This is the thread where Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series is discussed, though I'm cool with both the movie and books. ^_^ You can even discuss the comic they had in the 70s, if you wish. ^^

Last night, I read the Lost Worlds of 2001. Clarke had some hella groovy ideas for the original novel and movie. heart

HAL creeped me out when I was a kid. @_@
What I love most about the 2001 movie were the ship designs, the way they looked like just a logical extension of real 1970's air/space technology. It made the movie feel much more "real" (still does, actually).
It's kinda funny how it's 2007, and we're still so far behind in terms of space travel.

Agreed.
I loved the overall look of both movies, and they really do look realistic. Like ships we really would have were such being made.
I really do wish we really were at the level that the movies suggested.

The begining of 2001 weirded my mom out, I liked the middle of the movie myself.

I first saw that scene before I was 10 or so. My dad had to explain it to me.
