Why was it like that, anyways? Not like it made any sense. But why was it so funny? The white cub marched around, not far from his den, as mama wouldn't allow that, but she did let them come out and play. He wriggled the sand between his toes, staring at them contemptuosly. Maybe it was just there because it felt like it, or it desired to be stepped on by these lions paws, because they were /better/ than the other lions. Or something.
Of course he'd stepped on sand before. Its just that.. when you're BORED, now thats when you actually think about random things. And maybe the sky was so blue because it was trying to tease them for being red. Maybe it looked red for lbue lions, or it liked blue lions so it immitated them.
"Well guess what! " He squeaked out suddenly, looking up to the sky as if challenging it. "I don't care if you're blue! " He stuck his tongue out, then grinned proudly at how it shut up, sitting on the ground and basking in his glory of leaving the sky speachless.

Ilahe was feeling idle - she'd gone past bored a while ago. She could respect her mother and her father but that didn't mean she had to like sticking close to the den. The sand seemed unchanging away, for a long while...but the young black female knew that there had to be more out there. Had to be. They were superior lions, so there had to be other inferior lions...
The sun was hot as always, the bane of the dark coloured lions in the desert. It sank into her fur and made her too hot after a while, so Ilahle was stuck sulking in the shadows. She watched her brother go out and yell at the sky for being blue. Odd. But it caused her to raise her head and mutter at the sun itself.
"I don't care if you are too yellow and hot." She shook off the sand as she stood up and padded over to her brothers. Ilahle blinked in the light. Bah.
(Eeep, I feel bad about this. o_O; Didn't see the link when you set it up and then forgot about it. Sorry!)

(( I'm a guiolt too xD Didn't see your reply. ))
He heard his sibling, not exactly what she said, but he heard her. Spaki turned, and trotted in her directin, indignant. "Its mocking us! " He snorted, and sat next to her, looking at the sky. Unlike his sister, Spaki wasn't half as bothered wit that sun. He had a white pelt, and that came quite in handy when you lived in the desert. But still, he did feel rather hot on his back.
"We're red. And just to make us mad, its blue. " He growled. "Its.. its the opposite of red! " Well, of course he didn't know the EXACT opposite, but to him red and blue were opposing enough.

"...but I'm black." She pouted, casting a sulky glance at the sun and catching onto his game. "The sun is allies with the sky, all glaring with YELLOW!"
She gave a load growling snarl, the best such a small cub could muster for a roar, up at her 'foe' the sun.

"Well. Yea. But you got red! " He said, lifting his paw to point at his sisters red markings. "Only brother don't have red. " He nodded intelligently, and glared up at the sun aswell. "We can show them sometime. Cause. Red.. and black. Is better. Yea. 'n then they will be red and black for us! " He puffed out his chest, and attempted his best roar, wich was rather funny sound, but nonetheless, he was proud of it, and flicked his tail.
"I dunno whats worse. " He snorted, still keeping his gaze upwards, though squinting if he looked too close to the sun. "The sun being yellow, or the sky being blue. "

"The sky being blue. There's yellow on some of Us -" And by Us, Ilahle meant the Firekin, in her eyes the best pride there ever had been or would be. " - but never any blue. Well, maybe some blue eyes. But yellow is more like the desert and the desert is our land"
She stopped her glaring at the heavens to try to look over her shoulder at the bright red markings there. The red was a sign she was a Firekin for all her black fur and besides...they were like daddy's markings.

"So the sky is worse. " He grinned, flicking his tail. His foe was a more formidable one than his sisters! Ha! But now, he glared at the ground, fiddling with some sand with his paws. "I don't like sand much. " He stuck his tongue out. He wanted to see how the other stepping places were. Where it didn't all stick to your fur and itch!
He lifted a paw, turning it over so she could see it. "It gets stuck between me toes! And its itchy. " He snorted, flexing his toes and trying to get the sand out.

"I like the sand beneath my paws. It's soft and hot." She flexed her claws in and out, stretching her toes as she did so. The sand was warm and pleasant, though if she was too hot from the sun she sometimes didn't like it nearly so much. Too much warmth...the texture was nice though.
"I only hate it when I try to clean my fur...tastes horrid and sticks to my tongue."

"And its scratchy. " He frowned, but had an idea. Maybe.. Without warning, he started to sink his little paws into the sand, as deep as he could, and found out that if he went deep enough, it was rather.. cool. Al lthe sun stayed at the surface!
With this discovery, Spaki sunk in to follow his paws, burrying himself under the sand, and peeking his head out, contently. "Its cool under here! " He grinned, his body made a lump in the sand, and his tail tip and head poked out, along with his paw tips. Unfortunately, it'd warm up quickly.
"Maybe we should look for shade. " He snorted, as the sand seemed to start loosing its cool ness.

Ilahle replicated what her brother had done with all four paws, after staring questioningly as he buried himself. However when he mentioned finding shade, she shook her paws free - it was a much better, less dusty idea than burying themselves in the sand. Besides, she'd been warned against staying out too long if she felt too hot. A black lion is more likely to get heatstroke. Ilahle, a bit young to realise possible death was worse, found the idea of feinting at mere heat embarassing beyond belief.
"We should. There's plenty back at the den, but it could be more fun to explore for new shadows. Maybe, Spaki?"

"Yeah! " Spaki grinned, and wriggled out of the sand, shaking out his fur and getitng free of it-- mostly. He stood, lifting each paw once to wriggle sand out from inbetween them, and flicking his tail. "And later we can ask mum to take us where there's water. " He said, smiling. Water was pretty nice when it was around.
"Since I'm bigger than you, you can stay in my shadow! " He said proudly. He knew his sister was darker than him, the sun was harder on her. And really, when it came to family, Spaki wasn't bullheaded. Though, he wasn't really.. much bigger than her. Maybe an inch. Or.. two. Or something. But still!

Aww, how sweet! Ilahle tilted her head a smiled at Spaki. her brothers could be so nice sometimes. And really, her brothers were her pride and joy, Spaki being no exception. She'd always look out for them and it made her so happy when they looked out for her too. Family was the best thing in the world.
"Thankyou." She wandered over to his shadey side and nuzzled her brothers shoulder affectionately. And briefly! The temperature only seemed to be rising as it grew closer to noon.
"Maybe we can go swimming later! If we go to the big-water again."

"Yeah! " He said, grinning, and beginning to wak in the direction of home, because where there was home shade, there was probably other shade nearby!
"The big-water is very fun. But why doesn't it have much water here? " He snorted. It was kind of unfair-- sure, they were.. firekin. Name said it all. But that didn't mean they couldn't have water, right?!

"Erm, because it's a desert?" Ilahle chuckled. If they had more water, it wouldn't be a desert anymore - but it was a desert so they didn't have much water. To her this child logic solved it all, case closed.
"Besides, I think it makes us stronger and gets rid of the weak Blood being so hot and having so little water."

"Yeah! " He said loudly. "They're all sittin' in their little.. watery places, and we're out here in the sun! And we're still stronger. " He said with a smug tone. They were so much tougher! Though, in truth, he hadn't actually met an outsider yet. But it was a nice thing to say!
"I bet no one comes here cuz they're afraid. " He nodded smartly, swishing his tail over the sand, almost as if petting it for keeping everyone away. "Hey! " he said suddenly. "I see our den. Maybe we sohuld look around for shade now. "
