{This is my last try for trying to create a roleplay. If this doesn't work out, consider my roleplays gone. I'll just join other people's roleplays. This is
a~ Not a cry for attention.
b~ Not a cry for pity.
c~ Not in any way going to affect my activeness.
d~ My last try.}
"So you wish to know my story, eh? You're not going to believe most of it, but all of it is true. It starts when King Jax posted rewards for bringing him the head of any dragon. All able-bodied men started grabbing their swords, their pitchforks, anything they could find, and going to search through the Dragon Mountain range where dragons of all shapes and sizes can be found. I was one of those young men with a sword at my side and money in my head. What I didn't know at the time was that I was on the wrong side. The dragons hadn't done anything wrong and needed to be preserved to keep the human race alive. I almost realized that too late...."

Plot~

Hartlam has lived in harmony with all sorts of magical creatures for many hundreds of years with almost no disputes or problems of any kind. Until one day, a dragon accidentally killed a man when hunting for food. That man was the current king's father, and Jax wants revenge. He has this twisted idea that all of the dragons were in on his father's killing and plan to kill many more humans, including himself. And not only are the dragons in on this, but so are many other magical creatures who are being watched closely, but not hunted, yet.
There are those humans that agree fully with the king and want to rid the world of dragons, but there are those that know the dragons have done no wrong and have realized that the fate of dragons is linked with that of the humans. If the dragons die, the humans will also.
These humans, dubbed dragonsavers, decided they needed to find the dragons and warn them, perhaps requesting to become a dragon rider. To speak to them, though, they needed a dragon stone. Some found theirs, others bargained for them and still yet others created them or mined them themselves. They were deteremined to save the dragons.

The dragonslayers are hunting down the dragons, whilst the dragons are convening, if a bit reluctantly, to find out what to do about the dragonslayers. The dragonsavers are searching for the dragons so that they might help them find a way to defeat the dragonslayers. Fights will ensue, blood will be shed, tempers will be lost and actions forgiven.

Important! Read this!

There will be plot developments along the way. Watch for violet bold lettering with plot updates on it.

Types of Dragons~

Water
Water dragons live mostly in the water, but they all have wings and can fly to some extent and the ones with feet can go on the earth, though not as fast as the earth dragons. Even those with snake-like bodies can slither across the earth. Some look just like a normal dragon: with four feet, two wings and a muscular build but with webbed feet. Others can look more like a serpent: with no feet, wings for propelling them through the water and a long snake-like body. These dragons can control water, but mostly by jetting it from their mouths or drawing water from the ground. Coloring varies from blues to purples to greens. The water dragon can be spoken to using a sapphire.
Earth
These dragons have no wings at all and are permanently grounded with large bodies. Other than that, they looked just like a normal dragon and are incredibly fast over land. They can enter water, but aren't fast swimmers. They can control earth, mostly by sensing vibrations in the ground, shooting vines from their mouth or claws or by kicking the ground and sending vibrations. Coloring is normally earthy colors. A catseye stone can be used to talk to these dragons.
Air
Air dragons are normally very skinny and lithe with huge wings that give them extraordinary speed in the air. Some have no feet like a snake and others look like very skinny four-footed dragons. They can land on the ground and swim, but not as fast as the earth and water dragons. They control air such as sending winds to fill human sails or hearing things on the wind or jetting wind out of their mouth. Coloring is normally blue, white or silvery gray. A diamond is used to talk to these dragons.
Fire
Most of the time, these dragons are built muscularly and powerful but cannot swim. They can fly and go on the ground, but not nearly so fast as air or earth dragons. Their wings are not large but they look like normal dragons with four clawed feet, two wings, and a tail. The neck is kind of shorter while all the other dragons have longer necks. These dragons can control fire such as breathing it, the only dragons that can, finding hot spots, and can withstand heat. Coloring is normally reds, oranges and yellows, sometimes being mixed together like fire. A ruby is this dragon's dragon stone.
ELEMENTALS
These dragons are the most powerful in the world. They are a mixture of all four types of dragons and can do anything that those dragons can do. Beware....some of their powers are uncontrollable and only older Elementals can control their powers. There are only two known Elementals in existance: The Queen of Dragons and her son. These dragons have all different colored scales, red, orange, black, brown, green, white, blue, gray, all mixed into one colorful rainbow. Any stone can be used to talk to them. (IMPORTANT!!! IF YOU SEND ME AN APPLICATION FOR AN ELEMENTAL THEY NEED FLAWS. I MIGHT CHOOSE NOT TO ACCEPT SOME APPLICATIONS AS WE CANNOT HAVE A DOZEN POWERFUL DRAGONS RUNNING AROUND. I AM GOING TO BE PLAYING ONE: THE SON OF THE QUEEN. I WILL BE PLAYING THE QUEEN BUT ONLY AS AN NPC. I WILL ONLY ACCEPT UP TO THREE OTHER ELEMENTALS.)

