This is the thread where you can post some quick questions for some quick answers.
You can discuss anything that is basically a single question:

Example:
Are the polar bears going extinct?
What is a Key Stone Species?

And someone will hopefully have an answer for you or better, several people will have an answer for you.

You can also use this thread to talk about something that you haven't
quite gathered enough information on to make into a discussion
- but would like to.
You can use this thread to help you gather your thoughts better.

Need help with HW? This is the place to ask about it.
I know that I will do my best to help you out.
((note: this can also be a place for spam...the only thread in
the science forum that will allow spam so you feel like bumping?
Do it in this thread))

A key Stone Species play critical ecological roles in helping sustain an ecological community.

Have you thanked a dung beetle today?
Perhaps you should: These keystone species
rapidly remove, bury, and recycle dung as a food
source for their newly hatched larvae. These beetles
also churn and aerate the soil, making it more suitable
for plant life. Without them, in many places we would
be up to our eyeballs in animal wastes and many
plants would be starved for nutrients.

Yes,

The area near the surface of the earth can be divided up into four inter-connected "geo-spheres:" the lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere.

Atmosphere is furthur divided into 5 more spheres: Troposphere,
Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere

How can I asses the activation of the AP-1 complex? By doing Western Blot for P-JNK?

* I actually do need help with that!

In English please? whee

*ponders*

What exactly is that?
PostPosted: Wed Apr 18, 2007 5:37 pm

sorry 'bout that.

hmmm. AP-1 is a complex that is activated during DNA transcription. It helps fold the DNA the right way. I'm thinking that I might need to verify if it is activated. When the cell gets a stimulus, a cascade of signals triggers AP-1 activation if the stimulus was the correct one. One of many many the molecules in the signaling pathway for that activation is JNK.

I just need to know if the best way to detect AP-1 activation would be JNK phosphorylation. But, i'm not sure if this is the best way to go...
