I'm curious to find out what people's opinions are on predatory trading (trades that take advantage of one of the involved parties).

At the last regional I attended one of the players was trading a stack of commons, a couple uncommons and a Bad Mojo Mask to a newbie for the Leeroy Jenkins he just pulled. I was also trading with the newbie and was in a position to say something, but I didn't. In fact, I was kind of jealous and even congratulated the guy that got the Leeroy afterwards.

I've also committed my share of predatory trades, getting Leeroy, Varanis Bitterstar, Nimassus the Implacable, and a large quantity of powerful rares at far below reasonable market value. I didn't lie to anyone, I just didn't inform them of the value for the cards in comparison to one another. I've already been forced to admit that I'm a horrendous person for other reasons, so if I get condemned for this, its just water under the bridge.

What are your opinions?

I think that as long as the perons that were traded to were happy then my consciense would be clear.

Well, this one's two cents are just simple. If the trade works out to the benefit of both traders, then it's a good trade. I for one tend to trade high in the favor of my partner, esp. if what they want is something I don't need, and what they offer is something I desire.

I keep this more or less mindset in all the trading I do, regardless of genre, it tends to mean I have a lot of my chosen faction/class/whatever and besides, it makes me happy lol

yeah, on the rare occasions i get to trade, i try to weigh the options thouroughly, which tends to get on the others nerves i think. im horrible at making decisions. but if the cards are about equal in value (either monitarily or personally) and both sides are happy with it, then by all means. but i also think that not informing someone of the value of their card is a way of lying

i once traded 6 rares (magic) for a whole Sliver deck. someone thought i got fleeced, but the guy was my friend and i liked the Slivers, so i was fine with it

If it is as you say and that guy was a newbie then I believe that a stack of commons, some uncommons and bad mojo mask will probably be more useful to him than one good card, since it gives him more options for deckbuilding as well as options to other classes(unless all the cards are restricted to one class, which I doubt) and also allows him to learn about more card effects that could be benefitial to him playstyle rather than having one good card(he might not even be alliance). However in terms of value leeroy jenkins, which is really pricy, could have been sold by that noob to buy even more cards than what the other guy gave him. But if he's a noob he probably wouldn't know what to buy anyway. So in the end i say it was not only a fair trade but very benifitial to both parties involved. Fin.
