked as to door opened and peered around Irisa at the inside.
"Wow"
It certainly was...different...from what he was used to. Hi-tek seemed to be her bond's solution to size differences - where Hadrian's house simply catered to two sizes. Small plates, small chairs here and there...no button for their front door - there was just a smaller door built into the bottom (with a lovely decorative door nob, and everything...and the fact that Hadrian had carved his name into it didn't seem to concern his bond...mom...whatever...at all.)
"I mean...its nice to see you too." He stepped inside, trying not to feel nervous and failing, "Do all the doors...ah...open like that?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 16, 2004 6:29 pm

"Pretty much." Irisa cheerfully replied as she pressed the button again, causing the door to close. "My bond had to install a lot of these devices for my fairy godmother long ago because she's about our size, so everything was ready by the time I was born. It's very convenient, although many of the lab rooms downstairs are password protected. The basement is right this way, by the way."

With that, she began to lead the other feien towards the basement door along the hall.

((has time to get a post in ^_^))

Hadrian followed Irisa, unable to help from staring around wide-eyed at the unfamiliar setting. Sure there were computers in his bond's house...but this was a whole different level.
But at least there was a unifying factor...labs always seemed to be in the basement. He wasn't allowed in the basement lab at HIS house...this would be really exciting!
With his enthusiasm growing, his courage to ask questions that were probably stupid diminished.
"How," he said, sounding really curious, "Do you 'password protect' a room? Is it some kind of spell?"

It was fortunate that feien could fly. Getting up and down stairs that were two times your size was easy when one could simply levitate over them. Her bond and Oxygen mentioned that there were mendels that were feien-sized who didn't have wings. To live in a human-sized world without flight... THAT must have made life quite the hassle.

"My bond doesn't believe in magic beyond the word itself being 'semantic nonsense'." Irisa remarked as she stopped in front of one of the doors in the long grey dark basement halls. "Although I wonder if he says that simply because he's frustrated that he doesn't have access to it. He claims that everything, even magic, has a scientific base behind it and must adhere to the scientific laws of the world."

Casually, the feien began punching in some numbers on a touch-tone number pad next to one of the doors.

"So everything here is locked with a series of automated doors and computers, some of which you have to type in a password into before they'll let you in. If there were any magical wards here, he'd probably be more interested in researching how they worked instead of using them." Irisa continued as the door automatically slid opened, revealing a lab room with vials, bunsen burners, various computers, blast shields for hiding behind in case of explosive experiments, and unopened boxes.

"If there is a scientific explanation for magic, I would like to find it someday." Irisa smiled. "I'm sure it would go a long way towards figuring out how to bring back magic to the world. Or, at the very least, it would help us a lot with figuring out how to cast spells."

Hadrain nodded mutely, still staring around. He took in...probably half of what Irisa explained - and the other half confused him a little to much to be worth pursueing just at the moment; he was far to interested in the contents of the room.
"Look at all this stuff!" He flitted around, peering at things, then stopped to spin around and belatedly reply to Irisa, "I don't know about 'science' at all...but I dunno if would help you know how to USE magic...necessarily."
PostPosted: Fri Nov 19, 2004 8:35 pm

"I'm not sure exactly how, either." Irisa remarked. "I suppose that's how learning by trial and error works. The blast shield could be useful if we manage to get behind it in time in case of us inadverdantly causing an explosion, at least."

She rummaged through the box until she took out some pieces of plastic outlined with rubber and with a rubber band for a strap.

"...I think these are supposed to be safety goggles that my bond made for my fairy godmother." Irisa remarked as she handed one to Hadrian. "They should protect our eyes from say, wayward sparks. Or, I hope they would."

Well, it should be adequate as far as Irisa could tell. At least there was nothing really explosive or flammable in this lab room that could go out of control. Irisa thought to herself a bit to make sure all the necessary precautions were taken. Still, she doubted that Hadrian would accidentally stumble upon something such as a nuclear spell. Far as Irisa could tell, Feien discovering their own magic typically wasn't THAT dramatic.

"Shall we begin?" Irisa smiled, as she took a small birthday candle out of another box. Wow, her bond really did set up this room specifically for someone feien-sized. She hoped he wasn't too dissappointed that her fairy god-mother never became the scientist he wanted. Or... secret agent he wanted, since Irisa heard him mention that too, once.

Hadrian turned the "safty goggles" over in his hands a few times, looking them over skeptically. His bond never wore anything like that.
Well...then again she burned herself alot when she worked in the forge...
He put the on and peered through them. They were uncomfortable, but manageable he supposed.
"How would we have time to get behind a shield if it was one of us accidentally causing the explosion?" He asked, sort of rhetorically, "Oh well. If we have matches, we could try what I suggested before - about you being warm and creating cold...or I guess it might work the other way around too...for me. Maybe if we had ice cubes or something? Or if you learn to make it cold first, then..." He shrugged.
It didn't occure to him that he might accidentally hurt Irisa if it was HER making it cold. He had a tendancy to not think too far ahead, when it came to these things. Probably why his bond didn't let him practice magic in the house.