Rules~

1~ Follow normal Gaia rules, always!
2~ Please stick with the guidelines and the plot.
3~ PM me your application, but do not just send me your application and then after I accept it never post again. That makes me angry, and we don't want to make me angry. ^^
4~ I want activity, but I can not get on every single second of the day. I ask that if I do get a lot of people to join that you try not to post too rapidly so when I come back from whatever I don't have a million posts to read.
5~ Dragonslayers: you may have dragon stones, or steal them, but only with my permission. You also cannot kill the dragons without the owner's permission or wound them a lot. They are huge and covered with thick scales; it takes a lot to penetrate the skin. Also, no powerplaying there. Have your characters be a little afraid, these are huge dragons with teeth and claws that could crush you!
6~ Dragonsavers: You must ask a dragon before becoming a dragon rider if you wish to do so.
7~ Have fun and keep active!
8~ Put the name of this board as the title to your PM to me. Before putting your application, put what you will be playing: dragon, dragonslayer, or dragonsaver.

Accepted Applications~

Dragons
gaianame: angelkely121
Name: Crimson
Age: 242
Gender: Female
Type of Dragon: Fire
Appearance: Crimson is the color of her name: a fiery red fire dragon with huge interlocking scales. Being a fire dragon, she is built powerfully, more so than other kind of dragons, and also larger. She isn't too bulky, for most of it is muscle, but her size prevents her from flying too fast or manuevering quickly in the air. At about 70 feet in length and another 10 feet or so in width, her cave home is only just big enough to accomidate her huge size. Her wings are large, not as big porportionally as an air dragon's, but large enough to get her off the ground and keep her in the air. Her head is long and angular with two horns coming out of the back of her head and a row of spikes webbed together going from her head to her long, sharp-tipped tail. Crimson
History: Crimson once lived with the fire dragon clan and was an expert hunter in it. That was, before the hunt. Fire dragons were and are so arrogant and cocky that they thought they could remain in their volcanoe home and be safe from slaughter. But the humans were smart. They would lure the dragons out with food and then quickly kill them, not caring whether or not they lost a few other humans in the process. Crimson witnessed one of these massacres where her parents and entire family was killed. They hadn't been clever enough to know that the humans couldn't fly, so had remained on the ground and mostly forgotten about their flames and had been killed.
After they killed her family, they tried to lure her and some of the younger dragons out, but they were smarter than their supposedly 'wiser' family. Since Crimson was the oldest, they looked to her for guidance and she gave it to them. She knew that the humans could not fly, so she guided the younger dragons out from the tip of the volcanoe. The ones that could flame flew lower with her and they let out a huge stream of fire, burning every human in sight. Of course, a few arrows pierced their wings, but those quickly healed. They hid in the Dragon Mountains, Crimson becoming a loner but sometimes checking on the other, younger fire dragons.
Personality: Crimson is incredibly clever and quick-thinking with a fierce sense of pride and protection over the remaining fire dragons. She has a fierce temper that she finds it hard to restrain sometimes, but she sometimes manages to. More to come.
Other: Crimson's fire is so hot that it can evaporate an entire lake if she wanted to. Also, she hates humans with the firey passion that most fire dragons have for something, but if one has a dragon stone she might talk to them if they have no weapons on them. Her hearing is excellent also, but has limits.

