Sometimes Willie seems like one of the not so perfect janitors but still cares for the kids. But remeber in the episode when he caught on fire but the parents didn't care? He took it out on their children and killed them in their dreams just like Freedy Kruger from the nightmare of Elm Street. So this leaves me and you with a question of is Willie the janitor bad or good?

...I honestly don't know. Sometimes he's known to save the kids, and sometimes he's known to harm them.
I guess Willie is just one of those guys who could be portrayed as both a villian and a hero... maybe Matt Groening intended it to be that way?

I guess Willie is just one of those guys who could be portrayed as both a villian and a hero... maybe Matt Groening intended it to be that way? You mean anti-hero? (yes that's what there called) I can see that. But He's more of the janitor in public, hitman/mercenary in the underground. I refer to his constant offers to kill people and make it look like suicide, and when he saves the simpsons from the mespotianian cult. (Mainly homer).

I think the writers make him evil or good depending on the story.

I think Willie is just a sour misunderstood foreign guy who likes to be left alone.

True, but on the episode where Lisa is a tutor for the hill billy kids, principal Skinner tells Willy to go get the kids, and Willy says "I'll bring them beack dead or alive!" and principal skinner says "not dead." and willy sighs. So it is kinda hard to tell with good ol' willy.

Like all human beings, Willie is both good and bad. Remember when Lisa taught him to be refined? Mrs. Krabapple asks him out and he says "I would be pleased to dine with you on the eleventh" (or something) then writes in his schedule, "boink s**t". Just like a regular guy!

Willie is a decent being but is also an overly agressive European because of his upbringing, while he may seem slovenly and angry, he does care about others examples being how he helped dig bart out of the well, along with certain instances of his harsh shell being broken such as Ralph's preformance as George Washington when Willie said "I did'na cry when they hung my father for stealin a pig, but I'll cry now"
And though he is obviously poor and lives a simple existence, he is happy with his life, such as when Lisa brought him into polite society but he was miserable and longed for his simple shack. He is an angry simple man, but a decent human being who is content with his life. I think he's a great guy.

I think as the episodes throughout the years have gone on that Willy has become more.. well not agressive but 'evil' and the writers have changed him this way, because we must admit.. its a hell of alot funnier!

tough call willy's a bit o both but he can be a wee more good than evil. truth be told he's saved bart a few times and helped the kids get around. but other than that he is sorta do for that haggas princepal skinner the wee princepal who gets told off by Schalners haha but honestly willy's more good than evil.

Willy, is a red head. He is also Scottish. We have a tendency to be a little from column A and a little from column B. Personally I'm a good guy, but I have a tendency to be evil at times. I think most of the time that Willy offers to kill some one he is joking around. I do it too. It's part of our nature.
Also, my favorite quote is, "Lunch lady Doris, Do ye have enee greese?" ... "Then greease me up woman."

Groundskeeper Willie is one of those great characters that can be both good and bad. His "evil" persona seems to be more of an "angry scot" persona, which i think makes it funnier to be honest. But anyone who tries to save the wee turtles from a burning school is ok in my book smile
