The ultimate Lunar Discussion

I personally love this game! It was my first and favorite RPG, and I am opening up a discussion in honor of this wonderful game.

Ask me anything, and I'll answer it. I've played both LUNAR: The Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue complete, beaten them and found all thier secrets.

On to my review of this game, in lunar one, you play as the protagonist, an adventurous youth named Alex. He dreams to raveling the world and having fantastic adeventures like his idol Dyne, but, having been born in Burg, knows that such adventure would mean leaving behind his home.

In the begining of the game, it starts off easy to follow and you get a sence that the world where Alex and his childhood friend, Luna, live in is generally a peaceful world with the earth looming in the sky. As the story progesses the mood gets heavier as Alex's trails get harder and a looming threat of a dark emporor arises. Like most RPGs it starts off calm, with the world at peace, than pulls the characters into a fantastic adventure to, obviosly, save the world. The story is unpredictable, which I love, and it does keep you guessing till the end.

As for the gameplay, it's really simple after a few moments of practice. Navigateing the characters is simple, shopping and taking care of your characters in the menu comes easily to the mind.

Battleing is another story. RPGs I think are about being patient. What I like about his game is that there are no random battles, enemies do not appear out of nowhere like in the final fantasy games. As you progress through dungeons, you see your enemies lurking around and it is possible to run away from them. If you touch an enemy, you will be taken to the battle screen.

Battleing in this game is all about strategy. Unlike the active time battles in Final Fantasy, you give your characters specific commands and wait out the fight scene as they fullfill those comands while your enemies fight back. In boss battles, it really comes down to instinct and strategy, but the fact that you have no control over what your will happen to your characters after you give them orders really keeps in on the edge and makes the figting really fun. I do find this battle system a bit tedios sometimes, it does get annoying when you keep running into enemies and have to fight over and over.

Music is beautiful! From the beggining sequence you have this overhelmingly catchy tune, and whether your in dungeons or towns, you do have that feeling of something lurking in the corner, or that feeling of something exciting happening in the streets. I highly recommend downloading the opening song and the boat song from this game!

graphic aren't that interesting if you're really into the kind of femoninal designs like in FInal Fantasy 12. But if you consider that this was during the time of playstation one, where you expected blocky characters, the graphics are quite a breakthough. the scenery is really nice and the cutscenes are just amazing. It's feels like you're playing through an anime because of the animeted sequences.

All in all I'd give this game a 9.7.

so what are your opinions? How did you find the gameplay, or what did you love about the story. Or what was your favorite Bromide?

a review and discussion for Lunar Two: Eternal Blue will be up soon.

I own both the games! I absolutely love both of them. Lunar Silver Star story is defiantly the better of the two, but both great.

IT was for the play-station. This game had gone unseen because of the Final Fantasy Series. There's also a version of the first game on the gameboy adcanced. There is another one on the DS as well.

OMG! I've been waiting for this moment forever. I Have both games and have beaten them numerous times. I disagree for one thing: This game was pretty predictable to me, but then again most of the RPGs that I've played were.

Thats why I'm going to be a video game designer, so I can make a game that doesn't spoon-feed you the story as easy as the other ones do.

Ahhh, good times. I remember when I was a kid playing the originals on the Sega CD... gosh, Borgan used to be DESTRUCTIVE!!! Was sad that they watered him down in the remake. Also not sure why the changed Leo's age from 35 to 25... *shrug*

My friend tried something really cheap with the remake of Silver Star Story. Since Ghaleon's final level is determined by Alex's, he made Alex run from EVERY SINGLE battle in the game except boss battles, so Ghaleon's level would be pathetic. I don't know how the heck he managed, since early in the game, Alex is the only person in the party who can fight worth a darn...

I just thought the games were charming. Loved the characters (the cast from Eternal Blue moreso than Silver Star Story, but they were good too), loved the plot, LOVED the goodies that came with them. Boxing Ghaleon anyone?

A friend of mine followed the same stratedgy of making Alex really weak. I on the other hand, trained him really well, I wanted to beat Ghaleon at his hardest and I ended up fighting him and beating him at level seventy.

Oh, those were two awesome RPG's from the nineties- I played the PS1 versions (Lunar 2 was my favorite- White Knight Leo!). I got excited when they announced Lunar: Dragon Song, but that game was horrific. I mean, it had no characters like Nall or Ruby, and the rest of it was just bleh-uninteresting. They've been talking about another Lunar game, I hope if it comes out that it's like the old ones and sticks with the old story.
