I never quite found interest in Getter Robo from just looking at pictures on the net. For some reason he just didn't seem to have "oomph" for me. MAN, WAS I WRONG!
I just decided to watch Getter Robo in action one day. I had been playing SRW Dai 3 Ji, and Getter has such an important role in it, I was curious. So the first series I tackled was... Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo!
First thing first, the opening sequence: Energetic, enthusiastic, fun, and exciting. Really an awesome intro.
So the art was stylised quite stylishly, and the visual direction was superb. Dialogue and plot wasn't extremely juvenile. And the action sequences were downright heart-pumping. Really, I couldn't help but smile widely, like some little kid with my eyes glued to the screen.
Every day for a few weeks, all I could think about were Getter Rays and a bright red robot making dinosaur monsters explode.
So now I'm looking for more Getter Robo fun, which brought me to watch the first episode of New Getter Robo, which is sombre and one of the bloodiest things I've seen in a couple of years. I wouldn't show it to children.
Within Getter Robo, I've found a musclehead super mecha I can have fun watching. Even the pilots kick a**, I mean, really. Ryoma rocks.
I highly recomend watching Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo. It's short, but it's a must see.
