Hi all. I'm Jon.

I'm a 23 year old senior in Astronomy at the University of Kansas (KU). I've been working on research involving the open cluster NGC 7142 and am hoping to get involved with the ULTRA telescope as soon as it's completed. I also teach an introductory astronomy lab and have done so for 2 years now.

I am very involved in public education in astronomy and occasionally will take my personal telescope (an 8" Celestron SCT) out on campus and show people various objects. I also maintain a blog, The Angry Astronomer, that frequently deals with Astronomy, although it also deals with other interests of mine, namely religion, politics, and science in general.

Aside from the science thing, I enjoy cooking and am damn good at it. I also do midieval recreation through the SCA, and participate in armored, full contact swordfighting.

I'm both in Lawrence and St Louis, so I seem to flank you pretty well.

I've heard of it, but I can't say I know it off the top of my head.

I have to admit, Astronomy=win just through the sheer awe some of the things about it can inspire.

I especially liked the COSMOS pictures. 6 Billion light years deep.

Midevil recreation!
SWordfighting!

I'd love to see something like that.

You sound like a cool person to hang out with. I'm going to the Renaisance Fair here to watch the armored combat. As for the sky, I'm a closet romantic so I think there's nothing more beautiful or misterious. There's definetly more to space than it meets the eye.

I went to the Ren Fest In KC this year it was a blast. My 3 year old was talking about princesses and pirates for nearly a month afterwards (she still plays dress up of both).
