Manga definately the manga. The anime is ok but the manga is definately better.

I havn't read the manga, but I've seen the anime. I'd suggest the manga as well. From what I've heard they go more in depth with the story, do they not? (Most manga goes more in depth than the anime.) Although the anime cuts out all the blood. Whenever they kill a demon it just shows them exploding into a bunch of triangles.
But it is rather good.

I haven't seen the show or read the manga, but I've heard quite a bit of raving about Saiyuki, all of it good.

Yes. YESYESYESYESYES. It's an awesome series, my personal favorite. And both the anime and the manga are good, in my opinion. heart

The manga, it's more in depth.

Also, I suggest you read the original "Journey Into The West".

Helps you figure out what goes on. pirate

Manga is great....the artwork is awesome and the story is more detailed.

But the anime's got a really nice seiyuu work.

OK, I own all the Saiyuki anime and started to get the manga (I purchased thru vol 5) and found the manga I had bought was followed SO closely (at least thru what I read) by the anime, I saw no need to have both and stopped getting the manga. This series never really "concludes" in the first 12 disks of Saiyuki, but continues in Saiyuki Reload (which I am now having to buy as well)
I will say this, I recomend it, I think it is a great story that just about anyone can like as it has a lot of comedic and action and dramatic moments all in it for every taste, but I watched the first 12 disks in English and loved the voices and yet, unfortunatly, someone else did the dub work for Reload and I can't STAND to hear all their voices change after being very well used to them, so I switched over to watching Reload in Japanese with Subs. Even with thta, I still recomend it.

I absolutly love the manga. Go get it, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I haven't seen the anime though. Is it worth watching?

For the manga, doesn't it seem like the new volumes are coming out VERY SLOWLY?

I think the author keeps getting hesitant about which one to produce first :Gaiden or Reload. or Offroad.

If you choose the anime, be prepared to spend a lot of money on it. It's a looong series.
I only have volume one of the manga, but I have all twelve volumes of the first part of the anime. I still need "reload" and "gaiden", though. gonk
