Rengo grinned to himself as he moved through the haunted woods of the Kusini lands. He was smart enough to know that most of the stories about this place were made up (well actually it was wild dogs who'd started the suspicion, but Rengo just assumed). The woods didn't bother him very much, except late during the night. Then they were spooky, but definitly not haunted!

He was nearing the edge of them, where the southlands connected with his homelands. "Hmm..." His tail flicked back and forth calmly. It was a little after dawn and most of the savanna was trying to go to sleep at this hour. He, however, wasn't tired and had slept most of the night through to boot.

These were new lands, lands she had not dared to travel before, and the trees looming over her were unwelcomed shadows. The earth beneath her feet was too mossy, a stark contrast to the desert of the rogue lands. It was too foreign for her to be comfortable, and it made her grateful to the sunlight that was beginning to lighten the sky. It was still dark enough that Baala could barely be able to be seen from another's eyes. Her coat was a pure black, and her bright yellow markings were dulled by dried blood and mud.

But, oh, were those markings frightening. Against her body they seemed to float in the middle of the air. It looked as if a tattoo had been imprinted on her body, but in the dark it was far worse. Her marking twisted itself into the design of a monster with a wide, gaping mouth full of sharp, inverted fangs, like those of a snake. It was small, but scary, and able to frighten off little babies with a great efficiency.

The only question would be if Rengo was old enough not to be frightened by the yellow markings that grew larger and larger as she neared him. He was easier to see in comparison to Baala, but she did not yet lay her eyes upon him. The new land was distracting enough.

Rengo's bright pink eyes floated over the trees, moving carefully from one to the next. That is until his eyes were passing to the next and a flicker of yellow caught his interest. He had to do a double take as his vision only focused on the yellow and not the dark fur surrounding it. "What the.." He breathed out, face screwing up in disbelief as his heart seemed to beat a few thumps too fast each minute.

It took him a moment before he realized he could smell the feline in the air, it wasn't a ghost! It was just a ... another juvenile? "What're ya doin' in these woods?" He called softly, his voice friendly and not harsh like the tone you would think went along with what he was saying.

Her body jumped, startled by the sudden voice that she knew was directed at her. But, oddly it was not harsh or mean, something that she was quite used to by now. Baala expected to be chased away from these lands as soon as she was discovered, but instead this voice seemed slightly curious. There seemed to be no inclination to tell her to move off... and the voice was young, younger then her, even. It gave her a sense of safety, even if it may be false. There could always be other lions accompanying the young male, and they could not be so naive as he. But, she would take her chances this one time.

Baala strode forward, eyes focusing on Rengo's pink mane, because it was quite honestly all she could see clearly, his mane, and then his red eyes. "I am a wanderer, Baala, and I will leave if that is what you want, but I'd rather stay for a little bit." Her voice turned smooth, sweet, and as innocent as she could make it. Baala was not a bad lioness, but she knew how to survive, and seeming defenseless was one of the better strategies that she had discovered.

Baala was her name? Rengo thought about her name a little bit, rather than what she was saying, trying to decide if he liked it or not. He supposed it was like his aunt's name; habu. Or Damu, his uncle. Oh well, it was short but... long at the same time and when he thought about saying it, how to say it, his tongue tickled.

"I don't want anything from most strangers." He said slowly, thoughts coming back to the conversation and the few words he had picked up. He sat slowly, head tilting as he studied her. "Someone with such a fierce look about them... well you sure know how to sweet talk." He was just guessing, though this could turn really bad for him if she was like this all of the time. You know what assuming does...

"Ah, most," she said softly, reminding him of just where he had placed that word. Adding extra words could always change the meaning of a statement, and Baala had picked up on it. Though she still did not know if he wanted something from her or if he wanted nothing at all. He had let out the hint that at times he most probably did ask something from strangers. If he wanted something, she had nothing to offer, except knowledge of the skills she had gained while wandering.

