Players:
Youkochylde - Shalafi RikProwley - Julius, and whoever else roams in.
------------------------------------------------------
Shalafi paced around idly, feet padding along the roof tiles of the Feien Fairy shop. He'd come here after speaking with Corvus, mainly to try and clear his head and get rid of the nagging questions that were racing around. Unfortunately, this only led to more questions, the blind Feien's frown only increasing with each step he took. He had to find out if Julius truly DID summon him like this. Was he just a botched attempt at a summoner?
Sighing, Shalafi closed his eyes, not losing a pace in the slightest. It wasn't like he had to see where he was going, after all. Finally, he stepped off of the roof edge, moving towards the portal in the back that nearly sang to him with its energy. Yeande had told him once that he was insane, the portal was no more making noise than the flowers did when they grew.
But Yeande wasn't the one who could hear a flower bloom in the mornings.
Once through to the other side, Shalafi realised that he perhaps didn't think this through too completely. How was he supposed to find the porch that Yeande spoke of all the time? Moving a little bit away from the portal, he simply cleared his throat, lifting his voice slightly. Yeande had also said that Julius seemed to be able to hear from wherever he was.
"Julius," he called, his voice calm yet lifted enough to be heard. "My name is Shalafi, and I have come to speak to you, if you are able."

There was a shimmer in the air as Julius came out from behind his concealment spell. "Yes, I am able." He looked his usual austere, holy self, but the effect was wasted on Shalafi.

Bowing politely to the ancient, Shalafi smiled then, looking towards the voice. While the feien's presence was lost on the boy, he still held a measure of repsect in his voice, as was befitting someone who was of Julius' rank. "I have to apologize in advance for this question, I'm afraid. But it's something that's been troubling me for a bit now. You see... I was born without sight... and had been told by my bonded and another feien that this may have been caused by them, due to an accident with my bloom. But recently I was told that this wasn't their fault at all... but the fault of the one who summoned me."
His voice held no blame, truly, more just a desire to know the truth. "As the one who summoned me... could you tell me which it was?"

With a sharp intake of air, Julius shot a quick glance towards the main house. No one was in sight and nothing showed up on his magical radar, but still. He quickly collected himself. "Come with me," he said, reaching out to take Shalafi's shoulder.

Nodding softly, Shalafi moved to follow him. "I don't know this area well at all, I'm afraid... if we're going to be flying, would it be possible for me to take your hand?" He knew better than to just assume... especially with an ancient. Particularly with THIS ancient, whom he'd heard Yeande speak of so often.

"Just come," said Julius, gripping Shalafi's shoulders tightly and steering him towards the ground.

Following Julius' lead, Shalafi moved along with him, nerves rising a bit when he realised that he didn't know where the ground WAS here. What if the portal had put him a bit higher or lower than he'd been? Instinctively, he let his arms extend to his sides slightly as a preventative measure for catching his balance when they landed. He trusted Julius enough to get them there in one piece.
He winced faintly at the grip the ancient had on him, half wondering if he shouldn't have taken Yeande up on her offer to BRING him to see Julius at some point. What if the other feien grew angry with him for his questions? He didn't even know to get home from here.

The air went chill around Shalafi as he passed into a shadowed area. "Ground here," came the stern voice of the Ancient as he pressed Shalafi down. The sensation beneath Shalafi's feet was of cold stone.
The Ancient continued, "Who sent you here? No, it had to have been Corvus, of course. Only he could have figured out such a thing as your origins. I suppose the fault lies with me for not properly covering my tracks."

Once he was stable on the ground, Shalafi turned towards Julius' voice, brow furrowing faintly. "He is the one that gave me this information, yes... And I'm glad that he did. My bonded and Yeande have both felt guilty about this ever since I emerged. If nothing else, it will do them good to know that they weren't at fault."
His wings folded against his back then, and he straightened up a bit, trying to at least appear respectful. One thing was nagging at the back of Shalafi's mind, ever since he'd heard that he was just a failed summoner...
"I have to ask this... since I'm aware of the difference between a summoner Feien and others. How long may I expect to live?" He was half dreading the answer, but knew that if he had even less time than had been estimated, he may need to move forward with his other plans sooner than he'd expected.

Julius, knowing that Shalafi was blind, was free to be more physically expressive than usual. He started by removing his blindfold to look at Shalafi directly. "It does depend on the magical skill you are born with, and the type of bond you have with your human, but non-summoners live between three and seven years normally." One of Julius's uncovered eyes twitched with some unknown emotion.

Nodding, the pale eyes gazed directly towards the source of Julius' voice, an almost uncanny stare once he was able to pinpoint location. "That at least keeps things at the timetable I'd been working with until now. If I suddenly discovered that I only had a year to live, then I would need to take actions now that I'd been intending to wait on until I reached adulthood."
Something had changed... the rustle of fabric and the distinct impression that even though things sounded the same, something was different. What had Julius done?
"I do not blame you for this," Shalafi said simply, keeping his voice calm. "Despite the fact that I've been told I should hate you for it. You did your best. I have to wonder, however... if I'm the only one that survived other than the summoner, where did the others come from that were blooms around the same time I was?"

"I'm afraid you would have to ask Corvus about that," said Julius. "I know only well about your creation." He could have said more, but there was a look of extreme dread and fear on the Ancient's face. This conversation was one he would have preferred to avoid if only he had been able. Now that the choice had been taken away, it was all he could do to swallow his fears and deal with it head-on.

"Then tell me about my creation?" Shalafi asked softly, looking up to him in curiosity. "What went wrong, do you know?" He paused then, a faint smile coming to his face. "I apologize if I'm inundating you. I suppose I'm making up for my lackings by gaining what knowledge I can. I would be very interested in knowing why I am this way, other than the 'failed experiment' explanation that I got elsewhere."

For a moment, Julius forgot to breathe, and choked on the air caught in his throat. He squeezed his eyes shut, struggling to inhale, finally gasping like a fish out of water. "That's not--" he started, but was unable to continue.

Waiting patiently, Shalafi simply tilted his head to the side, appearing to watch the elder feien. "I have no way of knowing what to expect later in life if I have no idea what the situation was concerning my youth. One problem has already made itself known in my sight..." He paused then, sighing faintly as he bowed his head forward slightly. "I had been thinking greatly about finding a way to extend my lifespan... even a few years isn't enough time to accomplish all I want to do. If there is a possibility that I am too damaged to achieve this, I'd rather know now than to find out later after it's too late to change anything. It would be a waste of your time."