gaianame: angelkely121
Name: Camillon
Age: 92
Gender: Male
Type of Dragon: Elemental
Appearance: http://ewancient.lysator.liu.se/pic/art/a/h/ahkahna/rainbow.jpg
History: Camillon was born to the Queen of Dragons, Charisma, and an Earth male dragon, Monte. From day one, he was different from both his father and mother in the sense that
a~ he was an Elemental dragon like his mother
b~ but he had no wings like he was supposed to.
Instead, Camillon had strange curled appendages that turned out to be like whips. He could still fly, he just has no wings to do so. Something magical allows him to lift into the air. He has always been clumsy, tripping over his too big feet and breathing fire accidentally on his mother or father. But when he was a bit older, he found out that his curled appendages could uncurl and help him move faster in the water, on land or in the air. After this discovery was about the time that the dragon hunters came into the light. His father was killed by a dragon hunter while he was still young and he, like so many others, vowed revenge. He has tried to work on his powers and abilities, but still is very clumsy and has trouble with some...things.
Personality: Camillon is a strong-headed young dragon who thinks that he can do just about anything if he puts his mind to it. He gets embarrassed easily though and is still a young, playful dragon. More to develop.
Other: More flaws will develop.

gaianame: Tipsy Cleavage Penguin
Name: Saes Srece
Age: 439
Gender: Male
Type of Dragon: Water
Appearance: Saes is a truly magistic creature. He has a 40 foot long body, covered mainly with long, turquoise scales, but his finer points are adorned with shimmering silver. His face is rather wizened, yet still bares a kind demeanor, granted by his long service in the Oceani Aquari. Saes, like most species of Ocean Dragon, has no limbs. However, he does have A huge tail fin and several fins along his body, most of hich have sharp edges to be used in combat. Lining the side of his head is a huge frilled-neck, not unlike the Frill-neck Lizard. Usually he keeps it closed, unless he is defending against an attack. When faced with an attack, he will either slice at the foe with his many fins, including his tail fin, or he will spurt jets of freezing cold air from his nostrils and mouth.
Saes has large, folding wings wchi have tattered slightly with age, but he rarely uses them to fly. His draconic magic keeps him in the air, the wings are usually just for steering, or for a quick retreat in combat.
History: Saes is a wise and noble creature. For several centuries he was involved in the Oceani Aquari, a counsel of sentient ocean creatures who ensured the protection and survival of all ocean species and races. He eventually became the most powerful of these counsel members, and rose to the rank of Grand Sentinel. However, not long after his pormotion he was forced to resign, as his physical abilities had deteriorated with age. The position was passed to his best friend Nosaya the Kraken, of whom he still keeps in touch and sometimes calls to his aid.
Personality: Saes is a kind-hearted elderly dragon. Despite his age, he is still able to take care of many foes, and so become angry and irritable when others question his ability. He is still powerful, but not even close to as powerful as his near-godlike younger self. He enjoys just floating among the cool clouds when he does not have matters to attend to, and many tribal human settlements have cherished the days when they see his magnificent shape in the sky, his millions of scales beautifully reflecting the suns rays in a shimmering blue aura.
Saes still follows the no-land rule of the

Gaianame: Panthera_Enigma
Name: Meythioon Hrran-tra
Age: 827
Gender: Male
Type of Dragon: Earth
Appearance: Merythioon is actually a lot sleeker than his other land bound cousins and has slightly bigger claws, for he has altered his body over the hundreds of years so he can burrow underground as fast as he walks. His green colour is mixed with browns and deep reds, the colours of the earth in the mountains. His eyes glow softly in the night and look something like cats eyes.
History:
Personality: Merythioon is somewhat eccentric for a dragon and has a very, very small hoard, which is contained in a small pouch around his neck, which is almost invisible to the naked eye. He likes to scoure the earth for things to look at, while trying to find older dragon spells. He has, in all honesty, become something of a draconic spell expert and has long forgotten how to fight properly.
Other: Merythioon (Mer-ith-ee-oon) has a large collection of spells etched into his memory, most of them one time use spells. There are a few he knows that he uses all the time, but has a few nasty surprises for nastier unfriendly people.

