Im looking at the banned card list on http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=judge/resources/sfrstandard and it says that Ancient Den, Seat of the Synod, Vault of Whispers, Tree of Tales, Great Furnace, and Darksteel Citadel are all banned!? They're lands, so you can only play one per turn, so I don't understand what's up with this? Does someone know what's going on?

2 - Arcbound Ravager
Artifact Creature 0/0
Sacrifice an artifact: Put a +1/+1 counter on Arcbound Ravager. Modular 1 (This comes into play with a +1/+1 counter on it. When it's put into a graveyard, you may put its +1/+1 counters on target artifact creature.)

Yeah, it's good... especially with Ornithopter (0/2 for 0!!!!), Skeleton Shard (B, TAP: Return an artifact creature card from your graveyard to your hand), and Dross Scorpion (3/1 for 4, henever Dross Scorpion or another artifact creature is put into a graveyard from play, you may untap target artifact.) yeah... that's awesome. So basically, it's "B: put a +1/+1 counter on Arcbound Ravager"... AND IT HAS FREAKING MODULAR! So then, you get it to die, put ALL it's +1/+1 counters on Etched Oracle, use it's ability like 40 times, bring out Graceful Adept, and next turn... summon Soramaro, First to Dream (Flying Soramaro, First to Dream's power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in your hand. 4, Return a land you control to its owner's hand: Draw a card.) Bam, i just made that up now....

Whoa...let's try that again...

Raffinity. One of the most abusive decks ever built, save Tolarian Academy.

The deck had a 75% chance of winning on turn 4, and even better chance on turn 5. The lands were the main part of the deck, allowing you to cast frogmites and whatnot for practically nothing, use Thoughtcast for U instead of 4U, etc etc.

The engine of the deck, origionally, was Deciple of the Vault/Genesis Chamber/Skullclamp..allowing you to puke out a ton of artifacts and cycle through your deck at mach speed, and taking down your opponent's life total. This, coupled with Arcbound Ravager, enabled you to have huge creatures, or just eat all the artifacts to kill your opponent. Half of the time, you never even had to attack with any of your creatures to win, you just Decipled them to death.

Now, after the banning of Skullclamp, the deck was quasi-neutered, but was still extremely powerful. Cranial Plating replaced Skullclamp, and Thirst for Knowledge replaced Genesis Chamber. The deck, whilst still extremely strong, wasn't as combo-oriented, and Tooth decks began to creep into the Raffinity dominated top 8's. During this time, there was, at least, 4 Raffinity builds in the top 8 at every major event.

That is why the lands, Ravager, Skullclamp, and Deciple were all banned. Skullclamp went on to kick serious a** in extended and Online Tribal formats, but was quickly banned there as well, due to it's broken-as-hell factor, and is only legal in Type 1 (where it kinda sucks).

The abbreviated story of Raffinity, and how it made almost 2 years of magic boring as hell to play.

Agh...... Ravager Affinity is seriously broken as heck. I don't know how R&D slipped these cards through into booster packs. Every time someone plays a deck with Ravager or Disciples in them, I know I'm not gunna last past turn 5 or 6. To put it another way, Ravager Affinity = #1 reason to click the concede button on MTG:O

I'm glad Mirrodin block's gunna roll out of Standard soon. The whole block not only ruined the uniqueness of artifacts, but totally ruined the whole tournament scene for me. Goodbye Mirrodin block, hello Ravnica.......

Wait, Ravnica has the same first three letters as Ravager. ARGH! >_<

i loved mirrodin. but i only liked the equipment. my love for artifacts from mirrodin ended there. their were too many broken ways to abuse the artifacts. affinity something monstrous into play early!? give a creature -X(make it 50..tokens)/-X(50). whats fair with that? even the land was broken. artifact lands that count as artifacts and don't come into play tapped!? jeez! frogmite central by turn three. lets see. tunr one artifact land. and one ornithopter. next turn, arifact land. and now you can play your frogmites for 1!? the artifacts became way to broken for me....but i do still love the equipment. i really love how they work

It was guilty by association really. It wasn't played anywhere near as heavy as most of the others.
