soo, i don't think anyone else that's active in this guild lives in Iowa, but i felt the need to share this with you guys. in short, the Iowa senate just passed a bill stating that all sex education taught in Iowa schools must be medically accurate. ZOMG NOWAI!!!11 surprised

the article can be found here.

my mom told me about it so i just Googled "Iowa sex education" and read the first one i found.

well, guys, i guess it's come down to this. in this day and age we now have to pass laws stating that accurate information will be taught in schools. i suppose it's a good thing, but it's still very, very sad.

You mean, we have to tell them the truth? Noooo!!! (I tried to find a vid of the cheesy Darth Vader scream from ep III, but couldn't find one with just the scream).

Seriously though, this is a good thing. We'll all get to laugh in the politicians' faces when the teen pregnancy/std rate drops because the teenagers actually are aware of how to protect themselves.

This quote made me laugh.
Quote:

Senator Nancy Boettger, a Republican from Harlan, expressed strong opposition to some materials currently in use, including explicit instruction in condom use. Boettger says, "I have a close acquaintance who works in the office of one of our large banks and they have seen a large increase in the number of people that are taking out loans to send their kids to private school because they're fed up with some stuff like this."

OR they could be sending their kids to schools that don't preach your ideology bullshit instead of REAL and scientific information.
Maybe the parents' are upset over the continual decline of public education, thanks to Bush co. and his conservative fundies.
Hey hag, what if what ever university/college you attended preached pure bullshit to you? How would you have felt years later when you realised some asshat screwed you over?
Just because you can't take reality doesn't mean you have to bar everyone from it. Take the kid gloves off and live life why don't you.

You mean to tell me that they HAVE to tell the TRUTH now?!?!

... In Iowa.

Nontheless, any victory, no matter how small, is worth celebrating in my eyes. I take it as a sign of positive change.

Call me optimistic.

Anyways, good for Iowa. ^_^

Love YTMND.

And yes, it is a good thing. However, I bet parents will start screaming about promiscuity.

I'm not too concerned about cigarette taxes since I don't smoke, but our taxes are obscenely high. gonk