gaianame: Kagenoku
Name: Tean Kestral
Age: 372
Gender: Male
Type of Dragon: Air.
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/Kagenoku/silverdragon.jpg
History: Lived the happy life until one day a close friend was slain by dragonslayers, and now mostly resides in seclusion from most anyone, he lives in a small cave in the top of a mountain above the clouds. He does not want to become close to anyone lest what happened to his friend befall them.
Personality: He is almost overly fearful of humans, as being that a close friend was killed by dragonslayers. He mostly keeps to himself and enjoys the thrills of the upper atmosphere and feeling the wind beneath his wings.
Other: Most of the time when approached flys away, quickly.

Dragonsavers
Gaianame: Padrona-dei-Polli
Name: Farren
Age: 78
Gender: Female
Race: Pegasus
Type of dragon stone they carry, if any: Diamond (given to her by the dragons)
Appearance:
Human Form
Pegasus Form
History: Devika and Farren were not born humans, but pegasi. Pegasi (What are left of them) live side by side with humans and dragons, often not taking their Pegasus form for many years. However, Farren and Devika grew up amongst the dragons, and so spent much of their time in Pegasus form. It is only in the last few years that they have spent with humans, and now they want to help their dragon friends from being exterminated. And if the dragons are wiped out, it will be the end of their own kind as well.
Personality: Farren is a little more extroverted than her twin sister, but is by no means outgoing. She is reserved but can also be cheerful. Kind and generous, and is not selfish or rude. Spends all her time with her twin sister.
Other: Devika and Farren are twins. When in their natural form, Devika and Farren use telepathy to communicate, although they can also use telepathy in human form. Their magic is mainly air and water orientated, Farren specialising more in air, and Devika with water, and when they use their magic together it is much more powerful than when separate, but to do this they must be in their natural form.

Gaianame: Mistress-of-the-Chickens

Personality: Devika is quiet and withdrawn, following leads where they are given. She is happy to go her own way, or work in a group. But always with her sister around. They're very close. Like most Pegasi, she is very kind, and nature orientated. Devika is not merciful by nature, but not uncaring either. She pities people to be precise. She is joyful but can occasionally come across as stuck up.

Dragonslayers
gaianame: angelkely121
Name: Lily
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Type of weapon they carry: She carries a short but powerful sword, it wielded correctly and forged by a wizard.
Appearance: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/581/syria6hm.gif
History: Lily was born to a strictly religious family who raised her to believe that all dragons are demons sent from hell to destroy humankind and they must be destroyed themselves. She picked up a sword when she was only 4 and her father, a dragonslayer himself, taught her the ways of the sword and ways to kill and deceive a dragon. One day, he took her with him on a dragon hunt to kill a rather large dragon spotted in the area. He took a couple of mortal wounds, but so did the dragon. Suddenly, the dragon saw an advantage and sliced right through her father's armor with a claw and killed him. Lily was so enraged that she stabbed the dragon through the heart and hacked its body into little pieces just to be sure that it would not rise again. From that day, she has devoted her life to hunting and killing dragons.
Personality: Lily never says anything to anyone, at least no humans. To her horse, http://www.horsedata.co.uk/GeeGees/Breeds/friesian2.jpg, she talks all the time and she even believes he might just understand her. She has a fierce and unquenchable temper and has trained herself to be numb to pain so that even if she is mortally wounded, she will try to finish whatever dragon she is fighting.
Other:--

gaianame: Dema
Name: Enodia Herne
Gender: F
Type of weapon they carry: A bow, knives, and a long sword.
Appearance: Shortly cropped black hair over tan shoulders. Has deep green eyes, almost black. Wears deer antlers and has a long scar that runs down her neck. If it goes further, it is covered by her leather shirt. Wears a brooch with the insignia of the Royal Family on it.
History: Herne's past is shrouded in mystery and myth. Some say she's the b*****d daughter of the King, abandoned in the woods to die as a babe, instead raised by the wild. Other say she's a nymph who lost her tree, a werewolf who killed her husband and child, or an old forgotten goddess. The current favorite is that she's a ghost of a royal huntsman, charged to protect a young prince. Under her care, he was mortally wounded by a white hart. Guilt ridden, she sold her soul to save his life. Now, as a spirit, she haunts the woods, always ready to protect the Royal Family.

