((Anyone can join in and it's just a small masquerade, offered up by Draggonov Corp.))

Soft music played, drifting from an orchestra as they paid attention to their music sheets and producing the wonderful sound. Lights were low and soft, creating a romantic feel, even though it was a simple masquerade held by the Corp. Tables lined the room, beautifully set with little candles and gorgeous china. Silverware graced some people’s hands as they ate. Others were on the dance floor, dancing the night away. Some were wearing their masks, others weren’t.

Near the edge of everything, Skyling sat at her table, trying to maintain a conversation with one of the workers at the corp. Little crystals had been threaded throughout her ebony curls which had been swept up with only a few strays to frame her face. She wore a simple red tango dress with a small design at the bosom and a light flare at the skirt, black heels gracing her feet. At her side was her black sequined mask. She didn’t bother hiding her face. There was no need as she didn’t expect much to happen that evening. Everything seemed to make her tan skin glow.

She appeared as though she were a mystical gypsy when she was really of fae and human bloodlines. Her silver eyes showed off how bored she was, even if the expression on her face showed she was having a wonderful time. A small yawn escaped her lips as she covered it with the back of her hand so she wasn’t being rude.

She’d let Alexander stay at home as he felt a little restless. Now she wished he was there to give her some kind of company. She knew all the men, or nearly every man, either by name or sight…or so she would think as she glanced around the room. Even their dates she could guess at but didn’t feel like wasting the time to do so.

Among the guests at the ball a stranger mingled with the crowd. He didn't belong here. To tell you the truth he didn't even know anyone in the room. He'd managed to sneak himself in and no one ever seemed to question who he was. It was, after all, a masquerade ball. There was no need to remove the mask that kept him hidden.

To tell you the truth Lex was rather bored. Boring people. Boring music. It could use a hint of chaos, but at the risk of being discovered it wouldn't be him causing it. He only came because his friends made a bet on how long he could last before someone realized he didn't have any connections. He'd bet he could last the duration of the ball.

He let out a soft chuckle after a woman had told him something that was meant to be funny. Honestly, Lex thought it was only just funnier than getting your fingers chewed off by a crocodile.

Sky never chose the music. She hated that part so she always hired someone else. Apparently this time, the person had little taste and didn't know what they were doing with the classics. Nothing to even ballroom dance too.

She glanced over at the other tables before excusing herself from her own. She needed fresh air as she felt stuffed in the room. She slipped away to go to the outdoor patio that also led to a large garden, completed with a koi pond somewhere.

She snuck a bit of bread out and was breaking off bits of pieces to feed to the fish.

Okay. This woman was getting boring. Lex needed some air before he lost all will to breath. "Excuse me. I am in need of some air." He said before departing from the conversation. He's lucky he knew his manners, because that woman seemed to have a keen interest in him. She might have even started asking questions.

On his way out Lex picked up a drink. He needed it if he was going to last the night with others like her. He shuddered at the thought when he was outside and glanced back to the numerous amounts of boring people. He shuddered again when he realized he looked like one of them. He was wearing a black suit and white shirt with a tie. He was also wearing a lion-like mask with was beginning to get uncomfortable.

Lex got careless. He removed the mask, his shoes and socks, and his coat. He also loosened his tie and ruffled his hair. It was more his style. Especially the hair. He'd fix himself up before going back inside.

He went for a short walk around the garden, his bare feet moving a lot easier now that they were free of those formal shoes. He suddenly stopped dead still when he noticed a woman in a red dress. He cussed a foul word a lot louder than he'd meant to, which would have been clearly heard by the woman. He slapped his forehead realizing his mistake.

She too wasn't wearing her mask, but she maintained her appearance. Sensitive hearing picked up the curse and at first she seemed to pay little attention to it before she looked up, revealing the unusual silver eyes.

She blinked, having thought she was alone outside yet his rather disheveled appearance was a bit unusual for the event....and made her wonder what he'd been up too. Even if it wasn't her place to know...it still sparked a curiousty.

