It was midday, and the bright sun shone down upon the red mountains. The claybank mare kicked up a last hoof-ful of dust before setting hoof onto a large patch of grass that grew in one of the small oasises. Many such patches with water nearby were scattered across the mountains where they lived, but this specific one was near her intricate cave. She took a few more steps onto the soft grass before lowering her muzzle to pluck a few blades of grass up, then raised her head and chewed them thoughtfully. Today had started out well. There was a small group of bae near the borders, insisting on living there and saying the herd had no right to refuse their claim. She had talked to a few of the tactitions about it, but had yet to find Mavasu to talk with him about the subject. Maybe she would find him soon, but if not, it didn't matter much. She just figured he should have a right to know what was going on military-wise around him, as that was his duty. Maybe he already knew about this group of outsiders? Maybe, maybe not, but either way it would be worth talking to him about. She lowered her head once more to continue grazing.

Dust flew as Mavasu walked to where he thought Savit would be. He was not in the best of moods as he had heard rumor that there was a group of bae near the borders. The bae did not belong there and he was going to do something about it should the rumor be true. How anyone could stand those creatures was beyond him but it pissed him off to know that there could be some nearby. He snorted angrily as the thought of those creatures being around floated around his mind. Though once he came upon Savit's oasis where he caught sight of her he calmed down slightly. The sight of her always calmed him down even just slightly. 'Hello my queen.' he said with a bow of his head once he had come within the outside of the grassy area.

Savit was indeed there, swishing her long, curly tail occasionally while she grazed at the small glade. Her ear flew in the direction of Mavasu, catching the sound of his hooves on the rock, and she raised her head accordingly. Her ears perked up and a smile appeared on her muzzle. "Oh, hello there, Mavasu. I was looking for you earlier. Have you heard of the bae at the borders? They insist on living within our lands and won't listen to reason when asked to leave. Would you please do something about them? If too many of them gather there and insist on staying, they may urge more of other breeds to join them, and possibly become a formidable problem, and we don't want that," she said, shaking her slender head, the smile having disappeared as she spoke of the foreigners. It certainly would be awful if there was a large herd of nequus within their lands. What damage would they do? What if they acquired more notorious intentions than simply living on the herdlands? She didn't want to think of it, yet all situations must be thought of, so that no surprises arose when problems occurred.

Mavasu listened to Savit talk about the bae's that were at the border. He fumed about the fact that there were those lower then dirt creatures near the herds border. 'I will take care of it as soon as possible m'lady.' One could tell by the tone of his voice that he was quite irritated at the thought of the baes and how it was in fact true and not just a rumor. He shook his head slightly to rid his mane of the dust that had gathered as he thought of how to take care of the problem at the border. 'The bae will be gone from our borders within the next few days. If they aren't then drastic measures will be taken to get them to leave.' He gave a nod after he spoke as if to confirm what he said.

The brindled claybank could tell that her speech had irritated the patriarch greatly, as always news of foreigners did. Whether or not he had heard of the herd at the borders still remained to be seen, but it mattered little. She nodded her slender head, her soft brown eyes peering out at him from above her pure white tearmarks. "Thank you, Mavasu, that takes a great deal off my mind. I can always rely on you to organize such things," she said with a nod of her own. She dipped her muzzle to the rich grass beneath her hooves, clipped a few blades off near the base, then raised her head and chewed them thoughtfully. Once finished, she looked over at the patriarch again. "Do you know if that persistant herd has been warned that extreme measures are about to be taken? I know they've been asked to leave before, but have they been warned? It seems only fair to let them know what their fate will be if they don't heed the warnings." Another thought struck her suddenly, and she peered at him curiously. "Have you heard that they're not simply bae? I heard from several of the soldiers who've seen the group that it's mostly bae, but a few of them are aeri and ichsa, as well."

He held his head high after hearing her say that she could rely on him. Mavasu couldn't help but fill with pride knowing that he could be relied upon. While she ate he thought about how to rid the border of those lower then dirt creatures. He would go down to the border with a few soldiers and order them to leave and if they didn't then well they'd have consequences to face. This would also give him the chance to calm down his craving for blood. Blood calmed him down like nothing could. He snapped out of his thinking when he heard that there was more then just bae involved with this group.

'Not just bae? Why would anything want to be around those lowlifes? But no m'lady I have not heard that.' His ears were pinned back as he spoke but relaxed them after a few moments as he tied his temper down a bit. So there were more then just the bae in that group by the borders. Bae he thought were the most lower then low creatures but to have others around them puts those few in the same ranks and they would be dealt with the same as the bae would be dealt will.

The Queen walked over to Mavasu's side and draped an extended wing over his back in a calming manner. "You know as well as I do, Mavasu, that the majority of intruders don't even know they're intruding. They do not mean to penetrate our borders, and are very easily and leniently dealt with," she said with a nod and a gentle smile, but continued in a more solemn tone. "However, only those who purposefully intrude in our lands and threaten these lands and its inhabitants deserve to be swiftly and unmercilessly dealt with. Such are our foreign visitors this afternoon."

Removing her wing from his back, her light-colored hooves carried her to the edge of the cliff and she gazed down at the sheer drop below them, spotting a small group near the base of the mountain, grazing. "I have the utmost confidence in you," she said as she gazed down at the small nequus-shaped specks, "because you have shown your capabilities and proven your worth. You will not fail me, Mavasu, especially in this, a small task. It's neither challenging nor tedious, and I know you have handled far more difficult tasks than this." This she finished with a smile in his direction. "Please go and give them another warning that they must leave by tomorrow, midday, or they will face dire consequences that they may not live to regret."

Mavasu shuddered slightly as Savit placed her wing over him. He kept his composure though as he gave a nod and waited for her to continue speaking. 'I will make sure the intruders will be dealt with m'lady with the utmost of punishments. Perhaps if there are even little ones amongst the group they can be given to the slave trader.' He couldn't help but smirk at the idea. He hated foals and would be glad to have the suffer in slaveship. 'I will go do as m'lady commands.' His voice was stern as he spoke and he gave a bow before turning to leave. 'I hope you have a nice day.' Was the last thing he said before walking off to tend to the intruders.

She readjusted her wings as she watched him go, ears flicking backwards. Such a shame to be bound to him, she found herself pondering, when his only thoughts were so hostile. His heart seemed to be about as big as his eye, maybe smaller, when she thought of how he treated even members of their own herd. Expelling a small sigh, she shook her head and turned around, walking out of the little glade towards her private cavern. She needed time to be alone, to think about things. A conversation with Yi was something she needed to have quite soon. Her head-strong daughter was ready to take over the throne, in her own opinion, but the Queen's opinion differed. She was still much too young and inexperienced. She had never witnessed battles, never had to make life-and-death decisions before. How could she, Savit'Taren, prepare her daughter to face those kinds of experiences? The only way to figure that one out, she decided with a slight nod, would be to consult her advisor, the Illusionist himself. She hadn't seen him in quite some time, anyway. It was high time she paid him a visit. ...later.