Whoever or whatever she is, shortly after the proclamation was given out, Herne appeared at the castle door bearing the heads of four dragons and the brooch bearing the insignia of the Royal Family. She was immediately given a private audience with the King, and was seen shortly after heading out, wearing a necklace of scales.
Personality: Unknown. The few times she's seen no one is brave enough to address her. To learn anything about her, you'd probably have to talk to King Jax.
Other: Always has two black dogs at her side along with a horned owl.

gaianame: Panthera_Enigma
Name: Ryn
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Type of weapon they carry: Fullblade with a cats-eye embedded in it and composite longbow (Both enchanted to resist magic)
Appearance: Ryn is a massive human, due to his very odd heritage. His grandfathers were an orc and a minotaur, one grandmother elf and the other human. His parents were an orc-elf cross-breed and a half-minotaur, so he is quarter of each race, making him long lived and very, very ugly. His face has a dark green tinge to is and he has stubby horns on his head and large front teeth. He stands just under 8 foot tall and 3 1/2 feet at the shoulder. He wears full plate armour which is enchanted to look like normal travelling clothes and a long, flowing cloak. Both the armour and the cloak are enchanted to be silent and radiate silence on command and to resist dragons breath.
History: Ryn, being brutal by nature and brutal by parents, was raised with cruelty and brutality. He killed his parents at the age of 15 with his fathers sword and took his mothers bow. He wandered the paths of the world and once saw a dragon hunting a buck. He watched in fascination and then jealousy, that, a creature that large and, to him, hideous, could move with such grace and in such a way to make it beautiful regardless of who was looking at it. He then started feeling a hatred towards dragons and their perceived beauty that he felt that he needed to remove them.
Personality: Ryn is loud and annoying, except when he's hunting. He doesn't like company, for all people are more beautiful than him, but he suffers with company like Loraya, who he finds intriguing.
Other: N/A

gaianame: Panthera_Enigma
Name: Loraya
Age: 45
Gender: Female
Type of weapon they carry: Enchanted halberd, throwing daggers, blowpipe, poisons, short composite bow, pair of enchanted short swords.
Appearance: Loraya is 5'8" half-elf with platinum blonde hair to her waist in a loose plait. She wears skin tight black leather over her thin frame, ending at shoulders and ankles. Her dark grey cloak hides most of her equipment from the casual observer, while her multiple throwing daggers line her legs, her quiver is tied to her belt and her short swords hang near the quiver. Her bow goes on the outside of her cloak while the blowpipe and poisons reside in a small bag on her back, next to her halberd. Her face is fairly pretty for a human, seeing as she is half elf.
History: Loraya's history is kept to herself and no-one else. She doesn't like to talk about what has happened but when asked why she hunts dragons, she always replies with a quick smile and the words 'I like the challenge'. Her real reason is to search out dragons treasure to make her richer and to give her the chance to get better weapons.
Personality: Loraya inherited none of the elven demeanour and all of the vile human personality traits. She is cruel and capricious, caring very little for anyone else. She is immensely self-centred and when asked to do anything her response is to throw a dagger at them.
Other: Loraya's halberd is enchanted threefold. The first enchantment makes it able to fold down to a quarter of its size. The second is that it is incredibly light weight, weighing less than a kilo. The third enchantment makes it super sharp, so that it slices through anything.
Her swords are nick-named Heartburn and Frostbite. One is enchanted with fire magic and the other with frost magic.
Finally, Loraya knows a little magic, which she learnt from a paid magician. Well, threatened, then paid. Loraya knows how to shift herself through shadows, vanishing and reappearing in another. She also knows how to transfer herself to the shadowplane and back again. Finally, she knows how to manipulate light and creatures of shadow.

ooc~ Please use some form of out of character! And I will allow dragons and dragonsavers still, but we do need dragonslayers.
Let's Start This Roleplay!

