lately i haven't been going to my youth group, and my dad is telling me to go. it's not that i hate it, but the lesson they teach there, it's not really deep and i'm not getting anything out of the messages. plus the reason most go there is just to hang with their friends now, it's nothing more than that almost. My dad tells me to go to keep my friends and make new ones. But most of my friends don't go anymore or just don't have time to, and my youth group is basically all from the same school and it's hard to make new friends, cause we all have our own groups basically. Also I just can't stand it anymore, I know i have to keep my relationship with God, and i'm trying to, but should i still keep going if i feel like i'm not getting any closer or learning more about God anymore? Also if i try explaining this to my dad (which i've tried already) he won't really listen to me, so what should i do about that?

Go to youth group. It might not seem like you're getting anything out of it, or getting any closer to God, But there will be times that the lesson will teach something that you didn't know already, AND it'll make your dad happy. I'm a PK, and I've been going to church all my life, Going to youth group, I usually don't get anything out of the lesson either, Because it's always stories I've heard, And lessons that I already knew, and could teach someone else I know them so well. But there are occasions when I get really great stuff out of the message... So yeah, you should go. Mostly because you should obey your dad, though...

i would say talk to your pastor or youth group leader. ask them for help. dont throw your relationship with God away. thats not going to help.

I love all the kids that go there, but some of them (namely the youth pastor's younger brother) are just disrespectful. I would check to see if your church has any bible studies or cell groups that you could join. Usually only adults are in these (unless it's a youth bible study...my church has youth group on Wednesday nights and bible study on Friday nights. Only 3-4 kids go on Fridays, and it's those of us who really want to know God) but I'm sure if you asked and explained your reasoning they'd let you go. If not, read your Bible and pray. God will give you a path.

♥ Not every sunday can be a deep, spiritual experience. Basically, youthgroup is to be with our brothers and sisters within our community to be in Him and get to know each other better. To be a stronger family. It's not always going to change the course of your life, and your pastor isn't always gonna be sprayin' holy water and whatnot. Sometimes things are just a little more toned down. That's how life is.
