It was just another day, really. Nothing was special about it... as always, the air was hot and sticky, and flies clung to Chachili's pelt in a swarming, writhing blanket of blackness.

But still, she felt so incredibly thrilled. She had her mind on only one thing, and that was her daughter, and the exciting news to come.

"Thankyou," she whispered, to nobody in particular. Oh, how special this day was. Even if the weather conditions were all the same, her heart was practically leaping about like a drunkened desert hare.

Mkimya licked Kucha's head and shooed flies away from him. She beamed proudly at her son. He was so beautiful and resembled her greatly.

He was laying next to his mother in the high grass. He heard his mother call someone else. "Mum, come look at him," Mkimya called over to her overly excited mother.

Chachili's heart almost skipped a beat. She knew the day would come, she did, but never had she thought that it would come so soon!
Quickly, she whirled around, and her mouth dropped open as she saw the child - a boy, young, yet strong. Although she had known about her daughter's pregnancy for a long time, she couldn't help but feel surprised.

Filled with emotion, the stubborn old klipspringer was lost for words. It was the first time in a long while that she'd felt so happy, and so she became slightly tearful, although she held the tears back, the stubborn old granny she was.

"Oh, he's absolutely beautiful," she gasped, bounding over to her daughter's side and staring down at him fondly, "As handsome as they come. I can't believe it, Mkimya. I can't."

She hoped that she wasn't scaring the poor thing with all her staring, but she couldn't take her eyes off him. She was proud, damn proud of her girl.

"I guess this mean's I'm getting older," she chuckled, and then bent down to the child's eye level, "What's his name, Mkimya? Has he learnt to speak yet?"

Chachili had, prior to the birth, given her daughter some time to herself and spent time with Pura, instead. It had been a few weeks since Mkimya and Chachili had last shared tongues, so she was eager to catch up with all the news.

"Oh he can talk, he's just shy," Mkimya said nuzzling her son on the head softly. She looked up to her mother. "His name is Kucha," She told her mother.

Kucha blinked at his grandmother with dark eyes. He could talk. He didn't want to, to say the least. The dark boy pressed furnther against his mother's side and away from the stranger. And She was staring at him.

"Just shy?" a little bit of Chachili's fighting spirit returned, and she got back up from her crouch, jumping up straight, "Why, he won't be shy when I get through with 'im. I'll teach him to box, teach him to stand up for himself, teach him to be a klipspringer!"

She grinned, and patted her daughter's shoulder with a hoof.

"Of course, you'll do most of the Mothering, but let me tell you, I'm gonna' spoil the boy absolutely rotten."

Then, she dropped back down to Kucha's level, and resumed eye-contact with him. He seemed uncomfortable.

"You do know who I am, don't you, Kucha?" Chachili asked with a chuckle, feeling a rush of energy pulse through her as she spoke her new grandson's name, "I'm Family, believe it or not. From your Mother's side, the best side, of course. Your Grandmother."

And she proudly puffed out her chestfur.

Kucha still didn't speak to the scary grey klipspringer. He was still pressed against his mother's side to get farther away form Chachili.

Mkimya laughed a little bit. "Kucha, Why don't you sayanything to your grandmother? I'm sure you'll like her," Mkimya said to her fawn, smiling at the shyness of him. Maybe he'd grow out of it?

However, the small fawn just looked up at his mother.

"Shy, eh?" Chachili leaned down, and touched the youngster gently on the nose with her muzzle, "You must have gotten that shy temperament from your father's side. But then, I suppose your own mother can get embarassed from time to time, hrrrmm. Well, there's no hurry, not at all! Don't worry, Mkimya, he can speak when he wants to speak... ha, I'd bet he gets his stubborness from me."

Mkimya's ears flicked with a slight motion in the wind. Probably just from the swaying grass. She nuzzled thesmall fawn by her side to encourage his... well, courage.

Kucha's small frame shuddered a little, but he nuzzled his mother back, still shying a bit away from his grandmother. She was a potential threat?

He gave a small sneeze as the grass tickled his small nose. He sniffled and looked up towards his grandmother with wide eyes as if expecting her to do something to him.

His body, however, was still clutched to his mother ribcage. Feeling a small lick on his head, he didn't mind it, but stared doe-eyed at his grandmother, waiting. For what? Mkimya didn't know, but Kucha did.