BIC~ A large shadow passed close over the mountain, blocking out the sun momentarily for some of those on the ground. The shadow continued to grow until the being that made the shadow landed on the ledge of the mountain which was a part of the Dragon Mountain range. Long hooked talons grasped the rocky edge and held her bulk steady as her leg muscles worked to get her into the nearby large cave entrance. Her translucent wings folded against her large crimson scales, the sun glancing off of some of them before the huge being disappeared into the cave. It stank of smoke, burnt meat and dung, but no one ever said fire dragons were clean.

Crimson grunted and shuffled as she turned her bulk around so that her long angular head with a buck in between her teeth was facing the entrance and her tail was curled about her huge frame. She lifted her head suddenly, the cave just tall enough so that she didn't smash her skull on the ceiling, and swallowed the buck whole. Smoke curled out of her nostrils as the meat cooked in her hot belly and she gave a large belch, the two deer horns flying out of her throat and smashing against the wall. Sastified, she lay her fiery red head down and closed her ruby colored eyes, settling into a deep sleep.

No sooner had she fallen asleep than a mindshout came, shattering any dreams or thoughts of sleep she might have had.

All dragons: Fire, Air, Water, Earth! Be at Dragonfen Lake when the sun reaches the highest point in the sky! If you do not...Then you will have no protection or help against the Dragonslayers from any other dragons.

Crimson thought a moment about the telepathic message, guessing it came from the Queen of Dragons who didn't actually rule them, they were independent souls, but whose job it was to warn them about certain things and organize everything. She grumbled something to herself about sleeping, then lumbered to the cave entrance to look at the sun. It would be midday soon, the time when the sun was at it's highest point, and she didn't want to be late. Even prideful Fire dragons knew that a group of Dragonslayers could not be faced alone.

She fanned her wings once, twice, then crouched low to the ground, legs coiled to spring. With one mighty heave that left a new pair of gauge marks on the ledge, she lifted off into the air and soared towards Dragonfen Lake. Time to discuss the slayer problem.

Merythioon tunneled through the rock almost as if it wasn't there. He'd recently discovered a new spell, one that he knew he could cast several more times before it left his mind. It would be useful against arrows from the humans.

Tunneling towards where he hoped there was more magic to learn, Merythioon recieved the telepathic summons.

