i told my friend about how roy is basically a noob character cuz he's so slow and because he has power that only noobs really need and he said that marth should be the noob character cuz he's fast and doesnt have a lot of power, i even told him about how the tier system even shows that roy is basically a noob character, he called me a liar and said how since he a lot of access with nintendo he can see the REAL tier thing and stuff, will someone please try to set him straight? even if it means PMing him, his gaia name is YOAD.

Well, there isn't really such a thing as a "noob character." Marth is potentially better, but it depends on the player.

i completely agree. i've seen people who could kick everyones butt with roy(at least everyone he's played.as not to overexagerate). same with marth. and people have different styles thus are better with different characters.

From what I've heard... And this is what I've heard (I don't play as Marth. I play the occasional Roy), that Marth hasmore power per swing than Roy. Idealy, I can see that statement being true (that effin tip!). But, I really can't comment on this. I always thought Roy was stronger. Hail to teh ph143. >_>

the power in each sword is located in differenct places. for marth the power is in the top. for roy the power is closer to the middle of the sword. roy may have more power but in the time it takes roy to swing once marth has already swing and started again that spead and range that marth's sword has makes marth a better person to use. their counters are also different, marth's does only about 7% while roy's does the attack plus half. so if the attack was a smash doing 30% roy's counter would do 45%, while marth's does 7%. but that does not make roy better than marth because roy's counter last a very very short time compaired to marth's.

no i mean he's a complete noob, all he'll do during the match is stand at one end, wait for the other player to attack then use the counterguard move over and over then knock the player off like a complete cheapass, so the sloution i've found is to just wait for him to come to me or us both run to each other, ill fake him out then pwn his a**, and it gets annoying after a while especially when i do the first one and neither of us moves so i end up getting hit cuz neither of us wanted to move so i moved first and he went cheap a** on me

Solution? Don't play Marth. Play someone like Fox or Falco and spam SHL.

If you insist on playing Marth, fake him out with a dash dance. Fox trot over to him and dash dance away when he tries to attack. Counter with a grab, then F-throw him off the ledge and edgeguard.

This guy knows what he's talking about.

The only way to counter a "counter", is to grab.

Shield grab FTW.

yes but this dude is IN LOVE with edgehogging. another thing he'll do is when i run up to him, he'll jump backwards off the edge then edgehog until i move or until he decides to hit me, which what i try to do when he does that is i try to hit him down but it doesnt work often, cuz he air dodges

simple answer to all of this.

no one character is truly better then another. the tiers just mean whos been the most useful to people in tornament play on an AVERAGE of the players. alot of lower tier characters can still school higher tier players, it's just alittle harder sometimes. the only characters that this is not true for is Mewtwo and Bowser, which you all should know by now. but anyway, an example of this is something that happened to me only three days ago. a friend of mine is a tornament player, and a good one at that. i became his b***h in almost all the fights we had, except for two. one where i was Mario and he was Bowser (guess how that turned out mrgreen ) and one where i was Roy and he was Marth. i'm definetly not a tornament player, but i still kicked a** in that battle.

Results of that battle: 5 stock
Roy-3 at 126%, Marth-duh, 0

Yes, there are. It's the reason tiers exist at all, buddy. However, the game is balanced enough so that characters can still compete against each other, just that one character will have an easier time than the other.

hate to say it but he's right. some characters are better than others. but also, depending on the player, the worst character can beat anyone.

No, it isn't. You said that no character is better than another, but I'm arguing otherwise.
