I'm a relatively new fan. I've seen all of the 2005+ series, but when I joined here I was swamped with people who had information I'd previously not heard of. I wasn't born until after the end of the previous Dr. Who series, so I feel really left out. Sure, I could just go read for hours on wikipedia, but even that gets boring @_@

So for those of you who say you prefer Doctors 1 through 8, how did you find the episodes?

I used to borrow a lot of them on video from my local library. My mother also used to buy quite a few of them. However, this is trickier now that VHS has largely been phased out. Still, you can probably find a few second hand if you know where to look, and they've been re-releasing them on DVD as well. Also, if you have UKTVgold then I believe they sometimes re-run old episodes.

It is a bit hard if you know nothing about the Classic series to know where to start. I was born after it finished too (well... between Doctors 7 and 8 actually) so most of the stuff I know off my parents or through sci fi groups I joined.

I'd say that if you want to know more, just ask questions here! Most classic series fans on the Guild don't know EVERYTHING about Doctors 1-8 themselves but there's at least one fan for each Doctor hanging around and I'm sure they'd gladly rant on about them for ages if you ask. I know I would.

The other thing is to check out the Classic Series subforum. I know that 1-4 at least have their own threads there, I might start up some for 5-8 as well since we have people interested.

As far as actually finding episodes to watch... well mine's a mix of DVDs off Amazon and... um... the way we aren't supposed to talk of here. Though I know there are some on YouTube as well.

I saw the majority of them when the ABC decided to air them, but that was quite a while ago... and I missed a fair few of them.

Your best bet is probably online, you can even get a couple of box sets I think. They don't go out of their way to make it easy for collecting Whovians... I wish you could just buy a box set of each Doctor. But noo.

Otherwise... a DVD shop would have a few, and you can probably order them in from there, or a video rental store would probably have a couple.

Ah, also... well the UK has BBC, I have ABC, Canada has CBC, so wherever you are, you could probably go to one of those stores and get some or have them ordered in.

And if you're in an area with a Sci-fi shop or something, they'd have them. Hahah wish I had one of those near me... sweatdrop

You might even find some online, legal or illegal, I dunno. That's all I can suggest.

Personally, I'm wicked lazy. So I just use Youtube. I know it's kinda illegal, but...

Except I'm too lazy to even sit through one of the old episodes. I swear, were they worried people would just totally lose them if they went any faster?

Maybe I ought to try watching one of the not-so-ancient ones...

Chapters is the only place I can find in Canada that sells them, and non of the non-cable channels are airing classic episodes (or have since I was a young child, I can't speak for the cable channels) so, if you're in the great white north Chapters, Amazon, or the illegal way are probably your best bet.

I saw the classic series when PBS was airing it in NC twice a day plus on Saturdays. whee I taped a bunch of the episodes, but our reception out in the mountains was iffy, & those old tapes are likely beginning to degenerate (which makes me sad because my friends used to work the phones during the pledge drives in the spring, & I have them on those tapes, visible in the background during the breaks).
I see DVDs of classic series episodes in places like big bookstores that carry audio & video also, and in big video store chains. They're pricey, though.

Uhhhh... here in america with my 900 channels we only get one with BBC anything: BBC America (BBCA)

On top of that, the only place we have a VHS is at my mom's: My dad is weird about looking really hi tech and rich, so he throws out that stuff.

I actually live in California, near Mexico (not that the swap meets have been any help)

Rant away! O_O >_> And gimme links, there's nothing wrong with providing links. (There's a whole site on the net that provides stuff 'legally' with this in mind)

Basically I just go on youtube type in a random episode name and there you go. I recently watched every Syvester McCoy episode. Now all I need to watch is the Happiness Patrol. If you are on youtube look out for my comments i'm rogue0element on there.

When I was a kid, Mom got tapes and a laserdisc at stores. Then we moved. Since then, we've gotten DVD's at Borders (and maybe another place...don't know where Mom got the Key to Time series). Other than that (meaning most of what I'm able to see due to the limits of Borders and the cost) I have to go on YouTube. Mom says that she used to (a while back while in the Army) see some Doctor Who episodes on (I think) PBS.

My advice - look around. Video rentals, stores, online, etc. See if old episodes air on any TV stations you get.

These users I've found pretty good for catching Classic Who episodes:

ange728

angelikesmccoy

isweedan

Zceepy

TheHappinessPatrol

ericbushee

They've all got a different selection of episodes from different Doctors. It's a bit pick-and-mix.