Sighing lightly to himself while muttering about it being the right time to look at this place and treasures that would have to wait for another hundred years, he turned and dug deeper into the mountains.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ryn swung his sword, smashing into a wooden dummy. The head went flying and rolled into the foot of one of the groundsmen. He glared at the dummy, the head then the groundsman before leaving the training grounds, sword in hand.
As he stepped onto the street, he felt a tingling from his sword. Glancing at it, he noticed that the catseye was starting to glow faintly. He touched it and recieved the telepathic message from the dragon queen. Grinning, he went to the inn where he knew Loraya would be.
The woman was indeed at the inn, mostly entertainting herself throwing daggers at the dartboard. A small pile of coins sat on the table in front of her, a sure sign that she had scammed someone into thinking they could have won.
The door opened and Ryn looked at Loraya, who scooped up her coins, retrieved her daggers and left without a word, following Ryn out of the town towards the mountains.
As they exited the town, Ryn spoke. "Dragons are meeting at Dragonfen Lake at midday. We're heading there."
"Ryn," Loraya said. "It's a three day hike there."
He shrugged and continued walking, a slightly annoyed Loraya trailing behind.
After a few moments of Ryn's powerful steps, she growled and ran up to his side. "Fine, I'm assuming you want me to shift us."
Ryn held his hand out, which Loraya took. They vanished from the sight of an astounded peasant.
Farren and Devika were at Dragonfen Lake, having been invited to the dragonmeet as honourary guests. Farren was currently in her natural form, flying over the lake, her wings skimming the surface as she played. Her twin was somewhere nearby; she could feel her presence. She landed to take a drink, thirsty after her escapades.
Sister, where are you? she called telepathically, not seeing her. The dragonmeet is going to start soon, and we'll be able to see Merythioon! she added, referring to one of the twins oldest dragon friends.
Waiting for her sister to return, she flew into the air again, to stretch her wings. The air over the lake was warm, and perfect for gliding.
Tean heard the summons to go to Dragonfen Lake. He hesitantly left his secluded mountain cave, where he spent almost the entire last year. Every year this reminded him of the year that his friend was slain, and he was the only one close enough to aid him, and Tean wasn't strong enough to save him. Sailing above the clouds, he contemplates the treasure he left back in the cave, and how it might get lonely without him these few days. He soon forgets that as he dives below the clouds making sure he is on the right path, and hasn't passed it over. "Soon, just a few more hours flying and I will arrive." he thinks to himself.
A young man burst into a crowded tavern, proudly wielding a rusty pitchfork. He looked around for a moment before his eyes latched onto a large party sitting at a table, some covered in blood, one wearing a dragon scale around his neck.
He eagerly bounced up to the man with the dragon scale, nearly shaking with excitement. "I'd like to join your party and help destroy the dragon menace!"
The group looked up with him with deeply creased faces, lines aging otherwise young faces. The man with the dragon scale necklace took a swig of his beer. "You can't," he said, glancing at the kid over the rim of his drink.
"I want to help," the boy said stubbornly, crossing his arms. "I want to defend the Kingdom. Do you fight dragons?'
"Not anymore," the grizzled adventurer said, looking down at his empty mug, turning it a little, "go home son. There's nothing for you here."
The lad's eyes widened, his pitchfork falling to his side. "What happened to all the dragons?" he asked, moving in closer, "I thought there were dozens here, planning to attack the kingdom. Have we just given up?"
The older man snorted into his beard. "No," he said, setting his mug down with a forceful thump, "there just aren't any left. Not in this neck of the woods."
"What?" the young man gasped, "how?"
"The b***h huntress," the leader said, his eyes glinting hard in the low light, "she killed them. Most of them anyways. We'd pull in maybe one head a week, and she'd bring in eight."
"Impossible," the lad scoffed, taking a seat, "no human could do that."
"That's what I'm saying kid," the adventurer said, his crew nodding in agreement, "she ain't human. We saw her fight one. Our priestess, Jyn, had just been killed by one of those damned monsters, and we were retreating as fast as possible. It was a big, nasty thing, but after fighting it for a few hours we knew its weaknesses, how to kill it. Figured we'd come back the next day with a new cleric and finish the job. And then she showed up. The dragon fought back, nearly bit her arm off, but she just kept coming. Stabbed it to death with her other one. If the beast had torn that off, she would have head-butted it to death. Scariest thing I ever-"
The room fell deathly still, the only sound the door swinging shut and the click of dog nails against the wooden floor. A woman with a hood entered, dressed completely in brown and green leather. On her chest, a brooch with the insignia of the Royal Family burned like a falling star.
She walked up to the bar, seemingly unaware of the awefilled silence she left in her wake. The tavern keeper scurried up to her, sweat dotting his forehead.