He sat, which was more a comfort to her then anything, because it showed he had no ill intentions. So, she slowly sat down in front of him, her tail curling at her side, a small smile twitching at the corners of her lips. At his next words, surprise flittered across her eyes, and then that smile widened, soft laugh spilling forth in warm, soothing waves. "Oh, yes I do. You have to be both fierce and sweet when you're on your own. How very observant of you." She said this after her laughted had faded away, though her eyes were still alight with mirth, and she did not look nearly as frightening as before.

He just smiled slightly, the corner of his lip pulled up; clearly amused. "Sometimes I like tales from strangers or reasons they've come upon this land... but that isn't much to ask for, is it?" Both of his brows raised playfully.

He just chuckled lightly. "Ah but it is you who has declared you need both of those things to survive on your own... so how do you know it to be true? A completely solid truth?" His tail curled around him slowly. He enjoyed wit.

"No, for one who is intruding upon the land you were most likely born on, it is not too much to ask. Others would take it as such, though, as crossing the line. I would not, but the sad thing is I have not much stories to tell, nor real reason as to why I am here... except that I was pulled here, in a sense. I go where my feet lead me, and they have led me here." If Baala tried her hardest she could probably pull a story or two from her mind, but they were not fantastical tales with happy endings. One was the loss of her mother, and she would not share such a tale with a stranger. The other story would only be finished with her death, a tale about her, about her travels, her thoughts, and her life. These tales would hardly be of any interest to this pink-maned lion.

"You are correct; perhaps it is not a solid truth. But, those two things have kept me alive so far. Is that not proof enough that there is truth behind it? I am the representation of that truth," and she smiled at him then, her eyes lightened with intelligence and passion. It felt good, felt good to be part of the truth. Of course, this was a small and nearly insignificant truth... but to her it meant something. Every small thing, when one was a rogue, meant something.

He nodded every now and then to show her that he was listening. "A true rogue-traveler, then." He said with some fondness in his voice. To go where one's feet led them! It was amazing, that.

He returned her smile fondly though still he was not convinced, though it was a truth and a standing fact as of this moment in the future those truths could change. "So it is not quite a law but an unstable truth, mmm?" He grinned and nodded. "Well live how you want to live and every day you can find happiness." That was his unstable truth.

She watched him carefully, analyzing the tone of his voice as he next spoke. There was the fondness there, and for some reason that concerned her. The life she lead was not glorious by far, and here she was, more then likely planting the idea of living life as a rogue into another's mind. He was young, and probably easily manipulated. She could have no intention of making her life seem like the richest, yet her words could come off as trying to put to Rengo that meaning. She would have to be careful with her words. Baala did not want to be the reason that he left his home, the one place he probably belonged.

"It is the only truth I have." Perhaps she was a little insulted that he considered it unstable, but it did not show in her voice or on her face. He had not lived the life she had, and could not be blamed for his thoughts. "This is not the way I want to live, though, and not every day do I find happiness. That is also a truth. I seek a more permanent residence for myself, some place to grow old and have friends. There are few friends for those who travel constantly."

He blinked and looked a little embaressed because he didn't mean to offend her and she seems a bit offended. He kept quiet mostly and just nodded slowly.

"Well. I apologize... though you should probably look about the friend thing as having many friends if you speak to those who live in the places you travel to." He smiled at this and certainly hoped she'd consider him a friend. "I hope you find what you're looking for then."

"I speak occassionally to those in different lands, but it is not as often as you would think." She was gently trying to deter him from her life-style, trying to show him the less glamorous side of it. Baala did not want him living the life that she did. "Most of the time other lions don't like intruders in their land. It's dangerous to trespass, and rogues do not like talking to other rogues. It ends up in fights, and when you are as small as I am... fights are something you do not want to end up in." Baala knew how to fight, could even fight well, but since mostly all of her opponents were larger then her she constantly lost. It wasn't a glorious life, that was for sure.

"I hope so too, it's not here so I should be on my way once again." She gave him a little nod, and in some way she did consider this little lion to be her friend. They had not fought, and it had even been pleasant conversation that had been held between them. "I thank you for your time. It was nice having someone to talk to. But I must go. My legs are impatient to be moving." She stretched, and giving him a tiny smile she turned away, beginning to walk off and away from the Kusini lands.