"And here I thought I was alone....I thought wrong," she whispered to herself in a soft voice that seemed like black velvet. A fae trait...

Lex smiled and bowed his upper half slightly. "Well forgive me for proving you wrong, Miss. I thought I was alone myself. In fact I was actually hoping I was." He said walking over to stand beside her. It was better to talk side by side than a fair distance away. "I hope you don't talk offense with the language I used just then. You gave me a bit of a surprise." He added still with a smile before sculling the rest of the drink in his hands.

"I hope you don't mind my asking, but why are you out here rather than with the others?" He asked spinning the glass in his hand. It was a strange thing to do, but he did it all the same. It seemed to amuse him by the look on his face while he watched the shimmery transparent surface rotate anti-clockwise.

She smiled. It wasn't first time nor would it be the last that someone cursed in her presence.

"The air grows warm inside and when you've been to several of such events, it grows tiredsome. Of course there are just things some can't escape from..." She shrugged mildly.

"May I ask what brings you here?"

Oh whoops. A question! Lex was never one to lie. Unless someone other than himself asked him to every word(Here I refer to the fake laugh earlier) he spoke was truthful. "I needed to get out for a bit. It's incredibly boring in there, and these clothes were just an irritation. I didn't want to let everything down among everyone inside." He explained snapping his head to look at her.

"I feel sorry for you, Miss, or is that Mrs? I feel sorry for you for having to attend events like this. It's all just a big drag if you ask me." He said trying not to offend her or anything. The last line just kind of slipped out. He wasn't used to being careful with his words.

"Miss....I'm not married or even engaged," she said holding her left hand, revealing the naked ring finger. She gave that scene up long ago when she first inherited the corp.

"I don't blame you. Half wish these things could be planned by other people. Glad I can cheat with that." She chuckled, feeling a bit sorry for the poor cordinator who had no help from her except for a decent pay check.

"Cheat? In what way?" Lex asked with a raise eyebrow. His speech was sinking a bit in class and his Australian accent was becoming visible. Something suddenly hit him like a ton of bricks. He was actually interested in what this woman had to say. A strange thing considering all the others were boring. Why was she different?

Someone slapped him on the shoulder and started laughing. "I knew you couldn't last Lexi! The whole ballroom act just isn't your scene!" The man said in a 'told you so, you should have listened' kind of way.
Lex let out a low growl and shot the new guy a glare. "I wasn't bailing! You dumb-a$$ you ruined the whole thing!" He said pulling the mask the other was wearing back and then letting it go to slap him in the face.
He started laughing when his confused friend straightened the accessory on his face with a confused look. "At least I don't have to tidy up anymore. Now get lost before I clobber you!" He said before his friend quite literally bolted.

Lex turned back to Sky with a smile and shook his head. "I'm sorry. He's... a pain... if he's lucky he'll stay out of the way." He apologized now looking completely unsophisticated and dropping all the formal language altogether.

Sky laughed as she watched the two's banter, not bothering to hide it. Here she was, the owner of the corp that was holding the masquerade, and she was outside by someone who was considered less in status, but she never could tell the difference.

"Cheat, as in, I can hire anyone to plan this stuff out for me."
PostPosted: Tue Apr 17, 2007 3:12 am

"Uh huh... Well that's not really cheating, is it? Because you still choose who's to organize it. I'd say it's more along the lines of lazy." Lexi said with a chuckle. "Who ever planned this party sure knows how to put some people to sleep." He added looking back in the direction of the ball as if something incredibly interesting was about to happen.

She blushed sheepishly and looked away.

"That's my fault. I should have double checked everything before saying okay..."

She made a small note to herself to do just that next time.

The young man turned around with a slightly startled look. "Oh... You're... You're the hostess? I had no idea. Thinking on it now though, I should have been able to guess. I'm sorry." He said with a slight frown. "I hope I didn't offend you..." He added with an apologetic look.

She jsut smiled.

"No need. It's nice hearing someone's opinion in a truthful manner. These things bore me as well....In fact I own the corporation that hosts here..."