"What can I get for you?" he asked, his voice breaking though he tried to sound cheery. He rubbed a mug with a cloth so hard it was a wonder the cup didn't break.
The huntress looked at a slim bottle of wine, which the man hastily fetched. "Good choice m'lady, excellent choice," he chattered, plunking it down on the bar. The hooded woman placed a few coins on the table, grabbed the bottle and made for the door, leaving an extremely relieved bartender behind.
A pitchfork slammed in front of her, directly between her and the door. The huntress turned and looked at the young man attached to it. One of her dogs growled, but was silenced by her hand on his head.
"Go back to hell," the boy snarled, his eyes dark and narrow. A baby began to cry, the mother frantically trying to shush it.
The hooded woman pushed the pitchfork aside and made towards the door once more. Again, the pitchfork fell like a drawbridge, neatly blocking her path.
"I'm talking to you!" the lad spat, her inaction making him bold, "And I'm telling you to go back to whatever hell hole you crawled out of! Let us take care of these monsters; you've been hogging all the glory!"
The huntress stood motionless for a moment. Then, with one smooth move, she pulled the weapon from the young man and hurled it at a spot just over his left shoulder, his hair waving as it flew by. It sank deep into the doorframe, its prongs no longer visible, lost in the wood.
The boy backed up, his hands in the air and palms upturned. "I'm sorry, so sorry, sorry sorry sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry sorry sorry..." he babbled, the words slurring together into a meaningless chant as he backed away.
She regarded him for a moment, then turned to the party the lad had been sitting with. Her eyes fell on the leader, moving to his empty mug. The huntress uncorked her bottle and poured the wine into the grizzled adventurer's cup, filling it to the brim. For the last time, she made for the door, passing the pitchfork without looking at it.
Then she was gone.
The world looked washed out to Ryn as he walked through the shadowplane, a hand resting on Loraya's shoulder. The scenery whizzed past as they walked at a brisk pace.
The shadowplane was like living in the darkness of pre-dawn. Just enough light to see by, but not enough to let colours show. One of the few things that unnerved Ry was the fact that if he let go of Loraya's shoulder, he wouldn't likely be able to get back out of the shadowplanes.
Loraya grinned as his sensed discomfort, knowing the power she has over the massive warrior.
The earth bucked and flew apart, upsetting a dragon as Merythioon practically ran out of the earth and onto the bank of the Dragonfen lake. Appologising to the dragon, Merythioon went to the lake and filled up his system. It had been a while since he'd refreshed himself after all.
Crimson's wingbeats slowed as she began her slow spiral descent to the earth, red scales glowing in the high sun. She hated the water, but the hunters were no small deal; they needed to be dealt with and fast, before anymore dragons were killed. She needed to be here the most, since she was in charge of protecting the remaining fire dragons and because she wanted revenge. With a huge thump, she landed on the edge of the lake where already, dragons of all shapes and sizes had gathered, talking in low growling murmurs. Crimson, she just settled her bulk into a comfortable position, but one that was easy enough to spring up from, and closed her eyes. Her ears slowly tuned out all dragon noise and began to listen to the forest, hearing sounds ever farther away until she could hear no more. Her hearing spanned several miles, so if any dragonhunters or human came near, the dragons would have ample warning to run or fight or devise some kind of plan.
She opened one eye to watch the Queen of Dragons, a huge dragon with all mixture of different colored scales over her sleek hide. She was large bone like a fire dragon with the same angular head, but sleek and lithe like an Air dragon with huge wings. Her clawed feet also had webs for swimming and her feet were also very large for fast ground travel. There was a reason she was Queen of the Dragons: She was an Elemental, a dragon with the powers of all the elemental dragons combined into one. Firebreathing, breathing under water, moving fast over land and air. She was the only one left. Except of course for her son, Camillon.
"Hello Crimson," the queen said softly, watching the dragons. Crimson just nodded and went back to listening.
Devika was having the time of her life, running and prancing, fluttering up and floating down. She was at Dragonfen Lake, and was watching all the dragons arrive. It happened often, and never ceased to amaze her how many turned up. I'm here, sister, about to go and land on Merithoon, she called, and spotted Merithoon out of the crowded banks. Angling her wings just so, she spilt air from underneath and divebombed next to him, spraying dirt all over his old dragon face.
Tean floated down and perched himself on the outside of the group of dragons. "There are not as many as last year... Is this meeting going to really help end the problem? There seem to be more and more dragonslayers out there, while our numbers contenually decrease." He muttered to himself. He stared out across the gathered dragons looking at the size. "And can we really trust those humans...", he muttered under his breath.