"Hmm... well, there is a freezer in the room. It was mostly for 'preserving biological specimens' but it produces ice cubes just as well." Irisa remarked as she looked over at the freezer in the corner. "At the very least, both of us should have emergency reserves of our element if this starts to get out of hand."

She glanced at the candle, and mentally prepared herself for what was coming up. This was going to be rather unpleasant, butthey had everything they'd need in an emergency and the simple act of heat by itself shouldn't be too dangerous. After all, if feien needed their element around ALL the time, it would make life rather difficult for feien such as fire and ice feien, she imagined.

"Well, ice cubes don't last very long as a constant source of cold, so I suppose I'll try, first." she nodded, before handing Hadrian a match. "Please, go ahead and light it. I'll approach the candle from a distance to make sure there isn't any dangerous initial shock, and then we'll see what happens from there."

Hadrian nodded, "Here we go!", but he struck the match with more hesitance this time - no showy motion like before. He was obviously pleased to see the fire flicker at the end of the matchstick though - as though even the creation of his element made him feel a little bit of joy.
He lit the candle and put out the match, holding the candle out for Irisa to approach.

Irisa gradually walked towards the candle. Hmm... this... wasn't... that bad. It felt kind of stuffy but that was it. A couple steps more, a few more steps...

Well, it did at least confirm that it was just as she suspected. A large amount of discomfort mainly came from the sudden temperature change, and a gradual approach was much less hazardous to her well-being.

But still... nothing.

She was standing rather close to the candle, now. What was she supposed to do? Actually touch the flame at this rate? How... frustrating. The young feien turned to Hadrian and gave a confused shrug.

"Maybe if I try focusing really hard. Your suggestion was that I'd have to want cold, so I suppose I should focus on that." the young feien remarked, before closing her eyes. "I am thinking of a refrigerator. ...no, now I am thinking of the arctic. With penguins!"

...............still nothing?

Moments continued to pass. Irisa could sense that the whole experience was rather uncomfortable in general, but she wasn't feeling exactly SICK heresay. Still, she didn't want to drag this out for too long, lest she start suffering permanent ill effects. But there was still nothing.

"I am picturing waves of cold emanating from myself..." Irisa whispered. Well, from a scientific standpoint, it was hard to picture cold emanating from someone since cold was technically not a substance in and of itself so much as the lack of one, but all she really had to do was imagine blue waves coming from herself or so. Not that it seemed to be doing any good.

"Er... does it feel colder to you?" she curiously asked to Hadrian. Because it certainly wasn't feeling much colder to her.

Hadrian stiffled a giggle at the comment about penguins...he shouldn't laugh, Irisa was trying to concentrate.
He watched her close her eyes, and little lines of concentration form across her forehead. And he found himself feeling a kind of sympathetic tension - thinking 'come on, you can do it' over and over.
But...
Nothing...
"No...it doesn't." He answered her, sounding apologetic about having to admitt it. "Maybe..." He paused, trying to get things organised in his head.."Maybe its just not enough...you know? To small so you aren't really feeling too warm. What if...could we turn up the heat in the room somehow?"
He wasn't sure how you would do that, in this oddly hi-tech house...
PostPosted: Sat Nov 20, 2004 11:29 pm

Irisa stepped away from the candle. Well, going by the temperature that a human can withstand, a birthday candle wasn't exactly anywhere near dangerous. Still, she needed to regain her bearings a bit before trying to turn the heat up even higher.

Whew. It was nice to breathe the fresh air again. The... damn humid cold fresh basement air, that is.

"It was strange. My mind focused on wanting to exude cold, but... no other part of me did. Not that I have any idea where the cold is supposed to come from when one uses that spell." Irisa remarked. She had hopefully fortunately stopped herself from saying something that could be misconstrued as vulgar such as "which body part" or so.

With that, she flittered over to a dial on the wall.

"I think this is heat control. I'll try turning it up." she commented, before looking back at Hadrian. "Out of curiousity, did you feel anything different with and without the birthday candle?"

"I..." He looked at the candle and thought about it. "Yeah, more comfortable I guess. Its like the atmosphere changes slightly. And it makes me happy." He smiled at Irisa from across the room.
"You know," This was alot of thinking for Hadrian in one go, Irisa made him feel like he had to work to keep up with her, "Before, you used a spell...when I lit the match, without thinking. Maybe its not you...er...you MIND that needs to want to be cold?"
He tilted his head to the side, "Or maybe not. I dunno. I guess when I do anything with fire its my mind that's thinking about it and making it work. I never considered it before."
The room started to warm up, although Hadrian didn't really conciously notice - it just started to feel more comfortable then the damp cool basement air did.
